- You asked for it. Here it is. "A Liar's Funeral" by Slipknot. That was...a lot. Don't worry, I'm definitely doing more Slipknot. They're my favorite reactions to do, and I just want to thank you all again for watching and totally changing my opinion of Maggots. :) You all are awesome. This one was a dark one for sure, if you’d like to listen to another song off the new album that isn’t so dark I would recommend red flag, it’s my personal favorite from the album, it’s just a nonstop rollercoaster ride from start to finish, super fun song.
And all these others are NOT a rollercoaster ride??? Whew. Going on the list, thanks! :)
So for this song Corey throws out some very dark and very complex emotions. It’s very understandable for certain people not to understand at first but you need to be through a relationship with absolute trust and have a deep bond and have that all ripped away to fully get the lyrics. I understand Corey a lot because you Ve been through some similar shift in my life. You find someone who finally gets you someone to end all relationships meaning someone who you believe is the one and you dedicate all your secrets to, live through life’s tests together such as the death of a close friend family members etc. you have invested everything you’ve had in this individual and they betray you in the end. Corey is venting his full emotions in n this one to symbolize the same woman who bared all the crosses Corey did when Paul Gray died and go through all of the pain and suffering the band did just to leave Corey out to dry. The go you have felt these emotions then you understand. Slipknot is an outlet for those who have been through trauma, bullying, segregation, hate, etc. it’s a release from the natural world so that those who suffer can have peace, an outlet. It’s simply therapy. When you go to therapy you want to be around others who understand you and feel what you feel. Somehow that heals others. Slipknot is music therapy.
PS: Craig Jones aka Pinhead is all about those background sounds. He’s a master producer and editor who can throw down on some keys. Normally if you hear odd tidbits in the background it’s him. Sid Wilson is more up front and noticeable.
Music is therapy. I absolutely agree with you. At this point, Sid is a mystery. Just when I think I have him figured out, nope it's Pinhead, yet again. One day, I'll figure it out.

8:20 That's still Craig, you'll know when it's Sid. Also, Sid doesn't always appear on every song, but usually the more popular ones will have Sid in the mix.
And as always, Slipknot isn't for everyone. The lyrics are not always my thing either, but I usually listen to them and appreciate their Instrument work, especially Mick Thomson, one of my Idols.
Slipknot grows on you, is all I can say.
Cannot wait for your opinions on 'The Nameless'.
EDIT: I forgot to comment about the backing vocals, it could either be Corey or Clown. Can't really confirm who.

@@MusicCatsandCoffee You'll see that this one is not as heavy as the other songs from this album. I'm a big of of their AHIG album, and this song is pretty similar to that album.

@@MusicCatsandCoffee Home is a beautiful song, moved me to tears a few times if you find it personal to you at all.
This song is my favorite of everything they produced so far in all albums. It felt like the expression of the core anger that can motivate us. The cold anger that snaps into brutality, with other emotions barging in at some time, to finally exhaust itself up even if you cling onto it.

You should check out Child Of Burning Time, it's a softer song by them off of All Hope Is Gone so it may be up your alley. A heavier song I'd reccomend is The Burden off of The Gray Chapter if it isn't already on your list.

Great reaction. This whole album is amazing in my opinion and you should react to every song on it but if you want some calmer songs from Slipknot, I can definitely recommend "Circle" or "Danger - Keep Away" from their third album. For other reactions I would love to see you react to anything by Devin Townsend. He's a Canadian metal god with the greatest voice of all time.

When I first listened to this song I hated it for some reason, but now I absolutely adore it
This is my favorite song off We Are Not Your Kind, followed closely by Solway Firth
I'd love to see Slipknot do music video for this song where the band is walking along a dirt road in a funeral procession carrying a body wrapped in bandages and when they get to the burn the liar part they have the body tied to a stake with wood piled around it and they set it on fire and then basically start playing their instruments kinda like psycho social but even darker.
AOV is my favorite Slipknot song but I've loved them all since I first heard them release Wait And Bleed. What a profound band. Please bring Chris back.
Your face when he first yelled "Liar!" is such a mood. I love it. You don't have to over react to make me really appreciate a song I've heard dozens of times again. :) Still excited for you to get to older tunes especially Goodbye and XiX.

if there are clean vocals, it's Corey. Only sometimes Clown and Chris (Chris was the former member with the long nose), they would do screams in songs, disasterpiece is a good example of them doing vocals. But it's typically Corey that does all vocals, and I'm mostly certain Corey has always written all the lyrics.
That's because he's Corey Freaking Taylor. :)
Not gonna read through 105 comments, but I’d have to say you’re spot on w hurt Corey. This was after a horrible marriage. Some others sing as well. And I’d have to say “I did it all wrong” part is probably learning the hard way, learning from your mistakes.

Hey, thanks for the kind words! If my memory serves me right, Snuff was after a bad relationship as well. I know I stated I heard it after my divorce, but I think that was Corey’s mindset when he wrote it. Oh and their masks reflect their inner self that needs released in order to perform that song, or what they felt when writing that song, etc... it’s not to hide their faces or a stunt. They all claim to “go to a different place” when they put that mask on.
Musically, this song progresses in a slow but painfully heavy atmosphere, almost resembling 2008’s “Snuff.” The song gives the listener the opportunity to go with Corey Taylor in yet another trip to his depression story, reflecting on how society looks at depressed people.
In this song, Corey seems to point his finger at the friends who looked down on him for his depression, calling them “liars” and advising the listener to never trust that type of person. This leaves him hopeless and it makes him feel like the only way to make them happy is by dying. By doing that, he’s “playing his part” that is to say, giving them what they really wanted.

No offense, but I don't believe you. :D I know for a fact I say I'm scared at least once in my "Nameless" reaction that I'll post in a few days. There is never a time I will not be scared. I'm scared of their picture! But somehow, that's part of their appeal. At least for me, it's seeing what's going on behind the scary exterior. And yeah, some of it, SCARY, but there's also some awesomeness too. Deep levels of lyrical and musical awesomeness. :)

Just throwing this in here - if you want to listen to one of the most un-Slipknot songs, but somehow still retaining their DNA in it (a sign of experimenting with their sound done right), you can find it on this album in the form of "Spiders".
It easily became one of my favourites due to just how... unexpected it sounds.
Without spoiling too much, expect some Manson/Nine Inch Nails vibes in some sections.

most of the time the lyrics are written by two or more band members. sometimes its just one though.

Even though this song is about Corey's ex wife, also has a lot to do with their former percussionist Chris Fhen, he wore a mask with a long nose, resembling Pinocchio, thus the "liar" part of the song, also the second voice is from the other percussionist Shawn Crahan the one with the Clown mask, adding to the "attack" against Fehn
None of the lyrics in the album are directed against Chris. The departure happened when the album was basically done, he was just taken out of the mix, that's why there are only Clown screams on the album.
