      @bigelile07 2 роки тому

      Not according to this....
      Goal Posts Dismantled
      The first known dismantling of the goal posts at Shields-Watkins Field followed the November 1935 Vanderbilt victory over UT (13-7) when the four-inch, iron-pipe goal posts, embedded in concrete, were snapped off by Commodore fans who surged onto the field following the game. On November 8, 1958, when the University of Chattanooga (later, UT at Chattanooga) upset UT, Chattanooga fans tore down the goal posts, which were little more than posts with a bar across. Other assaults on the goal posts have included November 10, 1979, when the goal post at the north end was taken down following the UT victory over Notre Dame; November 22, 1980, when UT broke a four-game losing streak by beating Kentucky 45-14 in the final home game; October 16, 1982, when UT upset Alabama; September 28, 1985, when UT beat Auburn; November 30, 1985, when Vol fans flattened the fence around the field and took down the goal posts after UT beat Vanderbilt to win the SEC title (first since 1969) and go to the Sugar Bowl; September 30, 1989, when UT upset fourth-ranked Auburn; and September 19, 1998, when UT defeated second-ranked Florida in the first overtime game in Tennessee’s history.

    • @oc2108

      I rushed the field in 1998 too. I was 19 years old, and I remember it like it was yesterday. I grew up in East Tennessee, and orange blood runs through my viens. I used a pay phone just outside Neyland to call my Dad, and brag about getting on the field. He passed away in July of 2019 at age 66. I know he was watching last night.

    What in the hell was those cops and the guy in the gray shirt doing. First off if he is a UT employee he should already be fired. Second the cops were putting the university and the city of Knoxville in line for a huge lawsuit. If anyone got hurt during the time the cops were pushing back or the idiot in the gray shirt pushing people down (if a UT employee) could have cost the university and city millions. The rule is simple no one on the field but if they do they are down there in their own will if they get hurt it is not the city nor university at fault. However, if city, university employees step in and someone gets hurts during this stupidity of trying to stop something that wasn’t going to be stopped then yes city and university would be at fault.

    Destroying property is never a good thing. They were fined $10,000. They act like money grows on a tree. Maybe Randy Boyd can afford to wipe his butt with 10 grand, but for the rest of us, it's wasteful. Especially during this economic crisis.

    The reason why universities have security personnel guarding the goal posts is for safety and liability. If there were no security guards present and someone was hurt the school would be liable. There have been some debilitating injuries as a result of goal posts being torn down and crushing people. Many stadiums now have the goal posts that can be immediately lowered to prevent the tearing down and possible crushing of fans. I’m really surprised that Tennessee didn’t have those types of goal posts in place considering they knew the goal posts would be torn down in the event of a win. They actually had additional goal posts made in advance of the game.
