Mumbai to Varanasi Full Journey from Mahanagari Express

- A full journey compilation from India's financial capital to India's cosmic capital! Enjoy a ride aboard the Mahanagari Express, powered initially by a Kalyan WCAM3 and subsequently, by twin Katni WDM3As (this trip was undertaken last year, prior to electrification). Enjoy the breezy non-stop run between Manmad and Jalgaon, cutting across the Marathwada region, and subsequently, the rapid run by the twin Alcos from Bhusawal to Khandwa and subsequently, Itarsi.
The journey entails the crossing of four great rivers of India - the Godavari at Nasik, the Tapi at Bhusaval, the Narmada at Shridham and the Ganga at Varanasi. We also cross the Tawa river after Itarsi and part of the Yawal wildlife sanctuary between Burhanpur and Khandwa.
The key crossings include the Sewagram Express, Goa Express, Sachkhand Express, Mahanagari Express, Howrah Mumbai Mail via Allahabad, Howrah Mumbai Duronto Express, Mangala Lakshadweep Express, Amethi Mumbai Express, Kamakhya LTT Express, Ajmer Hyderabad superfast (twin Kazipet WDM3As), Pushpak Express, Tapti Ganga Express (Itarsi WAM4), Kamayani Express, Gorakhpur LTT Express, Danapur Pune Express (Pune WDM3D), Jabalpur Coimbatore Express, Jabalpur Habibganj Intercity and the Jabalpur New Delhi Express (Jhansi WDM3D). The showstopper was of course the Rajendranagar LTT "Janata" Express which absolutely flew past with twin Itarsi Alcos, belching smoke.

journey compliation is good. But change of electric traction to diesel when there are electric poles all the way upto Itasri was suprising and ridiculous move at Bhusaval jn itself. that too when route from bsvl to itasri jn is electrified.

The electric loco was replaced so early into the journey when I could see the electric poles as far as Jabalpur. Indian railway ought to use electric ones for as long as possible into the journey, they are cheaper and cleaner to run.
