I own about 10 pair of thorogood boots. 5 that i alternate for work. Best work boots ive ever owned. They break in quick and are super comfortable and durable. Nest of all made in the USA 🇺🇸
Love that man. It just makes so much sense to me to have multiple pair of work boots, even the same type and style if wanted. Rotate those buys and they will thank you. Glad you get this.
I have the same mentality, and I work in the steel industry 320 days a year. I own 11 pairs of lineman boots from Hoffmann and Wesco, i order mine custom built because I broke my feet and ankles, I probably have around 9k dollars in lineman boots and alternate them. They will probably last me into my 80s 😂
Great boot. Very comfortable! No break-in period. Only problem is that they developed an odd odor. I couldn’t control it and developed into a serious problem. Tried to clean them inside/outside, different sprays, changed socks, etc! Of all my boots this pair is the one that smelled bad. Don’t know why the inner lining caused the smell. I had to toss them out. My redwings and golden fox are not lined and they don’t have that smell.
The leather is 2.5mm so it’s slightly thicker than an iron ranger, but being tumbled it makes it so much softer and appear thin. A very comfortable boot!
Have 2 pair of broken in Iron Rangers. Not for long hours on concrete or walking all day. New pair of Thorogoods on the way. Hope they have better cushioning in the foot bed.
I can tell you , this boot holds up. I usually go through a pair of boots every 6-8 months (not this brand). I've had my Thorogood Boots for over a year, and everything on this boot is intact. Also, being on my feet all day, they don't make my back hurt. I work for a pork processor and I'm in the cold, coolers, wet, blood, freezers at -17 degrees F, smokers, hog pens (with live hogs), lime rock driveways, etc... Great boot! Worth every penny! I'm a female and its very hard to find real work boots in the size I need, Thorogood has the best variety in sizes as well. Glad I found you. Now my husband is getting a pair. These are made for real working people.
Those videos are really great 👍🏻 Not that I don’t like unboxings or reviews, but what’s really interesting to see is how a pair of boots will hold up after a while.
I work at a place that gives you 160 dollars a year boot allowance so buying nicks or whites wouldn’t make since to me financially but other people I agree with

It's just a stereotype. There's nothing wrong with either for farm work, it just depends on if you'll be riding a horse or not. It's not made for equestrian activities, just like a cowboy boot isn't made for construction.
My papaw farmed from the time he was able to walk until he died at 85 years old. He wore a pair of Wedge Sole Moc toes for as long as I can remember all day long, every day. Idk why anybody would say they weren’t good for farming. People wear them because they’re comfortable and they last a long time. Yeah they’re good for wearing on concrete, but they comfortable everywhere. I wear them everyday myself. Still work on the farm in them. Not near as much as he did, but they’ve never let me down.
Perhaps you can get a pair of Russell Moccasin Boots. Put them through the test. In the 60's that style of boots was what everyone wore other than a logger style or western boot. Although there were some "dress" boots that were considered high top shoes. As for the top eyelet. There is a quick and simple way to tie the laces using the eyelet. However it works better with a larger eyelet a cobbler can install.
I've worn Thorogood since 2015, railroad work, trucking and now state service. It's been the only boot I trust. Other boots just aren't as comfortable as Thorogood, for me. I'd definitely pick them over the $500 and up boots.
My pair fell apart in less than six months of wear. The stitching blew out on the outer toe area near the flag, leaving a small but noticeable hole in the leather that will only further deteriorate with time. For boots that were supposed to be "built to last," that was pretty disappointing. And I'll never buy another pair. I contacted Thorogood about their 1-year warranty, and they charged me $15 to ship them back for an "inspection". Only for them to just return them back almost a month later in the same condition without any further explanation or correspondance. I've since switched to White's Perry Selects at a similar price, and they are way more comfortable and better built. The Thorogood's, in comparison, are like a cheap knock off you'd find at Walmart. There's a lot of hype around Thorogood boots, but there are much better options out there at the same price point.
My oldest TGs are 5-6 yrs. working in myriad enviornments. I also have steel toe that I don't use as often that are 5+ yrs in. And some RWs - insulated/goretex and a lightweight 'electrician' boot that is pushing 30 yrs. They all get punished in various environments. The key is regular cleaning/maintenance of the leather. One needs to treat them as with any high quality tool. Boots, to me, are a tool , and like any quality tool, they require care and maintenance. A $200-300 TG/RW should last you at least 5yrs or more. Sure, a resole oe 2 may be neccessary. I work with so many people who won't spend money on quality gear, but will spend $4 a bottle for Lite beers (x6+/night) at the bar, not clean their gear and then bitch when it only lasts a year. I can't even count the number of times guys will ask me about boots, and then come in the next day with some POS boot because it was cheaper only to have it fail within a month.
Dude you got it figured out!! I too wish other people understood. Hopefully they will learn by example. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment! More great stuff coming out on the channel soon!!🥾🥾
Man I wish they made them wider. I get the Carolina USA amp 8” moc steel toe for work. Carolinas are great but Id like to get a pair of thorogoods if they fit. They almost need to make a EEE width. 🤙🏾
It is too bad that these are so narrow in the arch and instep (even in 2E). I just can't wear them. I've tried. Last time I went to the boot shop I tried on all the Moc toes I could find and these and the Carolina were like that. The Danner and Red Wing felt, if I had to say, flatter and more voluminous in that area. I wanted to get a pair of these for beaters, but they don't match my feet. What it really feels like is that the 2Es are really a D width, if I had to put my finger on it. Do you know if this is a common thing with moc toe lasts in general? Being narrow, that is?
