I often come back to this video just to remember what can be extracted from a crunch tone, a lead tone etc. This is the best user guide to this marvelous amp and not only !!
Great Demo. I bought one in black, and I Love-it. Best purchase that I've made in-a-while. I didn't think I could get pristine Fender Princeton-like cleans, and also Van Halen-like rock tones. Sounds killer.
Thanks for this excellent demo...each amp in this category has its own inherently boxy sound...to my ear this is more airy and articulate than either Spark or Katana Air, though it can be a little brittle and metallic. The real differentiator to me is ease of use -- this puts more controls on the box for those of us who do not want to be tethered to a phone. The inclusion of a physical "classic-boutique-modern" switch for each amp sim on the 30w version really magnifies the advantage, as you now have 15 different sounds (20 counting presets) at your fingertips. And if you do use the app it is disarmingly simple and includes cab sims which make a big difference. Finally, big props to Yamaha for keeping the controls on the front edge rather than in back where they are harder to see and use -- a small thing but one of my pet peeves with amps these days.
I just got this amp about 1 month ago. I love it. I haven't delved into the app yet but I will and I will also, try to do some recording to my computer with it. But yeah, the placement and accessibility of the controls sealed the deal for me. I was considering a Blackstar HT5R MKii tube/ ss amp but the controls are way in the back. Plus, I already had been through the Fender Super Champ X2 and the tubes didn't even last a year. The Yamaha has a very tube-like sound and I'm loving it
Excellent - thank you. I have the original THR10 and will be getting the THR30ii soon and your concise well put together video has been very helpful. Cheers - and good job Yamaha too!
Yeah my first amp was the mustang gtx50 and that amp lacked all of the high end of this one so it made my Danelectro sound crummy when I tried it again after my tube amp
This is a "GREAT" video my friend. It shows, exactly, what I wanted to hear; I just ordered this AMP and the Wireless Unit. Thank You for your time and Effort. Job Well Done...
I've had mine for about 2 1/2 years and use it on a regular basis. It's still going strong with no problems at all. I must say that I've had a Positive Grid also for, about, 2 years, and I like it just as much and perhaps a bit more.
I bought both the THR30II W and the THR10II and use the modern high gain model almost exclusively. The THR10II sounds much tighter and better, definitely recommend that one.
Just ordered mine! Been playing the Spark 40 for a while and i thought that was cool til i finally came across this amp and had overlooked it seeing people having them but had no idea😵😵😵
I have had the 5 watt for 8 years with no issues. I top box a PV valve king 100 watt with it. It's like a she lion on a gazelle. Clean channel at about 7 with the THR5 at about 5...oh, the neighbors love it. For real. Most of my neighbors...
It is a great demo...of THR30II firmware/software. Most would buy it for its "in room" response as a guitar amp albeit one with small speakers, not as a recording device from its Line Out into one's DAW. How does it sound in the room through its own speakers as a practice amp?
Thanks for this detailed rundown of the tones. Most reviews just focus on the amp/cab emulation, which is important, but so are the other effects! One question I still have, though... if you turn the "mix" on the chorus all the way up, can you get a 100% wet signal that you can use as a vibrato?
I have a Yamaha THR and is just amazing, I sometimes use it with amplitube and use it only as just a flat speaker, the latency is absolutely 0, I would like to test this Yamaha new amp and see if its worth to replace my gold piece or no.
Why 'obviously' ? One of the few things that made/makes Yamaha stand out was that even their budget gear was very good. I owned a BB404 fretless bass...a well made budget instrument, same for their dtxpress drums, well made & yet wallet friendly.
As an aside, it is a wasted opportunity. I recall the boomboxes from the 1980s, once de riguer on the shoulder of any self-respecting urbanite. Yamaha should have built this into a boombox with a pair of 125mm to 150mm coaxial drivers, 1000W Peak Music POwer, GOSH!!! A 32500mAH LiPo battery to run it for hours on end. Maybe some enterprising Chinese maker should gut this and rehouse it in a boombox and resell it for USD599. Would Guitar Bonedo take the THR30II Line Out and run it into a boombox?
Mine arrived two days ago. The app is useless, whether on Mac or Android. Will.not communicate or sync. I see numerous similar complaints online. How come, Yamaha? Good amp, though.

BUT...it looks nice to have on a table in the living room for example? Its kinda catchy and boutique like. But sound wise, for that money? I recommend a solid sound card (120 bucks) and some good speakers (another 120) and im SOLID for recording and just jamming away. @@downloadflac yes absolutely, but for a guitar amp is ok, for listening music it definitely lacks a lot of low frequencies
