@@omarcogle1965 Exactly, but those rules don't apply to lesbians, only to straight couples like Ross and Rachel. For the L Word fandom, its basically like this:
Straightland: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.
Lesboland: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of endgame/true love.

@@TDKiller415 Then that's the problem right there, if people can call out Ross & Rachel's relationship out, the same should apply to Bette & Tina, regardless of them being Lesbians. Another example as you & I mentioned, are the Joker & Harley Quinn, who's also a toxic couple that gets called out a lot.
2 things I want to say also: Stef & Lena from the Fosters are a better functioning Lesbian couple than Bette & Tina, also do you remember back in the day when people didn't want LGBTQ couples raising kids, because they think they might make also LGBTQ, ironically they ended up being right about it.
Examples: Real Life- BD Wong (Gay actor) who's married to a man also has a Gay son. Cynthia Nixon (Bisexual actress) who's married to a woman also has a Trans daughter.
Fictional: Bette & Tina (Lesbian couple) also has a LGBTQ daughter, Angie. Max (Transman) with his partner are raising LGBTQ kids. Stef & Lena (Lesbian couple) raising a Gay son, Jude, and Callie is possibly questioning.

@@omarcogle1965 Exactly. Thats why its called a toxic relationship. This concept of a battered person or a cycle of abuse was first written about in 1979 by Dr. Lenore E. Walker, who won the Distinguished Media Award for it, and loads of psychiatrists and psychologists have followed suit. Its called "toxic" because the two feel a need to be together but being together is actually doing more damage to each other and other people than good, but they either don't see it or for whatever reason, they don't care. Its like a drug addiction. So here as a good example we have Bette and Tina, one a domineering and abusive partner and the other a weak and helpless partner who can't stand up for herself properly and who sometimes even pines for her abusive partner back (she most likely thinks "It won't happen again" or "It was the final time" like almost all battered spouses do) and worst of all, in this case, their mutual friends, Alice and Shane, keep interfering and like idiots keep on insisting that they belong together. They aren't true friends who tell them the truth by saying enough is enough and its time to go their separate ways because all they do is cause trouble.

As much as I hated this storyline, I've got to admit, Carrie really stood out here. The way she finally stood up to Bette, to the point that Bette tried to genuinely apologise and Tina began begging Bette to go.
Carrie had it a lot easier than Henry and Jodi. Tina and Bette just used those two. Carrie saw what Bette was doing and how defenceless Tina was, so she walked out herself. Got to give the woman credit for that. She didn't run away. She basically told both Bette and Tina to go fuck themselves because she'd had enough of their games.

@@omarcogle1965 Well Bette cheated on her and made a fool of her, and made her feel like an outcast in the group, especially with Shane and Alice parroting that Bette and Tina belong together. I think Bette really deserved it, if not worse. She broke an innocent woman's heart by using her for sex and then dumping her for her ex, and then she had the cheek to try and have her fired from the university. I was so glad when Phyllis convinced Bette to resign instead, because of both Nadia and Jodi. That was one time Bette didn't get her way, she couldn't win against Jodi because Jodi was too good for her. I'm not saying its right, but some people ruin or even kill their partners for adultery. Bette still got off VERY easy, even with that humiliation. Bette humiliated Jodi first, don't forget that.

Bette was the insecure one, thats why she was being so cruel, petty and spiteful to Carrie. Those are the most typical traits of narcissistic personality disorder, and thats what got Nicole Brown killed by OJ Simpson when she divorced him and began seeing other men to move on with her life while she was still raising their children.

For me the only saving grace was the superb acting and it reminded me a bit of Notting Hill, one of my favourite movies. Beals has that talent that no matter how cringe or stupid a script is, she can salvage it with her acting.
I've read here and there that ratings and popularity have gone down since because Marja wrote Bette and Tina out of the series, and then broke up Dani/Gigi and Shane/Tess for the sake of drama, so I didn't bother watching episode 3. Carrie was looking for an excuse? Tina was the one who fucked it up with that comment. Sure, Bette had done her fair share of making Carrie feel unwelcome in the family, even though both Tina and Angie loved her a lot, but Tina was the one who drove the final nail in the coffin. Can you blame Carrie for walking away after that? Would YOU stay with your fiancé who compared you to their ex spouse like that? Think hard, gov.

