I've been using the LG Ultragear 48" monitor for a month. I am a software engineer who works from home, and this monitor works well for that purpose, although I still prefer my 2nd dedicated development setup, which uses a Samsung 49" CRG9 Dual QHD Curved QLED. The Ultragear 48" really shines at gaming, which is what I have been using it primarily for. I got used to the size rather quickly, and now am able to play FPS, top down RPG's, 3rd person games with no problem. The emmersion is unbelievable, and must be experienced in person. If you have the $$, I would highly recommend this monitor for gaming.

I took the TV to my friend's house to play some games, & once I was there I found I'd forgotten the remote...luckily his older C9 remote still turned mine on/off!
I bought this from B&H and have been using it for about two weeks. I was looking for a one screen solution where I could work (software development), pc game, and couch game. This fits that perfectly! I was previously using two 1440p 165Hz IPS displays and I have really enjoyed the extra real estate this offers when working. The inclusion of the display port was key for me as I currently have a 2080 Super. Not really a 4k 120Hz+ card but it is usable until I can upgrade. Since this is a monitor you can wake the screen by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard. If the screen is too large for you when sitting right in front of it you can put it in ultrawide mode which reduces the screen size and resolution by putting large black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. However, LG did have to make some changes to the behavior of the display to prevent burn in: 1: The standard brightness isn’t that great. I have to use it at full brightness during the day, and my office does not get a ton of light. Most games look “brighter” because of HDR. It is far from being bad. But you won’t be happy with this in a super-bright environment. 2: The anti-glare coating is a trade off. Yes, this greatly reduces reflections but it also makes colors pop less than LG OLED counterparts.

Got mine about a week ago. It's phenomenal. Ironically, it's the perfect size for my desk. I think many people overestimate how big it will be and as a result end up missing out on what it has to offer. Granted, it takes quite a bit of color calibration to get right, but Hardware Unboxed did a great video that included calibration settings and their recommendations work perfectly - it produces far more accurate colors after calibration than my previous monitor. Frankly none of the panel care features like auto-dimming or pixel shift bother me at all. The lightning-fast response time is just another tip in its favor in addition to the true deep black levels. I don't think I could ever go back to IPS or VA after gaming on an OLED.

Bro can u mention pros and cons of using this monitor? Does the pict quality of the matte screen nerfed a lot compared to the glossy one? I have c1 and i think it perform good for netflix and playstation. As both user pls let me know what u thinking because im considering buying one
No. LG's own C1 and C2 TVs have better strobing support and thus get less motion blur than this, so they're better for gaming. And there's other monitors out there with strobing support. It's the most important feature in a gaming monitor by far.
I am playing fps games with my LG 42C2 oled in ultrawide 21:9 mode. Much easier to eyes and runs faster than native 4k. So LG 42C2 is perfect for 40" 21:9 ultrawide gaming in 3840x1600. resolution.
I don't have a OLED monitor, but I do have the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and LOVE how OLED looks. I'd love to have all my monitor as OLED. Cost though is a massive problem. But OLED panels are great for fast paced games and offer epic movie watching. When the display shows black, it's BLACK. With luck OLED will be the display tech going forward.
Why do you think older HDMI cables doesn’t support 4k 120hz? It’s a myth. All my pretty old HDMI cables works perfectly well with LG CX at 4k 120hz 10bit RGB (4L10). Right now I’m using a cable from original XBOX One from 2013 because it’s the longest (not the oldest) I have.
Looks very nice but 48" is too big for me to use as a monitor. Even 42" is too big. 32" 4K 144-240Hz+ OLED, 1000+ nits, GSYNC, FREESYNC, HDR would be my ideal monitor. I currently have the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 which is a 4K 240hz, mini LED, GSYNC, 1000+nits, 1196 local dimming zones monitor and its awesome for both gaming and desktop work. Hardly any blooming with the 1196 local dimming zones. But yea, OLED will still be superior in screen quality & clarity. I hope they come with a 32" 4K version of this with a decent high refresh rate and 1k+ nits brightness.
do you feel very vague but noticeable vertical lines in pure gray gradience image like the windows task bar? I just bought one and found very noticeable vertical lines in pure gray image. i just returned it although i still think it was a fault unit and the normal ones won't find those grids. Please let me know thanks.
If they took this exact design and shrunk it down to 32” or 27” then it would be perfect. Also 1440p 240 or 165hz would be better than 4k at those sizes.
