I have driven the amarok to northern Finland for a skiing holidays three years in a row now with my friend. Car full of luggage and and a trailer with a snowmobile and more luggage. 700-1000kms a day has never been a issue. Very good seats and driving position, goes like a train. Also with the diffs locked, no problem climbing a steep and icy hills. This has by far the best quality interior and driving comfort, when compared to other cars in this class. Anyways great review !
It's been more than a year but this is still the best Amarok review and huge thanks for your effort. I was planning to buy a pick-up but cannot decide which one couple of weeks ago. Then I found this video and my choice became Amarok V6 Aventura at the end of the video. It's been ordered in next day and now waiting for delivery. Thanks again Autogefühl!
Probably the best review I have come across! Detailed explanations for every part of the car that matters. 2 days to pick my V6. After watching this I am even more excited! Thanks again for a great review!
excellent in-depth review. this will be a game changer in australia, with respect to the v6. the current gen 4cyl is good, but i think this new version will really show the traditional japanese favourites (toyota landcruiser / hilux, nissan patrol / navara, mazda bt50 etc) of the off roading public perhaps that you dont need to drive a gruff truck-like vehicle in order to do serious off roading. with some modifications, i could picture this as a rock crawler, but one that you dont require a kidney belt to drive, and still looks the part arriving wherever, restaurant, in the office carpark etc.
Great Review, your personal presentation is outstanding, no silly histrionics or irrelevant points or comments, you are wasted doing this stuff, you should be in a high profile Motoring format program, best reviewer of this kind I have seen by far.
An excellent review as always Thomas. In my country Argentina the amarok is very popular only behind the toyota hilux. As in America we like the pickups, midsize ones. Amarok users and fanboys in my country are expecting for this pickup, so i recommend your Channel.
Excellent review, thanks! i'm glad volkswagen decided to upsize the engine! Great decision!! it almost looks like they actually hear our claims (Amarok owner's around the world)!! I can't wait to drive it! Greetings from Paraguay
Volkswagen did a good job with the new styled facelift of the new Amarok!! The new engine is just phenomenal for such a large Pick-Up!! The new powerful engine is a unique feature in this segment!!
Having driven an Amarok for the past 3 years i have always thought although adequate it could do with more torque than the 2.0 could provide. I always thought the 3.0 diesel in my wife Mercedes car would have suited it better without much impact on miles per gallon. So VW have probably addressed the only issue I've had with it! Changing it in August and was thinking about the new Hilux but this might be the answer:)
I don't how use your Amarok but you need to be aware of the following:The V6 engine is significantly heavier and throws an extra 85-100kg over the front suspension. The V6 Amaroks will now tip the scales at 2300kg tare weight compared to around 2000kg for the 4-cyl. I don't believe that the GVM or GCM has been altered very much from the 4-cyl on the V6 Amarok's. This means that real world carrying capacity of this vehicle has now been dramatically reduced! The new 3500kg braked towing capacity has been "engineered" for Marketing Purposes to compete with others in the segment. In the real world if you hitched a 3500kg trailer you can legally put NOTHING ELSE in the truck and barely a driver (just like a Ford Ranger!). I have a 4-cyl Amarok and regularly tow a 2 tonne boat without issue. Don't know, but if you are looking at 3 -3.5 tonne loads then I'd be looking at a different vehicle anyway.
Thank you Thomas, amazing review. I`m still waiting for the review of Ranger, it would be a great point compared with this Amarok and Nissan Navara. The best car review channel for sure
Behind the rear seat is a surprising amount of storage space. We have 2 x full size umbrellas, the tow ball kit bag and snatch straps stored there. On the negative side the huge mirrors are expensive to replace with GPS gear etc in them and they don't retract ... would be nice if they were cheaper or could retract to keep them safer in some off-road and parking situations.
