Many thanks, James. A particularly delicate performance of this favourite from the band's repertoire. I always think of this piece of music (played entirely in the key of E flat) as a 'sandwich'. It starts and finishes with a clear statement of the famous 16-bar melody. But, in between, any number of players are welcome to improvise 12-bar choruses over a standard 12-bar blues chord sequence. In this performance: 00:02 - 00:40 STATEMENT OF THE 16-BAR THEME. 00:41 - 01:39 Craig gently improvises two 12-bar choruses, with pleasant riff support from Shaye and Barnabus during the second of them. 01:40 - 02:08 Barnabus improvises just one 12-bar chorus. 02:09 - 02:38 Molly improvises just one chorus. 02:39 - 03:06 Shaye improvises a pretty and fluent 12-bar chorus. 03:07 - 03:36 Shaye improvises a second 12-bar chorus, but with support from Barnabus and Craig, who play notes from the chords. 03:35 Shaye puts her hand on her head to remind everybody that they are now to re-visit the 16-bar melody. 03:36 - 04:19 STATEMENT OF THE 16-BAR THEME. Incidentally, why is that 16-bar theme so good? I think a contributing factor is the note and chord in the 12th bar (are they G flat played over an E flat diminished chord?) which injects a feeling of melancholy.
Thanks James I always look forward to your videos. I was able to see TS 3 times in the last month, twice in N.O. and at the Kerrville TX. Folklife Festival I never tire of the beautiful music they perform. Again, thanks so much.
Many thanks dearest James. 🎉 What an amazing performance. Everyone is shining. I am happy Tuba Skinny played this masterpiece again. Best wishes to you. Dave.
Un tout grand merci, James🙏 Une magnifique interprétation de ce grand classique; enregistrement et prise de vue toujours parfaits👍 Bon week-end à vous et, comme d'habitude, bonjour depuis la Suisse😀

That opening solo by Craig was just sublime.
I agree.
Really like the different approach Shaye did on her solo
А нам врут что запод на нас хочет напасть, а Вы просто замечательно играете. Спасибо Вам
