I love this so much, one of my ultimate goals in learning the harp is to eventually play therapeutically in hospice, hospitals and healing ceremonies. This would be a lovely way to get more comfortable improvising in that setting :) Thank you so much for your videos!
I'm glad! Yes the secret is to know as much as you can, without loosing this wonderful inspiration and freedom....a good combination! You'll definitely get there, just keep learning and enjoying!!! :-D
Excellent presentation on using a pentatonic scale for improv, Chiara! This pentatonic scale was used as a harp glissando by Disney in their opening credits for Tinkerbell flying around the front of the Disney Castle. I had forgotten about it until you displayed it here.
@@chiarapedrazzettiarpatelie6470I had so much fun, I have been practicing with it these past few weeks and even used these methods at a wedding I performed at! Thank you very much for making this video! 💕

Might I recommend Double Harmonic Major as a scale for improvisation? With it's clear center from which the scale emanates, and clear groupings and symmetry, it's almost impossible to sound bad. It makes sense to me that the Mayamalavagowla is taught to students as a foundational raga given its simplicity. And, well, it's got great color.
Wow ❤Chiara questa è pura magia. Quella che stai suonando è una DS bubinga ? Grazie per il video. Menomale che ci sei tu ad aiutare noi principiante. God bless You ❤😊
Oh this is so pretty. Does anyone know how to tune a harp for this without levers? What would the usual CDEFGAB notes look like? I’d love to tune mine manually to try this.
Hello! Greeeeeaaaaat video! I just received a lap harp for my birthday, is there any chance I can play pentatonic scale on a 16 strings harp by changing the tuning 😁? Or no 😬. Thank you for your time
Normal scale : es f g as bes c d es (E flat Major Scale) The 2n mode : f g as bes c d es f (F Dorian Scale) The modified scale : f gis as bes c dis es f. gis = as and dis = es. So, The scale is : f as bes c es f (F Minor Pentatonic Scale). Is my analysis correct?
The "Black Keys Only" mode of the harp :-) Great idea, especially for the glissandi! Alternative: Tune Ab Bb C D up 1 halfstep, then you get a whole tone scale.
@@chiarapedrazzettiarpatelie6470 What...??? :-) Why is it annoying to set 4 levers per octave, which are direct successive to each other? Oh wait, there is even a simpler solution: Let the levers ABCD down and turn EFG up!

Nice! Yes it's used a lot also in audiobooks, the same scale was used in Pocahontas in the Italian version when you had to turn the page :-D
Going to try this tonight! So excited :)

Amazing video!!!
Could you introduce us to more magickal, mystical harp scales please?
Yes I will! You can experiment yourself as well, just moving levers at random and see what's coming up!😁

What a beautiful sound this Harp...😍 What brand and type of harp is this?
Dusty String FH36 walnut

DS Walnut!
Just that I understood correctly, all of the d sharp and g sharps of the whole harp must be up?
yes!
Oh this is so pretty. Does anyone know how to tune a harp for this without levers? What would the usual CDEFGAB notes look like? I’d love to tune mine manually to try this.
You just have to have each string tuned like this; F, G#, Ab, Bb, C, D#, EB 👋

When I tune my harp why does my string in D natural when I raise my lever it reads it E flat
Because the D becomes D sharp and it's the same sound as E flat.
Wow thank you 🙏
I don’t know you but you are awesome 😎 do you do zoom lessons this is my email

Normal scale : es f g as bes c d es (E flat Major Scale)
The 2n mode : f g as bes c d es f (F Dorian Scale)
The modified scale : f gis as bes c dis es f.
gis = as and dis = es. So,
The scale is : f as bes c es f (F Minor Pentatonic Scale).
Is my analysis correct?
It is, well done! Although Bes doesn't really exist, it's H (b natural) or B (already b flat). Confusing, I know!
@@chiarapedrazzettiarpatelie6470 I'm not. By the way, I recommended this scale : es g as b d (no more BES🤭). It sounds like gamêlan music.
@@putunebakulgethuk29 I'll try it!!! Thanks!

Yes black keys of the piano are fun as well!
I love whole tone scale sounding but it's quite annoying to tune extra all this strings! ;-D