If they release a 32" version of this it's an instant buy for me (even better if it's 1440p). My 3080 12gb could drive the 4k fine but 1440p is still the sweet spot for high frame rates on that card.
wow monitors have come a long way. I recall paying pretty close to this price for my Acer Predator x34 ultra wide when it was new. (that was about 6 years ago)
Actually game on a 48 in LG C1 it's hooked up to my main PC with a 13900KF and RTX 4090. Got it on a monitor arm with some speakers underneath. I actually do better in Esports games on my C1 as it has near-instant response no ghosting and it's such a big TV that I can an eye on a target easier. But I still agree with you for your average FPS later is probably too big I'm defiantly an exception to the rule on that one.
Then I am an exception too :) . I also run an C1 48" with an 4090 but with an R9 7900X. I dont have any issues at all with fps games. I think tracking is much easier and the immersion is a dream.
I would like a large OLED panel to be able to have 2 or more windows side by side since I often refer back and forth for drawing etc. and sitting a few feet further for gaming would be great. A monitor like this would be great as a TV too. I have LED now but sure would like fast refresh and the sharp lettering one gets with OLED over even Mini-LED. Also considering the LG C2 OLED 48 inch but this looks better even though $400 more.
I would probably love this, if it was just a bit smaller. For me it's way too big for gaming at a desk, where I'm not even sitting 0.5m away from the screen.
hey greg you missed 1 key component of this monitor (((HDR))) hdr gaming is amazing i own a 48" LGC1 and the hdr in most pc titles and console titles are truly amazing! @ 3:56 HDR was not turned on, you need to turn it on. windows setting
I just love oled monitors but they should just make smaller screens as an option it is the size of the screens that is keeping me from going for an oled monitor if only we had a 32" oled monitor like this...
If you want to use gsync you need to cap the frame rate to 4 frames lower than the monitor Hz. If you don’t you will be using vsync and not gsync. So for this monitor you should set a frame cap to 134. I recently got the LG C1 TV. 4K, 48”, 120hz, gsync, HDR. The option of a display port would have been nice. Getting the C1 forced me to buy a 3080ti so I could use HDMI 2.1.
I'm thinking of picking this monitor up today. I have 3 main rigs 7950X3d 4090 on an LG CX TV, 5800X3d Ftw 3 3080ti on a 3440x1440p 144hz gsync display and lastly a 7800X3d Nitro 7900XTX on a 1440p 144hz Freesync display. While my 2 ips monitors look fine after playing games on an Oled, it really makes me want a new oled gaming display for my xtx. It will also be great for my ps5 or SX.
What really frustrates me about new high end monitors is the lack of USB-C DisplayPort output. It would be nice to have a decent gaming monitor with a USB-C display output so I can also use it for work and daisy chain with other monitors. The options out there are still pretty limited and refresh rates are just not sufficient.
Still searching for that good large screen space monitor for work & play. The 48" 4K has the right pixel density to keep it at 100%/no scaling so you don't throw away screen space, however they really need to improve text clarity. Coming from IPS panels it's noticeably worse. Likewise LG needs to improve the colour gamut. It's only in the upper 80's (85-88%) of AdobeRGB1998. I have 10 & 15 year old monitors that hit 100% or more (30" size). In addition, needs a bit more brightness w/ the Matte coating so you can use it in an normal office environment as well as a dark room. Lastly, even though LG's are better, there is still a burn-in issue when you spend 16-18 hours a day on the monitor.
I am concerned with image retention with OLED monitors. OLED works well with constantly changing images like TV/movies. Issues with retention are more of a probelm with things like a desktop with icons, etc.
Set up the screen move and screen saver and there's no problem at all. I've been running Oled TV for years and no burn in and I fall asleep all the time leaving the TV on for hours at a time. Now, I have this monitor with the same settings. It's much better than it was years ago.
I mean it's great being 4k and oled, but needs placed back a bit. The pixel density on this is nothing to write home about other than 'for its size'. But we're over 40" so why would it be 1440p? Pixel density of this monitor is roughly 92.5ppi. Contrast that with a typical 1080p 24" screen which is 92ppi. A 27" 1440p screen is 108ppi, 34" 3440x1440p ultrawide is 110ppi.
Years ago when I found you on my personal account I watched a little bit but ultimately un-subbed. I felt like you were a bit of a know it all or something? I don't even know. Looking back I don't really think that was the case. But now that I started my own channel, you've been recommended to me again so many years later and I must say you are now one of my favorite Techtubers period. I watch you so much, the Fix or Flop series is amazing. Thanks for what you do Greg! I think it was actually me and not you. But I'm happy to be a viewer now! I'm building a new PC because Premiere's chugging a bit and even though i've built before watching your videos has given me a lot of confidence in case I run into issues and some new perspectives on maybe where to look, both when you get it right and get it wrong.