Love to know if you are enjoying it? I am just thinking of getting one to replace my defender as a work truck.. loved the defender but don’t trust Land Rover any more with their offerings
@@danielrapacioli9581 I love it. The acceleration alway brings a smile to my face and is really comfortable for long distance driving and it's got the best drivetrain of all of it's competitors (Mines the Highline with 8 speed Auto with Paddle shifters). I travel 2 hours to and from work and find it no problem at all and recently carried a bulka bag of hard wood with no trouble at all. Take one for a drive and you'll buy one :D
You are always gentle with the cars, and careful. Others, top gear wannabees they launch on these terrains with full power, it's like they want to hurt the car.
As always, very good review from you Thomas. You may wanna mention they used the old sticks by the steering wheel and key, as the one in the golf is different (again as you say, to save costs). Maybe you could do some filming from the outside to see how the wheels are working when going up and downhill. Anyway, thanks for another extensive review!
Excellent review, Thomas. Here in Australia they are introducing the V6 TDI Amarok but they are still keeping the Bi-Turbo 2.0L TDI for the lower models. Is Amarok in the German market made in Germany? Australian-delivered Amaroks are built in Argentina and have had some quality issues... I wonder if German-built ones are better?
Hi , I'm Argentine and yes Amarok built locally have had several issues specially regarding engine and oil consumption. German Amaroks are built in Hannover (as the reg plate shows) in the same plant as Transporters and California.
+joako2706 thanks for the reply! I've heard of engine/engine oil issues as well as issues with rear differentials on the Argentinian Amaroks. Hopefully they've fixed these issues on the updated ones.
I have owned one for 4 years and have had no issues what so ever with the diff or any quality issues and it's built in Argentina. The 2.0 is a great motor and this will make the car even better. In fact it should make it the best.
There are well documented cases here in Argentina where VW has changed the BiTdi for astronomic engine consumption and turbo failure. I by no means say this is bad product , on the contrary , but there are issues.
Thomas thank you for the reviews and keep up the clear precise ways of the reviews you do I like them. I'm in the process to buy one but I want to know if this has better mpg than than 2,0L version and also if you get roll bars instead of sports bar design this has, also if a canopy can be fitted over the roll bars , is that possible? Thanks
Excellent review Thomas, is this a panic move by VW as the 2.0 biturbo does not meet the Euro vi emissions? As the 2.0 is quite adequate to be honest, I have 80k miles on a manual one and already one of the best on the market. I also know someone who overheated the auto gearbox whilst off road with a livestock trailer and he had to wait until it cooled down before it would move, this was with 400nm, I would love the v6 auto as my next purchase but I'm thinking 550nm would exaggerate this problem further?
The V6 engine is ONLY being introduced because VW has to meet Euro VI emissions standards in the European market and it was deemed TOO expensive to re-engineer the current 2.0L BiTurbo engine to meet Euro VI! That is why Australia (which doesn't need to meet Euro VI), will continue to sell the perfectly capable 2.0L engine equipped Amarok's alongside the V6. The V6 will be installed in only the Top line, most expensive models to sell to those who need to have a V6 badge on the bonnet and to use as bragging rights in the all too important marketing wars that will be launched. Note that this "ute" or pickup market is growing rapidly in Australia.Yes, I do own an Amarok and am so far, very happy with it.
Hello from Australia! :) The problem is with having those lamps up on top of the roof is that there is no room to carry items on the roof as the lamps are set towards the rear of the roof. Here in australia we usually would have some high beam lamps in between the two headlamps :)
