This exact thing happened to me with the Guardians. Missed the playoffs by two games. Ended up trading for Corbin Burns after he made an extension and got a good International pitcher, made a few minor trades and won the World Series in 2025! With Austin Hedges as the catcher I think our pitching carried us pretty hard. Here's to hoping you get some lucky trades next year!
Waited a year on Casas in my sim in '25 and extended him after a mid year for 6/52m, 18.1 combined WAR, 131 wRC+/135 OPS+ in the 5 years that followed. Decent value!
So excited for this years series, love listening to your thought process. Orioles save is boring this year (irl dynasty inbound letsgooo) and Red Sox are in such a weird spot, lots of ways to approach it.
Feel like Boston (and other teams like the Mariners) are using the old Jerry Reinsdorf model of just making the playoffs to keep the fans engaged without having to spend what it takes to win a championship.
Nice! Love your vids (short for videos). Not going back to check all your “vids” but a Reds sim would be cool. Under thought about historic franchise who is young rn. YEAH
LEMME TALK TO YA: Here's a Reds video I did for OOTP 23: ua-cam.com/video/YZDRjqxDRok/v-deo.html They are definitely in a fun spot, but trading Luis Castillo is major points against me wanting to do a sim with them :)
What the heck is Oakland doing with a 61-40 record and leading the AL West?!?!? . . . can't wait to see how this story ends . . . wow that was some strange stuff. I think Fangraphs gave Oakland a 2% chance to make the playoffs and you found it! The Astros with 75 wins is almost as unlikely as the Dodgers with 84 (did OOTP suspend Ohtani for gambling or something? 🤣) I can only assume both teams had a horrible rash of injuries.
Ran a few sims of the latest patch, ohtani had one save where he hit 54 homers and pitched 2 innings giving up 3 homers? so gonna investigate more into what happened there lol.
Thank you for the video!! very useful. Is there any video that could help with contract extension/ salary arbitration? Played OOTP before but still feel unsure on these
I did some videos on these wayyyy back and tbh I'm not sure how helpful they are. Can you throw a few specific questions about these @ me? I can try to do a video of those questions if that would help.
If you like fun guys, sign Makoto Kamiya (I forget what year). He averaged, per 162 games, 58 HR and 129 RBI for me while also hitting .195 and striking out 301(!!) times. One season he hit 42 HR and 100 RBI with an 83 WRC+. lol He won a gold glove that year and had a negative WAR.
Unless something has changed with range at 3b under the hood, you can get away with a low range dude if his arm is good. But I've seen a lot weird with zone ratings so far this season, beyond just this.
@@PeachesYes Volpe? not on my game, he's 65 range 60 error and double plays is 60. i did explain it wrong though, i played him at 3b, 2b and SS over the season and his total zone rating is -28 in all positions so he's like averaging -9 in each position.
Can I just point out that you signed Rafaela to an 8 year, $49 million dollar deal, and in real life, he signed an 8-year $50 million deal.... I can't believe you were so wildly off in your prediction!!!
It’s a good day when PF Holden chooses your best team to play with
Thanks for watching!!!

Haha, Hedges for life!
Can't wait for your mini-series challenge run of the very difficult team, the Dodgers, on Monday!
wrong, try again
You were thinking of Colson Montgomery
can't remember what this is referring to but thank you :)
I swear everyone tanks in July, it happens to me every playthrough
I had one playthrough where the Sox were around .600 in July, still partly believe that was a bug introduced with the latest update.

wowzers, nice deal!

Thanks for watching! The Sox won't be my main save...the O's? maybe!

haha yes, exactly. why try to win 100 games when you can try to win 85-ish and get into the postseason
Hey Pat - have you ever done a video on team strategy? Or how to analyze your team to know what to lean into for team strategy?
I haven't! TBH, I don't pay them much attention.
I have no idea what they’re doing. I think they’re waiting to see what their prospects will do
Haha yeah...Waiting, not spending money, and hoping to sneak into the postseason with like 84 wins.
Last night, Castellanos was absolutely awful defensively...in fact it's been all season. OOTP nailed it.

Oaklands record when u checked Houstons record 😮
totally normal things happening

Noted powerhouse, the Oakland A's
Refsnyder for Westburg lol ahhh ootp makes so much sense
Haha, instant firing for Elias
Perfect team for your mini series. Print that money Boston who cares about winning anyways it’s only a piece of metal!
hahaha

@@pfholden i am not too sure on timing of extension regarding service time? In mlb
Not sure if this is the best explanation
Thank you!

hahahah this dude is team fun for sure
😁😁😁 I'd totally love to subscribe and Go Sox! The roast is fair 😂
Oops, I forgot to put the link to the newsletter in the description but it's there now!
The plan? Pretty sure the plan for the BoSox is to not finish 20 games back of 4th place.
hahaha roasted
Also your 3B putting up that bad zone rating, i had the same thing happen with Volpe, he ended the season with like -28 zone rating
oof, yeah. something weird with zone ratings is going on
@@pfholden he has 45(40?) range at 3B, that's unplayably bad

@@pfholden iirc sgt mushroom's testing of '24 determined that range had been emphasized at 3B and arm was now a close second
Let's go red sox
DBacks mini series?
I did that in OOTP 23, so mayyyybe but probably not: ua-cam.com/video/aCzN6s_iqGw/v-deo.html

Haha, you know, when he signed his real-life deal I thought it seemed similar to what I had signed him to but forgot to go back and check.
Red Sox just want to make money
Haha, yeah this is the correct answer
The Boston Red Sox have "quiet quit" baseball
haha boom!
The video wouldn't be so terrible if you didn't say 'like' every 3rd word