I already use the LG 48CX6LA Oled for 2 years now as gaming monitor on my PC, it also has Gsync/Freesync, 4K/120hz and HDMI 2.1... If you go OLED, you never want back! 😎
Nice video. So this one you bought is the 48GQ900-B? Just wondering what B means. Also, what is the distance from the desk surface to the bottom of the actual screen, excluding the bezel? Thanks so much! Hope it's still working out for you.
Do any of the settings allow you to 'shrink' the display area? Say I want to limit the monitor to only show 27" in the middle with black filling in the rest of the monitor space. I googled around but couldn't find a concrete answer, thanks in advance!
This is Michael. The LG GQ 900 series IS ultimate, but the 32" nano IPS HDR 1000 is actually more suitable for gaming. You get all that 4K goodness on just 32" not stretched out to 48 and pictures are unbelievably clear. All of the other features are top of the line.
Is the text in desktop applications crystal clear? This is very important. I saw an OLED review of another monitor and it was said that the text wasn't crisp.
What gets me is people complain about these high end monitors.when I’m over here never played more than 60 frames a second on anything other than a half as TV , and old system.. but still SMASHIN on folks.
So... what does it have over the C2 that already does that stuff and comes in 42 inch? Sure it has a display port but for 4k 120hz gaming you already need a new enough card to use hdmi 2.1
Only reason I wouldn't select this is the antiglare which to me really kills the purity of OLED. Love love my 42C2 if they can make the next "C3" or whatever it's called in a 38 they'll kill the market even more so.

No.
LG's own C1 and C2 TVs have better strobing support and thus get less motion blur than this, so they're better for gaming.
And there's other monitors out there with strobing support. It's the most important feature in a gaming monitor by far.
C2 has no strobing IIRC only C1
I am playing fps games with my LG 42C2 oled in ultrawide 21:9 mode. Much easier to eyes and runs faster than native 4k. So LG 42C2 is perfect for 40" 21:9 ultrawide gaming in 3840x1600. resolution.
I absolutely love my LGC2 but something no one tells you about oled is that in a dark room oled displays feel like their melting your eyes.
What you mean?
Just bought their LG 42" C2 Evo 4k tv. $500 off through Best Buy($799). Finally moving up to 4k gaming.
No height adjustment is a big issue. You need a riser on the desk to bring the screen up.
You won’t be needing to bring a 48” screen up from a desk. You can also use a VESA mount if you need this functionality.
Just buy a damn tv and mount it lol
love your videos keep up the good work!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Greg: “Look at how good this thing looks from behind”
Me: Everything reminds me of her 😓
I keep waiting for oled monitors to be in the 27-32 inch range so I can get one. 48 is just to large to me.
There is a 27" 240hz 1440p oled on the way.
What you described would be the ultimate dream monitor!
do you feel very vague but noticeable vertical lines in pure gray gradience image like the windows task bar? I just bought one and found very noticeable vertical lines in pure gray image. i just returned it although i still think it was a fault unit and the normal ones won't find those grids. Please let me know thanks.
Greg , LG has a New UltraGear Curved 45 in 240 hz OLED coming too i cant wait to see reviews on !!!
It's great I bought it about 2 months ago it takes a little to get used to the size but I could never go back to anything else
Isn’t 4k 48 inches the same as 1080p 24 inches for ppi?
yeah it have everything and one year warranty that is just perfect couldn't be better
How is the sub-pixel layout for text?
If they took this exact design and shrunk it down to 32” or 27” then it would be perfect. Also 1440p 240 or 165hz would be better than 4k at those sizes.
A 27” 1440P 144Hz OLED would be perfect.
LG, make it happen
If they release a 32" version of this it's an instant buy for me (even better if it's 1440p). My 3080 12gb could drive the 4k fine but 1440p is still the sweet spot for high frame rates on that card.
This paired with a 4090 and MSFS will be heaven 😍😍
wow monitors have come a long way. I recall paying pretty close to this price for my Acer Predator x34 ultra wide when it was new. (that was about 6 years ago)
Same!!
I am waiting for the 32 inch version of this. It's coming soon.
@Greg_salazar1 I got you something too.
Considering this only has freesync premium and not the better freesync premium pro -
is the HDR being affected in anyway??? Thanks.
