do you want a bright and airy tutorial, too, or what?
Mango Street Want PLEIIIZZZZ
Could you do "artificial light vs natural light and which is best" please
Minimal photo sounds great
Yasss!
Obviously!
"A window is perfect for that because they come with most houses" 😂 I'm so sorry for all of you without a window.
Not a guarantee in NYC or London. lol
1. turn off the lights
2. place the model near the window
3. expose for the highlightes and underexpose a little more
4. shoot wide open to bring attention to the model
5. have the model's face turn in the direction of the light when possible, or bring her to a dark place of the room and have her face the window
6. keep your subject in good light, it's the key
don't do much in post prod, adjust white balance and exposure when necessary
The Squarespace marriage ad is back!!! I was just thinking about how it's been missing it in my life.
This is definitely my jam. I've been enjoying the heck out of your presets too. they're a fantastic starting point for editing.
would love to see vintage photography tutorial
I loved the moody pictures. That's definitely a favorite style of mine and one I need to work on more. And that has to be the best Squarespace promo I've ever seen.
“Surrounded by all our friends.” legit me and my husband when we eloped in May 😭😂
The Model is sooo Prettttyyy! >~<
Good video
Off camera flash can be used to great effect for "moody" portraits too. That way you can recreate the lighting anywhere; window or no window. In fact I would argue that with OCF, you will have much more versatility.
Loved the video, and that was The Best Squarespace ad ever!
Best channel of photography.
Love these dudes. ♥️
I love your moody photos and video. I have a question for you: while working in manual mode for them, did you use spot metering to determine your start exposure?
Love it! How about nighttime photography :)?
Watching your videos makes me recall how superb your portrait game is! Btw love your font choices
This entire video is a mood..
best ad ever
Yessss finally, a video on their iconic ® shooting style 😃🙌🏻
Those vows 😅😅😅😅 loved the video ! Thank you so much !! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great video! Which lense or lenses you have been using in this shoot?
24mm, 35mm, and 85mm 👍
BEST Squarespace PROMO, you made my day :P THANKS
I'm a light-and-airy kinda guy but this was very insightful
What lens(es) did you guys use for this shoot? Great work as always!
Kevin Tablizo sigma 24 1.4
never skipped the squarespace wedding ads
Great guide to moody portraits. Only thing I disagree with is the need for natural light. This is definitely achievable with strobe or small flash as well as natural light.
Liked that Squarespace ad so much better than the last one lol
this is our old ad from last year and it was a tough one to top :)
Helpful video for newbies as myself.
I love this format, very useful and simple. Great job :-)
Love it, exactly what I was looking to learn. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Thank you so much for helping with this video!! I’ve been stuck in a rut trying to figure out the best way to do it!
Thank you Mango Street. Educational as always. .love it!
Always love your videos, I learned a lot.. Keep sharing guys.. 👍
when you're feeling the moody vibes but all your clothes are bright ;_;
Turn them dark in PS
That can still work
that can be really cool tbh
jg. jg. How ?
Hey I wanted to ask you guys why you shot at iso 500 and 800-1000 shutter speed instead of dropping both the iso and shutter speed?
Great Video!!! I’m trying to up my photography game and I really like moody photos. This was such a good tutorial. Thank you.
1:24 wow that looks amazing
this has been one of my favorite videos so far! thank you!
I don't feel I am either airy or moody. I feel my photos are true to life, I adjust contrast, curves but I try to keep my colors true to what I see. I do LOVE both airy and moody photos but every time I try it, I feel it isn't me.
Great video as always. I do have one question to make sure I understood correctly. Are you underexposing one-stop? or are you compensating one stop from the meter reading? Does it make sense what I am asking? Thanks!
No one can beat your sponsorship ad😂😂😂👍👍
I truly love you guys and the inspiration you give me. Thank you so much.
Great tutorial, what lens did you use?
