My birthday lands on Thanksgiving sometimes. It's always close.
Once, my birthday was on our class' Thanksgiving party.
I brought pumpkin cupcakes. Everyone brought treats on their birthday.
But my teachers told the class that they were for the little feast we were doing. I never even got one. Only my one friend at the time cared.
On someone else's birthday, lunch would be when we all sang happy birthday. But we watched a Charlie Brown movie instead.
Every time I asked if we could sing it, the teacher would act like I was being selfish and say after.
We didn't do it.
I asked if we could sing it the next day but she said, since it wouldn't be my birthday then, we wouldn't.
I was turning eight. So that broke my heart at the time.
Everyone acted like I was being selfish. And that made me a terrible human being.
That might be one reason I try to be selfless all the time. Still working on balance. I'm getting there.
But yeah, kids with birthdays near holidays don't get a birthday.