Great review Thomas, as always. How would you describe offroad ability of Amarok comparing to big SUVs like Touareg, GLE or Range Rover Sport? Is it much better or comparable level?
I'd say comparable. We were on the same test track (it was a little bit different at that time though) with the Touareg see in this review: ua-cam.com/video/QAGNocdo1vY/v-deo.html
Very good review! I have biTdi 2.0 model for 3 years built in hanover. No problems yet. However would upgrade it to v6 engine in a heartbeat. I hate that 2.0 l lack of power and with manual transmission its hard not to stall the engine when you are starting to move. Also it could have more power at leats 170 kw not 160 kw.
cool car. i like the headlights... always reminds me on the tv serial "Ein Colt für alle Falle / The Fall Guy" with Lee Majors ;-). Just great look and nice review.
Fuaaa... La espero con ansias en Argentina... ya q mi padre tiene una.!! Y un Amarok V6 seria algo totalmente diferente... solo espero q por lo menos llegue hasta los 220 Km...
+Ansett76 No it does not. If you just drive on the street then yes. But in the woods, icy/snowy conditions, and when towing heavy cargo, manual controls are better and more durable. This is mainly a workvehicle after all. Best option would have been some sort of nob for different modes.
+Autogefühl yes I've seen it. i've driven it and can just underline your observations. However probably there is no better or worse, just a different target customer.
Great review, thanks. Considering as primary vehicle for commuting but motocross/enduro during weekends. Would it work well for two bikes? I guess gear etc would need to be in the back seat, after folding maybe..
Hey Thomas, can you put the technical specifications of the car that you're testing in the description part or at the end of your video. I was searching the technical sheet of this Amarok V6 TDi 224 for ages, i now have the 0 to 100km/h result which is 7,9s but i had to listen all the video. Greetings from France :)
Very good detailed review. I appreciate you doing it in English. I'm waiting for Volkswagen to bring the Amarok to the U.S. Any idea if Volkswagen is bringing it stateside? I've heard rumors of 2017 but nothing for sure.
nice vehicle and nice review, but most of the off road track can be even traversed by a car. there should have been really rough surface to show the suspension articulation and view from the outside should have been shown. If you see some unimog videos on UA-cam you will see that in those videos they have specially set up tracks to show the off road capability.
Hallo Autogefühl, I have a question that I hope you can answer for me. I recently discovered that Honda made a new Ridgeline medium pickup truck. Do you know if this will come to Europe, because it has so many amazing features that no other manufacturer has. Greetings from Belgium
Hi Thomas,I am desperately waiting for 2016 Subaru Forester XT premium detailed review like you did for Outback.I am planning to buy one soon but love to see your comments before buy.
Which do you prefer in off-road: this or the Tuareg? I mean, the more effective. Thank you. By the way, aventura is also a portuguese word, not only spanish.
hey, Thomas excellent review as always VW Amarok is very popular truck here in Algeria especially in the north, in the south(desert) they go for the toyota Hilux they say it is more capable in the sand and its engine D4D is more durable than the VW TDI. a few months ago VW corporation announced that by 2017 a factory in Algeria will produce the VW Amarok, VW Polo in a sedan version and Skoda Octavia, but since that time, there is no news,is the project was canceled? maybe you could use your own resources to know what's really going on ? big thanks from Algeria
+Autogefühl Du fährst Motocross :D? (4:16).
When I some time in the future can afford a car like that! I would buy the v6 amarok! Really would like to drive a pickup again! The only thing that I think VW should do, is a bigger facelift! The front and the rear lights look to much like 1980s design!
no one would buy them is the problem, Murica is already saturated with pickup trucks and with PR issues the Vdub has with Muricans, no chance in the world we will see it here in Murica :D

