As an owner of two new climbers that I'm trying to train over an arch, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. So informative for a newbie! Thank you.
@@OlgaCarmody Same! Your content (*especially* on climbers) is SOOO helpful! Would love some guidance for new rose-growers like me and Camille who are working with young climbers ( in the first year or two) and how to address fertilizing and winter dieback. Thanks again for your great videos!
Lol, dogs in the background barking...love it. Thank you for sharing helpful advice on the rose care. My 2nd and last David Austin rose came yesterday. For now, 2 are sufficient. God bless and keep you and your family.
@@OlgaCarmody I know they send out per planting zone. However my planting zone is zone 6. So, I don't know why yours is not there. You also have a much more significant order, I would have thought that would prioritize the order as well. I hope yours arrive soon so you are able to begin your planting. God bless.
Love this video, and the clip at the end...real life for sure! Yes, this explains pruning climbing roses wonderfully! And it answers my "why" questions from the past lol. Thank you so much!!
This video is perfect and very informative. One of my band roses is a climber. I will definitely refer back to this video maybe next year when my climber starts to grow lateral shoots. I appreciate all your lovely videos. Thank you so much! 😊
Greeting Olga. I am new to your channel and new to a climbing DA The Generous Gardner & Lady of Shalott. Your videos are so helpful! Thanks for sharing love your channel.
After the super flash freeze that we just had here in west Tennessee, everything I have is mush, and even my climbers are all black. I'm so afraid that Im going to have to start all over again with it coming back from the roots......if it will.......They are saying that nothing had time to gradually go into dormancy before the below zero temps. 😰😰
Oh, my gosh, that is horrible. The only way out of it is to wait and see what will survive. Are your roses own roots? This way they might regrow from the roots...
@@OlgaCarmody I'm pretty sure that they are grafted, but I planted the graft beneath the soil; so hopefully, it will come back. I had done research on which way to plant, and it seemed like some said one way and others the other way, lol. I appreciate your videos. They are very helpful, and I like your style! Thank you.
I just bought a new dawn last summer and i dont see any long main stems which now i find weird. I wonder if that is because its young ? all i see is lots of stems growing along the trellis but no long main stems any ideas? Also thanks for the Easy explanation on how to trim I’ve watched a lot of videos and still didn’t understand but with your video I actually get it now thank you
Olga, thank you for sharing. Where did you find that dark green elastic you used to tie your rose? I have a New Dawn that is about 5 years old. I didn't plant it in the best place either but last year put in an arch for it to climb and I'm looking forward to those roses at the top.
How is New Dawn for you? Mine is coming this year ( I am the only one who didn't receive her roses yet, hm, looks like). I bought that elastic on Etsy, $20 for 200 meters! That kind lady closed her shop already...But you can look around for that type of elastic, it is widely available.
@@OlgaCarmody thank you. Re: New Dawn, she is my healthiest and hardiest rose. First to bloom, last to bloom and when she’s full of buds she’s glorious. I’m just learning the correct way to prune and train, so I look forward to even better results. Not overly fragrant but everything else makes her a garden must for me. I’m in zone 6a, Kansas City, so very cold winters and not much die back. No major issues with pests or black spot either. She gets some black spot in late fall, early winter when leaves turn yellow and fall off. She literally budded and bloomed even after our first and maybe second snows. Beautiful rose hips if allowed to form. I just love her.
I bought the horticulture oil that you suggested so do e spray them before the pruning or after the pruning and it’s hard to find that window of 40 degrees so waiting
Hi Olga! I planted my Generous Gardener last fall. It was 2quart potted rose and it came with the leaves and they still green from last fall (I’m in New Jersey). Should I cut them?
So I have a year old climber whose main canes have some dead @ the ends. Should I just trim those back to the first live bud? Will they still grow longer or does this stop the canes from growing longer? Thanks for all the videos! :)
Just trim those canes to the live tissue. Usually they don't grow any longer. What can happen, one of the side shoots can grow really long. Instead of printing it, you can make it into the extention of the main cane.
I could listen to you for hours. Just trimmed my climbing roses today.

Great video, thank you Olga for such clear tips that make a lot of sense...I really enjoyed the blooper at the end too 👍😊

Thank you ❤
I think we've all made the same mistakes when we first started growing. As the saying goes, as the garden grows so does the gardener. Bonny zone 5b

Yes, your baby rose is young. Give it time and patience.
I’d maybe plant bush roses at the base so you’ll have roses at the bottom too.
Yes, you are right, I planted Parfuma rose at the bottom of one side. Thank you for suggesting it!
Thank you mam❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏💯👍 but have you seen seven leaves patterns on your climbers.??
Yes, I did see seven leaves on my climber.

As long as the weather is above 40 and under 60 I believe and your rose doesn't have leaves, and no rain...Yes, a lot of requirements to meet!
What rambler are you going to plant? I planted malvern hills last year.
I decided to go with Adelaide d'Orleans. Looks like I am the only one who didn't receive any of my roses yet!
Hi Olga! I planted my Generous Gardener last fall. It was 2quart potted rose and it came with the leaves and they still green from last fall (I’m in New Jersey). Should I cut them?
Yes, take them off, your rose doesn’t need them. Plus, all sorts of pests can overwinter on leaves. Throw them in trash.
Did you built your arch? By the way, thank you!! Really enjoy all your 🌹 videos .
Almost, one of my next videos will be how I built it. Stay tuned!
❤️ looking forward to it!