That shot at 9:15 HOLY SHIT THE COLOR ACCURACY. I thought there was actual dirt on screen until I realized it was in game dirt on your windows O_O
I just bought the Gigabyte FO48U for half off yesterday. Funny coincidence.
man you can tell the glare on the oled was way less once you see the glare coming off your tv in the background
Just got this paired with a 4090 and a 9800x3d…pure gaming bliss❤️
I just love oled monitors but they should just make smaller screens as an option it is the size of the screens that is keeping me from going for an oled monitor if only we had a 32" oled monitor like this...
I love mine. I have a 40" LG curved non-OLED, and I just love this 48" beast.
I stopped reading at non-OLED, no one cares dude lol
They are making a 1440p 27inch OLED its already on there website.
Too expensive… LG needs to make $500 OLEDs and stop messing around
Definitely would use this as a “TV” type of gaming setup with consoles as well
If you want to use gsync you need to cap the frame rate to 4 frames lower than the monitor Hz.
Just got this monitor for $852 on Amazon thanks to memorial day sale. Cant wait for it to arrive Wednesday
Waiting for their ultrawide OLED next month
I'm thinking of picking this monitor up today. I have 3 main rigs 7950X3d 4090 on an LG CX TV, 5800X3d Ftw 3 3080ti on a 3440x1440p 144hz gsync display and lastly a 7800X3d Nitro 7900XTX on a 1440p 144hz Freesync display. While my 2 ips monitors look fine after playing games on an Oled, it really makes me want a new oled gaming display for my xtx. It will also be great for my ps5 or SX.
@Greg Salazar vid time 6:41 that's what she said!
This monitor have the option to change aspect ratio to 21:9 like LG C2 have?
On sale right now for $899?!?! That seems like a really great price!
Get a hub
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thanks for exposing me to this monitor.
amazing screen for playing Star Citizen, but more over, what is that watermark ? Greg! during cod there were a big windows watermark XD
28 inch 4k monitor good enough for me and that's my main and i have a 1080 p for my second
How about dimming, when doing stuff on the desktop? Is it as bad as on the LG OLED TVs.
If they made this as an ultrawide monitor with a built-in USB hub then I would ditch my 40" Dell ultrawide.
Great review Spengler!
Hell yeah I can’t wait to get me one I need to upgrade for my gaming set up. I’m new on streaming on UA-cam. I play a lot of video games.
Now the ad vid is done, can u do sone long term pc use testing? Love to see how it fairs over time since this is the pc focused oled screen
I love the chonky remote.
I have a question: LG TV oled 48 C2 at 800€ or LG monitor 48GQ900 at 1000€ as a monitor. Both absolutely new. Which one i have to buy?
how many times have I watched the monitor review, but I noticed this smoothness and frequency only in the WoT benchmark on tank tracks
What is the difference between this and the LG C series 48 inch monitors? Also, where are the smaller size models like 27 inch version?!
I swear to god i saw that option somewhere on the internet, but now i can't find it and nobody can confirm it.
Please PLEASE LG make a 38 inch oiled ultra wide. For me this size is the sweet spot for both my work and games.
Do they sell something equivalent to this at 42"? OLED/120hz ?
I sure wish you have put a tape measure on this. with the stand, wide 42.2 height 25.9 width 7.3 Still trying to see if it will fit.
the reviews mentioned that there is an auto dimming problem. Have you found a fix for it?
Is the text in desktop applications crystal clear? This is very important. I saw an OLED review of another monitor and it was said that the text wasn't crisp.
Disable “clear text”
Holy shit that remote 😂
Does it go to sleep like a monitor? Move mouse and wake up?
If they released a 55" curved oled with a 32:9 ratio, I'd be thrilled. I could use it for gaming AND work. A ton of my clients would want them.
Running a C1 48 on my sim rig and a C2 48 on my gaming PC . Just wish they had display port like that one.
It's cheaper at 48 inches.
Does Greg stream on twitch? Would totally watch his game streams!
sent mine back a few weeks ago, the VRR flickering is not acceptable imo for such a price. Turning a feature off to fix isnt an option.
Honestly if you add a TV stick to something like this along with wireless peripherals and a couch then you have the best of all worlds
Only reason I wouldn't select this is the antiglare which to me really kills the purity of OLED. Love love my 42C2 if they can make the next "C3" or whatever it's called in a 38 they'll kill the market even more so.
Everything is great until you get to that 1972 Zenith remote! Space Command is back!
I love the Dell Alienware Ultrawide 32" the colors and contrast are amazing.
