- Hey Team Carlsbad, hope you had a fantastic weekend. This week’s update is all about building trust with our community and providing excellent service. Organizational excellence is a key part of City Council’s five-year strategic plan, and I’ve got lots of example to share.
Major kudos to our transportation team for engaging our community and being responsive to observations and concerns. Recently, our team met with residents who live in a complex near a major transportation project at Avenida Encinas and Poinsettia Lane. Community members shared two concerns. First, they told the team that the traffic signal leaving their complex isn't staying green long enough, causing delays. Staff looked into the issue and quickly adjusted the timing of the lights. Residents also shared their desire for a dedicated right turn arrow from northbound Avenida Encinas onto Poinsettia. Staff explained that this kind of light is in the plans and shared an update on when it will be installed. Fast forward to today, and both are done! That means traffic is flowing more efficiently and commute times are shorter. Community members thanked the team for listening and for saving them some valuable time out on the roads. Thank you to all staff involved for building that trust with our community.
I want to send a huge thanks to community health nurse Chrissy Gilmore and her team of paramedics and EMTs for recently hosting the community for CPR in the park. More than 50 community members stopped by to learn life-saving skills to recognize cardiac arrest, perform CPR and use an AED. Thank you to all involved for helping our community be more prepared for emergencies.
Speaking of CPR and First Aid, I wanted to remind you of the in-person training session on October 9 at Faraday. You can register on Carlsbad Learn.
Two of our library technicians are also in for some major kudos from the community. Ann Montgomery and Jan Mongoven recently hosted a training session on researching Mexican heritage. After the course, a community sent in a handwritten letter to praise Ann and Jan and said,
“I’ve been to numerous classes offered by a wide variety of organizations, without hesitation, I can attest that this was the BEST EVER, both in content and presentation.”
Way to go!
That’s it from me this week. Thank you for doing all you do and for keeping the community involved. Take care, stay safe and I’ll talk to you again real soon.