Y'all are talented people including the model as well ❤
0:15 You can't shoot both? One might argue they're no rules in art. As a wedding shooter, I shoot what's available or shots I've discussed with my client and ones that they love. When I shoot for commercial clients, I work with creative directors or head of marketing to capture whatever style they need. I think a majority young photographers need to step outside the box and not be afraid to show a bit of it all instead of thinking they have to achieve one look. Love your videos!
In love with your subject
Awesome video! I really enjoyed it!
I guess that in order to lower the exposure compensation the camera must be in Av. because Manual mode doesn’t let you lower the exposure compensation.
Just watched this, now I'm about to go try it 😎
Yes for moody portraits!
White theme lightroom tutorial pleaseee i hope they see this
I may be in love with the model
Do you use exposure compensation or just choose a faster shutter to let in less light?
we shoot in manual mode, so we normally just select a faster shutter.
What would be the cheapest camera and lens I could get to achieve this look? thanks
Ahahahah lost it when you said surrounded by all our friends 😂
Love that ad read 😂😂😂
Hello! Is it possible to take these kind of shots using a timer?
Yeah! Am feeling that.
Very inspiring!!!
Another great tutorial!
Amazing vid 👌🏼
It'd be nice if you added the focal length you're using guys!! 🖤
Good stuff 👍🏾
This is helpful!!! Also your camera is fire!!!!! I mean awesome.
Is there a difference between adjusting exposure stops on camera or post ? Why not adjust the exposure I need by varying the the shutter Speed?
I need to be in _that_ mood as a photographer as well
What lens were you using.
What focal length were you guys shooting at? 35mm?
where can i found those pictures?
Linux user here, couldn't follow along as I don't have Windows :(
i use arch btw
Super coooool😍🖤
Excuse me as I go take some moody pictures 👌😎
What lenses are you guys using
Nice one guys. Looking forward to practice some for my upcoming insta grid. And yeah love the wedding ending xd
you guys are awesome learned a lot from you thank you
What lens do you use for photo in this video??
Great job on your thumbnail!!!! It's perfect.
Is there a reason you shot at ISO 500 ? Is that the native ISO for this camera ?
I assume that they needed a High ISO because
1) They're underexposing their shots on purpose
2) Have filters on
Of course I'd love this post
I want a room like this really.....
someone pleeaase tell me what that music is, i love it! great video btw, will try it when my battery charger arrives! :)
Where is the link for the pictures... I need a wallpaper 😆😅
Hello there!
Why you left behind Stocksy?
At f1.4 how do you get so much in focus, so close up? I need to stand like 6 feet away with my f1.2 85mm and even then the depth of field is so shallow, I miss some detail because of it. Thanks if you answer this :-)
a wider focal length will have a different depth of field even if the aperture is the same as a tighter focal length.
a video i really needed
Great works🤞😀👍🎬📽️📸
love it!
What vocal length or lens did you used?
i love ur content
Do you guys use flashes at all? I've been practicing the Rembrandt lighting with my flash so I'm just wondering.
mmhmm: ua-cam.com/video/_DvYegArI-c/v-deo.html
Some useful suggestions by Mango Street. Why is 50 mm not your favourite lens for portraits?
check out our "best portrait lens" video we posed a month or so ago - we go into a little more depth there.
@@MangoStreet surely. Thanks very much for your response 😍
LOL, That AD
What lens shot those. I see the other settings but not the focal length
remember Edward Hopper
Can u use iphone 11/11pro for this Moody theme and loveee lovee the square space ads in the end.
use whatever you got, champ!
plot twist: the "squarespace add" was the real wedding vows :) lol
nah, but you can hear the real ones in here: ua-cam.com/video/f-dme5X-q5k/v-deo.html
Any moody Instagram profiles you recommend?
What a world we live in ...
Cool, now I just need a photographer
What does exposing for the highlights mean?
I’ve been taking moody shots this whole time and I never even realised it.
