The London Korean Film Festival Teaser Screening series returns this year with the European premiere of fantasy drama Be With You, based on Japanese author Takuji Ichikawa's bestselling novel of the same name. Lee Chang-hoon’s directorial debut takes us on a heart-wrenching journey deep into sunaebo, the type of pure and eternal love lying at the core of countless Korean and Japanese melodramas of the kind; yet is perhaps a concept less familiar to the Western eye.
While Woo-jin (So Ji-sub, Rough Cut) mourns the passing of his beloved wife Soo-a (Son Ye-jin, The Truth Beneath), their young son, seven-year-old Ji-ho, holds unfailingly onto his mother's vow to return when the next rainy season breaks. Ji-ho’s unflinching faith in his mother’s words prove not in vain; miraculously a year later the three are reunited on that promised first day of the rainy season.
The woman who appears once again before Woo-jin and Ji-ho looks no different to the one lost to them just a year before. Yet Soo-a has no memory, not of the husband, nor the son whom she once treasured so dearly. Despite all this, Soo-a willingly returns with her family to the home, which though she cannot remember, feels oddly familiar. For Woo-jin, though now practically a stranger to his wife, having his childhood sweetheart back by his side is in itself an inarticulable joy. He recounts to Soo-a the stories spanning back to their high school days of how, many years later, they would finally come to be together. Such an esoteric devotion brings with it equal measures of pleasure and pain for Lee’s protagonists; would the young lovers still have trodden the same path if they had known what laid ahead…?

Extending the work of and then building up to the annual London Korean Film Festival in the autumn, the teaser screenings showcase a diverse range of contemporary Korean cinema across the year. The screenings are scheduled to take place monthly at either Regent Street Cinema or Picturehouse Central in London, as well as the Arts Picturehouse Cambridge.

First I watched “a moment to remember” and 5mins after finishing, I watched this one. Now I have no mental health and my emotions are in a total roller coaster mood. Dont do what I did.

The first movie i watched earlier in the morning is 'The Last Princess' which played by Son Ye Jin after that 'A Moment to Remember' and just now Im done watching 'Be With You' and right now I can't open ny eyes clearly because I ended up crying while watching those movies. I felt really broken right now. Just sharing😊

I literally cried a lot because of this. Damn, Son Ye Jin and So Ji Sub really match with each other and also, the young Soo ah and Woo Jin OmO they're so cute. Uncle Hong Gu, you really played a big part in their love story. I salute you for that!! I was so surprised when I saw Park Seo Joon as the teenage version of Ji Ho. Huhuhu I'm crying.

A meaningful sweet sadness is how to possibly describe it. Different from any typical Kdrama sad ending.

I watched both versions and i can say that the japanese one is inferior in terms of acting and the production maybe because its more recent or idk. The korean version is far better but of course it was still good since it was the original.

It was very heartwarming and sweet lovestory. Son Ye jin never fail to amaze me with her acting skills. ✨ PS: AND OMAYGAWD SHE CAN BE ANYONE's LEADING LADY! Thought its going to be a love story, but its way more than that. She decides to choose a 'short years of happiness ' instead of a longer year of uncertainty. Korean movie never fail to surprise us.

Absolutely beautiful. A possibly timeline where she gets married and have a son and die young. Even though it hasn't happened, her son's love for her in that future showed her that future in a "dream" and pulled her off of coma. Which she then realized.

I added this to my watch list a looong time ago just because of the leads. Today I decided to finally watch it without even reading the synopsis or watching the trailer thinking it was a happy romance movie… I should’ve known better. There was like an hour left in the movie when I started crying, well more like bawling… literally. I haven’t cried that hard in a long time. It’s 1:20am and I just finished it, I look like I got punched in the eyes but it’s just from sobbing and bawling. Anyways, read the synopsis of every movie before you watch it people, don’t be dumb like me. Still, this movie was beautiful. Heartbreaking but beautiful.

I just watched half of this trailer and didn't continue because i decided to watch the movie. I watched it yesterday and i swear there are no words that can describe it. Beautiful just beautiful. I truly loved it. I also recommend to watch Windstruck a korean movie. It also hit in my heart like this one. There's also Werewolf boy too. Seriously, Korean movies are the top. I watched both versions but I must say i liked this one better probably because the chemistry between the leads is better and they added some korean humor which i liked. Plus Gong hyo jin and Park seo joon’s cameo was cute. Must watch!