@@nightslayer6951 It doesn't matter what you mean, you have to choose your words wisely to avoid offending someone. Tina's choice of words was VERY poor, she basically said that Carrie would never measure up to Bette. She could've very easily said something like "I don't expect you to be like Bette, because I chose YOU over her." The "measuring up" thing was VERY offensive and hurtful, because it was the same as saying "No one expects you to be as good as her," especially when Carrie was already being bullied by Bette at every turn and no one was standing up for her.
By not standing up for Carrie and then saying that disgusting line to her face, Tina literally helped ruin her own engagement. Carrie was not to blame at all, she stood up to Bette when she was rude to her and paid for it when Tina didn't back her up. Bette and Tina were the ones to blame, so stop with your victim blaming, because its vile and filthy, and I know for a fact that had it been a man who had behaved that way and caused Bette to leave Tina, you would be fully on Bette's side and say the man was to blame.

She knew it would possibly cause a rift between Tina and Carrie, but she didn't care at all.

Actually no one expects that to come from their fiance. I mean when you hear that and come to that sudden realisation of what a shallow, stupid, battered idiot your fiance really is, to tell you that you will never measure up to their ex spouse, especially when they know you're already trying to do so even when you don't have to, its quite the heartbreaker, let alone a deal breaker.
I can understand Carrie completely severing her ties with Tina after that, not texting her back or answering her calls for a whole year in season 3, but for Tina to forgive Bette and take her back with her to Canada after all that shit she put them through in season 2? Well......
I kind of rest my case about Tina. She was the ultimate objectified dumb blonde woman of the 2020s. People wouldn't dare write this shit in today's series or films if men were involved in the story. Penny started as a street smart dumb blonde in the Big Bang Theory but she slowly evolved into an intelligent saleswoman but also something of a bully towards Leonard at the same time, but women still criticise her dumb blonde personality at the start, they ignore her character growth. Tina, however, stays popular and everyone likes her as Bette's property despite her lack of growth and independence.

@@TDKiller415 You know what's also sad about Tina too, and I know me and you have had this conversation, is also that not only did Tina take Bette back, but also stayed friends with Shane, who not only knew that Carrie had cold feet about marrying Tina, but didn't have the balls to tell her about, and instead told Bette.

    • @TDKiller415
      @TDKiller415 Рік тому +1

@@omarcogle1965 Exactly, but if you noticed, Marja retconned Tina's feelings for Carrie as being a lie because she was still in love with Bette. Bullshit storytelling, but hey, she had to put something to appease the ignorant masses. So that way, it could be seen by the idiots that Shane actually saved Tina from doing something she might have regretted for the rest of her life. We all know the reality that Shane stabbed Tina, Carrie and Pippa in the back all at once, because Shane didn't know Tina didn't really love Carrie, and Tina was stupid enough to still see Shane as a friend and Bette as her true love, but Marja just needed to reboot Tina's feelings by adding the line "I can't be with Carrie because I'm in love with you" in order to vindicate Bette and Shane's terrible actions, so that it would put Tina more at fault, that she was just using Carrie the whole time like Henry and would've possibly jilted her for Bette or cheated on her with Bette or some of the series' usual BS. It just made Tina look just as bad as Bette and Shane, if not worse, in my opinion. The icing on the cake was Tina taking Bette back again right after Bette had shown her selfishness coming back by asking her not to go back to Canada. Tina had just seen the alarm bells and she had left angrily, but she immediately took Bette back when Bette suggested that she run away to Canada with Tina, even if it meant leaving Angie to fend for herself with no parents to support her emotionally, leave her in the hands of a bunch of cheating idiots, and all that must've been like "Oh she's offering to drop everything to come and be with me? She really has changed. Maybe this time it will work." But that only encourages determination to not lose control, and encourages victims to keep showing their abusers mercy. Someone with Bette's mindset would initially say "I want to spend the rest of my life loving you more and more each day," but she would eventually grow to hate Tina for "making" her drop her career and move to Canada because she refused to back down, and it would lead to another round of misery for Tina, possibly this time permanent, because those other times it was Tina who kept leaving, but if the house in Canada was Tina's, she would be in the position to tell Bette to leave, which she obviously wouldn't dare, or maybe Bette would simply refuse to leave.

This was way better than season one. I actually wanted the show to be cancelled after watching the first season, it didn't do the original show any justice and not even because of the lack of Bette and Tina but because they were trying to match Gen Q's characters with the old characters and it just doesn't work. I wasn't a fan of Shane's character before even though I didn't dislike her but Finley she's the worst . Tibette is one of the main reasons why the original series was a hit and Carrie and Tina was just never going to work just like Pippa and Bette doesn't work. The last scene wasn't that bad in my opinion and again in my opinion Carrie's got an inferiority complex that is triggered by Tina's affection for Bette and not the other way around. I mean Carrie feels inferior but she's not stupid, she knows exactly that Tina was saying that no one could ever compare to Bette so don't even bother,Tina had to safe herself there for a moment and also she was projecting when she was blaming Bette. Carrie wasn't wrong to feel that way but I mean going from someone like Bette who exudes confidence to someone like her who's inferiority complex is off the charts is massive and that's not even Tina's type, she probably convinced herself.

