- On Saturday, at noon, February 3rd, 2024. I stopped at the Zion Public Library for a Ribbon cutting for a free seed library. I asked Windy Driver if she could write me a little story, and she wrote:
On Sat, Feb. 3, a sprouting seed of impact was revealed at the Zion-Benton Public Library with over 100 people in attendance to see the unvailing of the Zion-Benton Seed Library. A FREE seed library for our backyard gardening community. Whether you are a first-time gardener, a grandma growing a few planters of flowers, a lifelong home gardener, or a child wanting to grow his own pumpkin for Halloween, this seed library is for you! All you have to do is go over to the Zion-Benton Public Library, browse through the drawers, and choose up to 10 packets of free seed a day. A collaboration of four organizations came together in February 2023. Building Up Zion, Illinois Dunesland Garden Club, University of Illinois Extension in Grayslake, and the Zion-Benton Public Library planned and planted a small seed library that had a soft launch in the summer of 2023. They quickly realized that the community was in need of a larger seed library. One was found, purchased, sanded, and repainted. The group of volunteers grew, and seed was donated, purchased, repackaged, labeled, and organized in the new seed library. It has been over a year of sowing and tending the Zion-Benton Seed Library, with over 200 hours just in the month of January 2024. If you would like to help pack seeds, we meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Zion-Benton Public Library. If you would like to support the seed library in other ways, whether it is through a donation of seeds or funds, please reach out to BUZ at buz60099@gmail.com. Come watch us and join us in growing and blooming in our community.
"Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks." - Philippians 4:6
Thank you so much for the story, Windy. Thank you, Sammy, for helping me put this together. 🙂🇺🇲🥰👍📷
