Namaskarams. Great to know the PARAMPARA. Blessed to remember all the GREAT MASTERS. Our duty to adhere to our paatantharam. Very nice documentation. Keep up the great work. Regards Ghatam KARTHICK
Sunil anna. Very concise and informative. Palakkadu Shri Mani Iyer was ofcourse heavily influenced by the chenda naadam and he incorporated this in his playing. Palakkadu Shri Raghu was enamoured by Shri Palani Subramania Pillai's naadam and heavily adopted some Palani sollus in his playing. Anyway, it is all naadam whichever bani, school or style it is. A rose by any other name will smell as sweet. Naada tanum anisham Shankaram Namami!! Best wishes.
Very good presentation with solid details. One thing is missed out. (Late) Shri Thanjavur N Rajam Iyer who was also a prominent disciple of Mridangam Maha Vidwan Thanjavur Vaidyanatha Iyer. He learned Mridangam from Vaithannaa along with Palghat Mani Iyer and later TK Murthy also joined this school. Thanjavur N Rajam Iyer was exclusively known for the "Araichaappu" (அரைச்சாப்பு) magically created from his right hand fingers on the "Valanthalai" of Mridangam. He was mentioned as "அரைச்சாப்பு க்கு ஒரு அவதாரம்" (Avatar for Araichaappu), by famous Critic Subbudu Sir and Semmangudi Mama. Today you can enjoy that Clarity Perfect "Araichaappu" from Mastro Umayalapuram Sivaraman Sir. Thanjavur Rajam Iyer made many Decsiples, the prominent Sishyas were (Late) Thanjavur Upendran and T.P.Nagarajan. As per the Promise assured to Legendary Harikatha Vidwan Thiruvaiyaru Annasamy Bhagavathar, Rajam Iyer permanently accompanied only with Harikatha Legend Thanjavur Smt T.R.Kamalamurthy (Disciple of Bhagavathar) till the last concert just few hours before his death. Yes.. After the Sunday Morning Harikatha Concert of Smt Kamalamurthy at the Music Academy, Rajam Iyer had his lunch at his disciple Upendran's house at Mandaveli (only where he used to stay) and relaxing. Suddenly he got massive heart attack and collapsed in few minutes. Till last day of his life he dedicated his life for the Mridangam Art. He was a very good friend of those day's Vidwans, particularly to (Late) Harikatha Jambavan Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar and Great Music Connausier Thanjavur Abraham Pandithar. Thanks for the opportunity to remember here about Sri Rajam Iyer.
Namasthe Sir. Many thanks for the detailed note. Much appreciated. Many things are new to me. This was just a short video. Profile and snaps of Sri. Rajam Iyer Sir along with the tree of disciples of Sri. Thanjavur Vaidyanatha Iyer is covered in my book 'RESOUNDING MRIDANGAM" which was published in 2021. The book is now available worldwide on Amazon. Thanks again.
This is very much informative and very much needed in the present time where new children are coming to this field. They should be informed about the traditional values of this great art.

Excellent explanation sir. Pranams. i am just a beginner learner in Mridangam. can you post a video by playing both Thanjavur Bani and Pudukottai Bani from a learners perspective to see what is the difference. especially is it the fingering, posture, playing, notations etc., i am keen to know that. also, can a person learn both these Bani's together ? will that make any harm for my learning or understanding ?
Very happy to see this and well presented.
Thank you so much dear Satishji 🙏