@@jean-hn1dt Don't be fooled by the outside. Sure, maybe Carrie had an inferiority complex, but Bette's insecurity was far worse. I mean for fuck's sake, trying to be spiteful to Carrie at every turn? Feeling intimidated or uneasy because Angie wanted to wear Carrie's cufflinks instead of her's? That speaks volumes about insecurity and inferiority complex.
The only reason Bette is seen as the hero is because of her physical beauty, because the shallow shitheads can't see past it. I've read here and there that its been compared to Beauty and the Beast, where Gaston is considered the most handsome man and eligible bachelor in the village, but he feels threatened by the Beast who is far less attractive than him but who Belle chose over him, and instead of moving on and settling with any woman who'd be thrilled to marry him, he decides that if he can't have Belle, the Beast won't either. Its subconsciously Bette's state of mind here as well, that if she can't have Tina, then she will do all she can to make Tina's new fiancé feel unwelcome, with total disregard for Tina and Angie's feelings for Carrie, not caring in the world if Carrie eventually leaves and Tina and Angie possibly end up hating her for it.
Its just unbelievable. I think Marja screwed Bette and Tina up more spectacularly than Ilene Chaiken could ever dream of doing. Its like what David Crane said about Rachel in the Friends reunion special, describing her as a selfish, spoiled brat, and that even though she's popular, he said this line: "In the wrong hands, you don't like Rachel." Thats how I see Bette, Tina and Shane now. They do really come off as stupid, selfish people. Throughout the whole season, it was BETTE who was so weak and insecure that SHE was the one trying to measure up to Carrie, to the point that she was uncomfortable about something as trivial as Angie wearing Carrie's cufflinks instead of hers. She just couldn't come to terms with the fact that Tina would leave her for someone else. Her attitude was like "How dare you leave me for this unattractive butch!! What does she have that I don't??" Thats a very common trait in narcissists and sociopaths, they come off as confident and arrogant, but inside, they are the weakest people on the planet. Sure, Carrie felt insecure around Bette because she was the more attractive one, but Bette's behaviour demonstrated the whole time that she was the one trying to measure up to Carrie, not vice versa, because Tina had chosen Carrie over her, and she couldn't take it. THAT is an inferiority complex. If she didn't have that, she'd have moved on long ago.

I read a report from the Los Angeles Times a couple of days ago criticising Bette and Tina for being portrayed again as so toxic in Generation Q, because it noted that this time, it exploited and poked fun at an overweight butch who was obviously less attractive than Bette, so for physical reasons she would stand no chance against Bette of having Tina even if she was 100x a better and bigger person than Bette. That was when it dawned on me that whenever Bette and Tina played their stupid games, someone who actually had a disadvantage was pulled into the middle. First it was Henry, who was a man and who would logically be hated by the lesbian characters. Second was Jodi, a deaf woman who was basically treated as subhuman. Third Carrie, an overweight butch who was considered "too manly" to be a lesbian. Fourth Pippa, who was considered "too black".
This doesn't portray it fairly, and with fans out there who were actually saying that they should have got someone like Sarah Paulson to play Carrie just goes to show what a shallow audience this season was really created for. The LA Times said that it seemed as if Carrie was created for the purpose of being disliked and hated for her appearance.
Honestly, I know this is only fiction, but this really needs to stop. It doesn't play fair with women's appearances. It pollutes young people's minds and it can make them pursue the most ditzy, shallow or abusive women out there based purely on their beauty. The comments all over just parroting about how hot Bette is even when she's angry and cruel speaks volumes. The best solution for this is to cancel the L Word once and for all. Ilene Chaiken and Marja Lewis Ryan both showed that they aren't capable of promoting positive lesbian images, all they depict is them going from one lover to another and not being able to settle down properly, they just bicker like teenagers well into their 40s or 50s. They just have more sexual luck than most people on dating apps put together. Sure, the OG did have a very crappy ending, but having Bette and Tina stay together or divorce were both good ideas (even though their reunion behind Jodi's back was really shit writing). Having them divorce but then reunite all over again for the sake of faservice was beyond stupid and unreal.

I think the way Carrie was portrayed in the series, and how many fans left terrible comments about her like saying she's innocently evil etc, it left the majority of fans fed up, because they realised that Marja had turned Carrie into a stepping stone for Tina to appease the TiBette fandom, just to give them another recycled TiBette storyline and have them reunite once again.
