I think all the soaps have gone down hill, largely because the kind of world they were originally based on just doesn't exist any more. So they become more and more unrealistic. The kind of world of people living on top of each other, rarely going anywhere and all drinking in the same pub are long gone. The soaps have really struggled to adapt.
Love the chemistry between all the ‘classic’ characters (Angie, Lou, Arthur, Den and Pete) in the pub scene. Most of them gone over the next 12 months.
I think it's interesting that you can see the evolution in style from 85 to 88. I think you'd find it hard to spot a significant difference from 2018 to 2021 though.
These were the grand old days when EastEnders was really great! I don't think it's as good these days generally,but it still does have some good moments,but they are few and far between,when compared to the classic EastEnders. I watch the classic EastEnders every week day on Drama or Drama + 1 and also watch the other in the week or weekend omnibus edition.
Pointless characters now.. and loose ends. Dot well over lived her part, Sonia needs to go all her crimes and never a question asked, she is worse than janine with the stuff she did, the that daft short story of billys dad, the blonde hooker jay allegedly got pregnant , georges dad, … so many un tied ends now. they never tied any thing up. Nugget, pryah.. all pointless and irritating characters

I was born in 91 and started watching when I was 5. So I’ve never seen these early ones .There so much better than the ones on today.