First of all thank you so much and we are working on that!
Danke wie immer für das Video Thomas :)

I bought my Amarok V6 Highline because of Thomas' review... Well, mostly because of it :)

haha but I cannot quit our community :o
I have no use for a pickup but I think the Amarok is really cool
Indeed a pick up is just useful if you really need it regarding to you work or where you live
That is really good fuel consumption. My father's ranger wildtrak 3.2 diesel consumes about 12l/100km.

bring dis to north america pls...
I think that they sell those in mexico.
Now you know how we European truck-enthousiasts feel

Clear this up for me..Truck wise, what do you guys get?The f150, Silverado, Ram 1500?
+Heartagram idk. they sell is my only explanation

I can say that in Australia I wouldn't take the Toureg places I have taken the Amarok. It's not really built for it. The Land Rover I would though.
Because Touareg wouldn't handle australian outback or you would be scared of scratching luxury SUV like that?
You've obviously never been to the Australian Outback - or you wouldn't be asking that question.
What information do you have of rear airbags?

thanks for following !
If this was available in the US I would buy it.
If I had the money I would buy it.
you and 2 others or 3 maybe :D
Brand and model of the hard top from the white Amarok ? Thank's!
Will it ever come to the US?
so Thomas, new Amarok, new Hilux 2.4 or new Navara, which is the best?
there is np 4L and 4H like the rest of 4x4 trck?and what aout the low gearing ratio is it available
The 8speed auto is fantastic and negates the need for 4L and 4H. The lower gearing and smooth change in these auto boxes are pretty amazing.
+Ansett76 No it does not. If you just drive on the street then yes. But in the woods, icy/snowy conditions, and when towing heavy cargo, manual controls are better and more durable. This is mainly a workvehicle after all. Best option would have been some sort of nob for different modes.
@@burrogrande it certainly does
Where can i buy the rolltop mounted on this amarok?
Nice truck, finally it gets a bigger engine it needs it👍
Is there a leaf spring suspension jn the back? And still more comfortable than Navara?
yes , leaf suspension on the back . Believe me , the leafs looks like they have came off a 7.5 ton truck . Must be Twice as thick as my isuzu DMAX.
Does the manual version have 4H and 4L on a switch or does the 'off-road mode' automatically shift the vehicle into a lower gear?
you can get the manual with the offroad gear reduction optionally
Look!!! That car is in Thomas Blue
😁
hehe =)
Do you know where I can buy this retractable cover?
you can order that directly at your dealer
Great review, i would be interested whether you rank the L200 or the Amarok higher ? I just saw that the Super select system was a bit more refined!
+metropin seen our l200 review?
+Autogefühl yes I've seen it. i've driven it and can just underline your observations. However probably there is no better or worse, just a different target customer.
Great review, thanks. Considering as primary vehicle for commuting but motocross/enduro during weekends. Would it work well for two bikes? I guess gear etc would need to be in the back seat, after folding maybe..
Thanks! The double cab has limited cargo area, for MX bikes I would take the single cab for longer loading area!
Hey Thomas, can you put the technical specifications of the car that you're testing in the description part or at the end of your video.
I was searching the technical sheet of this Amarok V6 TDi 224 for ages, i now have the 0 to 100km/h result which is 7,9s but i had to listen all the video.

Good review as usual, It has way too much chrome just has an US Pick-up
Thomas what do you think about the JV between Mercedes and Nissan for that new 4x4 ?
I think it's a bad idea
nice vehicle and nice review, but most of the off road track can be even traversed by a car. there should have been really rough surface to show the suspension articulation and view from the outside should have been shown. It will not, but there is a Toyota Highlander
no room for a second battery on the engine bay?
Oil change must be made also every 40.000km?
no, that comes earlier then :)
What is the name of the song in the intro?
9:33 that is considered extreme off road driving in Germany.
Is an adaptive cruise control (ACC) available?
afaik not, just the normal cruise control
thomas I would like to see a review of your quality of the new honda civic ! please respond, thanks
Noted!

+Shahzad Raza hey m8, lemme see what i can do! When u planning to buy?
Behind back seat is jack and nut wrench.
The Amarok has aged very well.
I agree
Just watched this to compare you cramped up in the Navara. Amarok much more spacious ?
totally
Which do you prefer in off-road: this or the Tuareg? I mean, the more effective. Thank you.
By the way, aventura is also a portuguese word, not only spanish.
+Nuno Osswald touareg is more comfy with air suspension optional
Hehehe political answer! :-) I can live with it.
Nuno Osswald jeep wrangler
Hey mate can you out the original head to head in a drag race?
really like this truck
Thomas,can you do a video review about Mercedese G 500 4х4.2 ?
we would have done that recently, but the appointment was postponed, we ll try to re-arrange it!
***** Well, good luck Thomas!I hope, you will do this review..Thank you.
hey, Thomas excellent review as always
VW Amarok is very popular truck here in Algeria especially in the north, in the south(desert) they go for the toyota Hilux they say it is more capable in the sand and its engine D4D is more durable than the VW TDI.
a few months ago VW corporation announced that by 2017 a factory in Algeria will produce the VW Amarok, VW Polo in a sedan version and Skoda Octavia, but since that time, there is no news,is the project was canceled?
maybe you could use your own resources to know what's really going on ?
big thanks from Algeria
+Axel Mazigh interesting thx! Havent heard about the factory yet lets see
Hi Thomas, could you write a few words about why you don't like 'genuine leather' in cars?
sure, see details here: ua-cam.com/video/8f91KgbVbJQ/v-deo.html
I highly respect your honesty in the video. Personally I do not agree, but lots of respect for the honesty.
For someone who wants to wipe it clean, you can pick the faux leather alternative as stated in the video.
I dont know which one is better, the v6 amarok or the ford ranger!
+Ryan here is our ranger test ua-cam.com/video/KY8Z9ksJ2vI/v-deo.html
Amarok
One of the few German cars I don't mind having not available in the U.S. lol.
elle est encore plus belle
bring to north america plz !!
no one would buy them is the problem, Murica is already saturated with pickup trucks and with PR issues the Vdub has with Muricans, no chance in the world we will see it here in Murica :D
I would love to see a skoda equivalent 😍
The technical term for those roof lights is 'wanker lights'.
