  • Transcend: A Boogie Frantick Story is a short documentary film that follows the true story of world famous street dancer, Boogie Frantick, in his pursuit of dance as an escape from poverty and gang violence in East Los Angeles, USA. Imprisoned after a drug run gone wrong, Frantick gives insight into how he kept his dance practice alive while incarcerated, hitting the scene harder than ever upon his release, becoming an even more well known and internationally celebrated, touring dancer.

Much love & respect to BF; I was a B-Boy in the 80s that got into gangs & drugs and ended up in prison with a life sentence. After 20 yrs of incarceration, I became a Christian and was released after doing 24 yrs. I came across BF in some videos and have been a fan of his popping ever since. The story made me a fan of the person, not just the dancer. God bless🙏

I can't believe how much went into this documentary. That's amazing how there was so many old video clips for showing what was being told. And that made me tear up seeing Wave-o throw a wave to him in the prison. Thank you to Frantick for sharing your story, for being so inspiring, for upholding creativity and dance, and thank you to Icon for doing this story justice and preserving it. This is dance history.

This was beautiful to watch....frantick's workshop was the first ever I took as a popper back in 2013 in NYC. I never realized he was fresh off a stint, but I do remember how kind he was as a teacher answering my questions I had being a new dancer. I remember some people from his former crew painted a negative picture of him back then, I never believed that shit because I knew from my personal interaction that he was a genuine human being. Glad that he was able to tell his story to the world from his own words, great stuff Icon!

After about a decade of not watching, I had an urge a few weeks ago to watch some 'popping', and I happened to see Frantick and Blondy in a dance off, I was blown away by both of them. I watched it again today and observing Frantick, I noticed he almost looked like an Action figure in stop motion; it was so unreal, like a character in the 'uncanny valley'. Amazing to watch. Then I saw him in another video today, and that walking stroboscopic effect, when I saw that, I was like " nooo waaaay..... Impossible ".
For me, that word only comes out of my mouth when someone's skill level is so up there, it seems beyond human. So, naturally, when I saw this video showing his story, I had no choice but to click. Big hugs to Frantick; guy had serious difficulties in life, but has excelled way beyond the average person. Great to know the man behind the artist.
Also, I was shocked to hear he delved into Elkhart Tolle's The Power Of Now, and meditation etc. What a complex guy.

I have a really close friend named Gerardo we have known each other since preschool but we lost touch in middle school until one day he moved right next door tonme. We started hanging out again. My dad became really really close friends with his dad. Boggie Frantick is Gerardo's dads cousin. My family and I have never met him before but his story has touched my heart and I'm hoping my family and I get to meet him one day. This is Beautiful.
