Very helpful. Just planted my own little experimental batch and coming in very well already! Needed to know how to harvest and this video was more helpful than all the others. Thanks!!!! Enjoy your greens!
I am growing my greens in my south facing windows. Here in Wisconsin there is still snow cover. So growing INDOORS is a must. I am sure that you inspire a lot of people to grow their greens.Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome. I lived in Northern Wisconsin some 20 years back. I used to raise baby green there too. I used cold frames in spring and fall plus a solar greenhouse during the winter. Regular florescent plant lights will also produce enough energy to grow greens. I used to grow under these in my basement during the winter.
I'm in SE Louisiana and all my garden lettuce keeps bolting. Just planted half flats of Mescun and Blue Kale. Will move to garage in heat of summer and put trays in fridge overnight. Will see!
I did these flats on the table of an unheated greenhouse in the San Francisco Bay area between Oct. and April. The cool weather and short days usually prevented the greens from bolting until after the third harvest. Lettuce in LA during summer is likely to bolt due to the heat. Try you lettuce in fall, winter and spring. With adequate fertilizer and water it should develop properly. Also consider the variety of lettuce you are growing some are slower to bolt than others. I like Salad Bowl and it's improved form Panisse. These do well for me in Hawaii.
Hi, like watching you, would love to meet you and talk about vegies, but that wont happen, thank you for yoyr informative and visual lessons on greens and such and avid and new gardener Rick.
Rick, I have learned to never say never when there is a wish. I could be in Milwaukee, WI for a wedding, Honolulu, HI changing planes or just down in China Town San Francisco looking for the worlds best egg roll. You never know where I might show up! Thanks for the feed back, glad you enjoyed the video.
Mesclun is a salad made from a selection of lettuces with other edible leaves such as dandelion greens, mustard greens, and radicchio. It is as healthy as any salad but because it is harvested in the young tender stage it is fast and easy to produce.
I've grown this in zone 3 with a passive solar greenhouse or under plant lights in the cellar. A bank of LED ag lights in the closet will make a crop. Aloha

Thanks for the video. I’m zone 7 and will try this this coming Fall.
A very simple project and you don't even need a garden.
