Today we’re reviewing the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, All-in-one Printer. This is an All-in-one Printer, Scanner, Copier and Fax that is built for office and home office use. The printer has a black plastic body with a sleek design similar to what you’ll find on most newer HP printers. The HP Officejet Pro 8710 measures 20 inches by 15 inches by 12 inches in height and has a fairly large footprint for a inkjet printer. However when compared to regular office laserjet all-in one, the HP officejet Pro 8710 is actually pretty compact. It also looks a whole lot better than your average office printer. The 8710 has its power button and a USB for USB flash drives on the front face. The device is controlled through a 2.65” color touchscreen with touch sensitive buttons on both sides. The touchscreen is very responsive and all the menus and options are extremely easy to navigate through. It’s a very well thought out interface. In terms of connecting the printer to devices, most people will just use the built in Wifi. However, you can connect it directly to a computer using the usb port in the back or wire it directly to an office network using an RJ45 ethernet cable. Now since the HP officejet pro 8710 comes equipped with a fax, you can also connect a phone line to it, using the port in the back and also setup a phone extension line, in case you’re not using a dedicated fax line. And just as a side note, they do provide a phone cable for the extension line, so you don’t need to buy one. I am not exactly sure how many offices need a fax in this day and age, but its there if you need one. Setting this printer up is as easy as it gets. I set it up on my smartphone using the HP AIO app, which guided me step by step through the entire process. You can also set it up by typing 123.hp.com into your browser entering your model number, downloading the suggested software and following the prompts. Either way, its a very simple, painless setup. Big thumbs up to HP for making this easy. Another easy process is changing out cartridges. The printer has 4, 952 series cartridges which live behind this large, easy access panel on the front. The printer’s screen even gives you a step by step animation when you have to change out the cartridges. In fact the printer’s help menu, has step by step, animated instructions for all common maintenance jobs from loading paper to clearing paper jams in different printer zones. A very thoughtful touch. And talking about paper jams, the printer has several easy to open access panels to help clear jams quickly- something that’s very important for commercial users. Now the standard 952 cartridges will print a maximum of 1000 black pages and maximum of 700 color pages. You can always get the 952XL cartridges which will double the print yield. And I’ll leave links to those cartridges below. HP also offers an Ink subscription service called HP instant ink which might work for some commercial users. The paper tray can hold most sizes of regular and photo paper and can hold a maximum of 250 sheets at a time. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 also has a pull out paper output tray with a capacity of 150 sheets. The printer also has a built-in quiet mode, which reduces the amount of noise the printer produces. It’s useful if you want to keep your office nice and quiet, but this does slow down print speed a bit. In terms of copying, you can make both color and black and white copies and even copy multiple pages using the document feeder. It also has specialized options for scanning and copying ID cards, which is useful in an office setting. When it comes to scanning, you can scan and send to an email, network folder, computer or USB drive, all very useful options. And the document feeder again comes in handy for when you have multiple pages to scan. The feeder can also accommodate different paper sizes, so you can scan all kinds of documents. You can always use the built-in flatbed scanner for more precise scans and copies. The printer also has a dedicated walk up and print option for photos on a usb drive. And even an option to print a page full of passport size photos. You can even access files from cloud storage services like google drive. Surprisingly though, the option to print from DropBox is missing. Its not a huge issue, but it might have been nice to have.
So should you buy this printer? Well, if you’re small organization that doesn’t print large amounts of documents and needs an inexpensive all-in-one printer that is easy to setup and maintain, you won’t find a printer better than the HP Officejet Pro 8710,for the price.

Once you got the new printer from the HP, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS TURN OFF SOFTWARE UPGRADE!!! because once you upgrade it, your third party ink will not work! HP way way way way... over charger their ink!!!
Good printer I have the 6960 but ink has to be replaced a lot, even if I print less than 10 pages every week

Great video. I just purchased the HP 8710 and, you're right, set up was a breeze. However, I do have one issue. The display screen stay lit even when the sleep mode is set for 5 minutes. Any suggestions/tips? Also, is the question mark icon suppose to be lit all the time. Thanks.

I feel stupid for asking, but I can't see any option on the HP 8710 Screen for enlarging or shrinking copies, photos, etc. These are basic features on most copiers but I don't see them on this one. I have some 3X5 and 4X6 photos that I would like to enlarge to 8X10.
+Tom Slayton Touch Copy. Then under Copy settings, select document. Under the copy settings, you should see an "Enlarge" option to resize the image.
Does it print double side too? Definately going to order my old HP is has about had it, ive had that printer since 2013 and I print A LOT and i felt like I needed an upgrade. I was going to go to another printer but I'm loyal to HP i never had any problems

to automatically create a PDF file until the ADF runs out of pages ?
This will save A LOT of time.

Hi. I've been looking at the Officejet Pro 8610- is the 8710 just the next evolution from that one? In your opinion does it matter which of the two I purchase or there's nothing between them so just go for the best priced offer?
+Michael Heath Yes, the 8710 is the replacement for the 8610. I would recommend the 8710. But if the 8610 is much cheaper, I'd recommend going with the 8610.
Digital print error - general error. Can you please help me?
What I don't like about this printer is that you can only do walk-up printing with USB thumb drives for photos only, but you can't do that with document files, especially PDFs. That's a rather absurd and incomplete feature to have.
The previous HP models which have been the predecessors to this model also had the same problem too. Several customers have complained about this as well in the past, especially with lossy wireless connections (or secure environments where wireless connections are prohibited).
Good to see HP has ignored customer input and feedback. Just another printer to avoid purchasing for me...
this printer will not print a single check... when there is one check left over from a sheet of three... it picks it up and then says "paper not long enough" This will not be OK for me... does it expect me to throw out all single checks???? My other larger HP printer did print single checks..

am trying to reply... check is 8 1/2 x 3 1/2 a single check off a standard 9x11 sheet of three checks
+L Gid And you're loading them into the paper tray like regular paper? The simplest solution would be to first load about 10 regular letter size sheets of paper into the paper tray and then lay the check sheet on top. This fools the printer into believing the printer isn't down to its last sheet.

How does one print *labels* with this printer? -- There's not single sheet feeder ... or do the labels go into the main tray? How can a get an instruction manual or guide (that tells how to use the features)?
+Denise Ann To print labels you can put your label sheets right into your tray, on top of your regular paper. Just make sure you have them placed face down, to ensure they print on the correct side.

Can the scan resolution be changed from what I assume is default (300 dpi at 100%) to something higher by tapping the Settings button, or is scanning software required? I don't have one of these but I'm trying to communicate with someone who isn't that tech savvy how to increase the resolution of a scan.
Usually that can only be done through the HP smart software or HP EasyScan software. They don’t usually let you make such changes through the printer’s physical interface

The 8710 is a poor man's version of the 8620. The 8620 is still the best all in one inkjet HP has made. The tiny screen on the 8710 is ridiculous.
Horrible customer service. I have 15 with Epson. Got tired of thousand dollar print cartridges and confusing papers for normal printing. I used and HP8600 for several years, then switch to 8710 thinking I would have less service issues. ..WRONG. We have several up to 4 and 5 MAC-CatalinaOS with Xfinity wireless. I have spent five hours on the weekend and still have issues. HP support SUCKS!
