Really great guy..Thanks for posting. Please Please Please give examples of what he is talking about on changes in song structure I am rivetted by this because I kind of think I'm doing it ...some of my chorus are 3 parters..I think it would be interesting to see examples.
Most songwriters I've met so far told me that their process is quite natural, they don't think about it too much, they just channel their feelings into stories or vice versa. Freund seems to be similar in that regard. I wonder if there are any successful/ highly regarded songwriters that actually go in with a 'battle plan' that relies less on emotion and is maybe a little more controllable. Sounds a little less creative on paper, but it would be interesting to know for people like me who just never manage to stop thinking and over - obsessing about concepts, pacing, wording etc.
Some good stuff here! The song structure observation is interesting. I kinda noticed that with a lot of the pop stuff. The bridge is not dead, but it's often the case that a song will have a tag / broken down verse or chorus instead of a bridge. Still performing that function. The double chorus concept is something I kinda picked up on in a few songs on radio as well. They often have the same chord structure with a change in vocal motif in the second part. It also functions similar to the the prechorus to chorus portion. Blues has it's own way of doing this with it's 12 bar progressions and often only 2 main sections, with an instrumental for something different. All good music has a balance between 1. familiarity, & 2. introducing something new. Longer choruses with changing vocal melodies is a clever way of doing this. A deconstructed/breakdown of an earlier section is another one.

Well, let's just say I have some more interviews coming up :)
Nice to hear from someone who has work with real world success. Thanks!
Super interessant! Dank dafür! ;-)
very interesting interview. enjoyed it.
I like how he calls the people who just perform his songs "artists".
Well, as he says in the interview, they often write the songs together.
Last part was the best advice
very insightful and interesting
Really interesting!
What hits has he written?
He has a #1 hit record out in Germany with Silbermond right now.
Literally stopped this video midway to write a song.
Some good stuff here!

Dankeschön! Untertitel sind leider immer wahnsinnig viel Arbeit, aber es kommen noch einige andere Interviews von deutschen Songwritern.
cool guy, but silbermond is an absolute embarassing german pop band in mainstream radio
I wanted to watch but I don't speak whatever he is speaking.
Hence the subtitles.