I've worn Red Wings for 40+ years. The only thing that wears out is the sole. I wear them every day all day period. And you're telling me these boots last a few months, if you wear them 2-3 times a week??? Mmmmmm. Probably stick with the RW.
I drive forklift but still on and off up and down 100 times a day and am on concrete alot so I want a quality boot for work but not spend a ton of money for since I won't work em as hard as some
Love the boot in general. Had them about 2 years, but hiking? No way. These are too slick. Honestly, they slip in winter conditions from back and forth to work even.
There are some boot brands that run the crepe outsole for hunting boots, those could be designed to give a bit more traction. But for light hikes, I haven't had any troubles. Would get crazy on ice and snow for sure. I have a set of YAKTRAX for winter! ua-cam.com/video/QpAx8MglHsU/v-deo.html
These boots are ready to work while heritage boots require various lengths of break in time. I suggest these for people who need them now or anyone who destroys any boot. I was a plumber pipe fitter in wastewater plants for 27 years and I wouldn't choose a Nicks or other $5-600 boot fox that wet and sometimes nasty environment.
Well there is different type of leathers that thorogood uses!! For example the crazy horse is full grain not tumbled leather! I’m on my 2nd pair of thorogoods and the crazy horse leather is a lot stiffer then other leathers
I love thorogoods.. i wear them casually and to work.. .. i collect boots also and these imo are great boots for the price.. awesome video just subscribed
I have a pair mine is the tall one I think 8 inch is a steal toe lace up and it was very tight I noticed my right boot really dug into my toes and to the top of my foot I put some waterproofing/leather softener on it even tho it turned them a little bit darker than what they where originally they are comfortable
@@GentlemansJourney appreciate it! I just saw I'm near a boot barn so I will go in person to try out and order through online since my job is buying em
Wow I ordered these a few days ago and watched your original video on them and now the UA-cam gods put this vid in my feed! They will be delivered on Monday and I’m looking forward to trying them out. Not sure if I’ll use them for work or not. They look too fancy to work in! 😂😂😂 Take care, man! 👍
I've been wearing the flyways for almost three years. I just change out the insoles whenever they get smashed to bits. Keep them clean and waterproofed and they will kick for a lot of years.
Yup I bought some for my dad he still uses them, but 2 months after I bought them for him the outsole started separating. We do drywall some demolition, so kicking us involved especially with heavy gauge. But I bought them because they were supposed to be indestructible. Heard it was common for last years batch of boots. And that Carolina makes similar ones made in U.S.A with stitching underneath outsole, just like my timberland boondocks
Great review. I tried a pair on but haven't quite pulled the trigger buying them. I had no idea the leather was tumbled, I know of a leather strop maker in Japan who tumbles his horse hide...my feet are like hooves anymore. Lots of trouble with them, hard to find shoes but I think I'll revisit Boot Barn, I want to see how much cush the shoe has without the insole..gotta have cush..take it easy man..
If you do buy a pair, make 100% sure you get the right size for you. Even measure it on the foot measuring thing shoe stores have for width and length of you have to. A lot of guys buy these boots and get the same size they wear in tennis shoes and then bitch and complain about their boot. Myself, o wear an 11 in almost everything in a regular width. In these I have to go a half size down depending on the brand. Thorogoods I have to do a half size. Red wings I had to go a full size down and I bought a cheap pair of Brunt Marin wedge soles to try out and I had to go a half size down in those. In regular width. Got the brunt in a comp toe because I have to have it at work.
I love my Thorogood boots. I have two pairs both 8in height. One is a Moc toe, very comfortable and I use it as a going out boot. I then bought a emperor toe thorogood. And I love that boot. I like a wide boot with lots a room in the toe box. Both of my boots are in steel toe and they have so much room in the toe box. Of course I got mine in a EE width. I work in an office but sometimes I go out into the field. I feel confident these boots will take a beating and keep on ticking. I recommend these boots to everyone. But, unfortunately I just bought a pair of Whites Longliner boot. And there is no comparison of a Pacific Northwest boot to a thorogood. Pacific Northwest boots are just better. But, they come at a higher cost. I hate to admit my White’s are now my favorite boot. And I feel like I’m cheating on my Thorogoods! Lol And now my other problem is I have looking at Franks and Nicks boots! Now I’m going to have to budget for boots like a new car payment! Lol First world problems… Thank you for all your videos! I enjoy every one!
Haha, I hear ya there. Just start a UA-cam channel like me and then you get your excuse to buy more boots LOL! I love my PNW boots and agree that there is just no comparing them to the mass produced. I am looking into the Whites Perry Boot as I have their Fire boot. Appreciate the kind words about the channel. More videos coming soon.
@@GentlemansJourney My first PNW boot I got was the Perry Moc Toe 8in. I really liked the boot, but they only come in a EE as their widest width . I did whites measurements work sheet and thought I’d be fine with the EE width. I came up with a 10 EE, but I was wrong. I then sent my measurements into Whites and they came back with that I needed a 10.5 F. I wish the Perry came in a wider with but the EE is as big as they go. So I ordered the Longliner in a 10.5 FF. And man the fit like a champ. I went with the FF just to be safe and I’m glad I did. Now I have my Perry’s for sale on Poshmark! Lol
Been wearing Thorogood boots every day for about 5 years, I go through a pair about every 6-9 months. Every one of my outsoles separated from the boot. I noticed if you wear them by a fire often it will definitely speed up that separation I wear them all day at work, and all day after, I ride motorcycles in them. Best fit for me personally so I’ll put up with picking up a new pair 2xs a year
So my last pair or Thorgoods were a moc toe actually before that my Redwings were as well. This pair of boots I opted for a Thorogood round toe.. I'm just not a fan,, I think the toe box is bigger making them more comfortable in the mocs. My moc toes with the wedge sole lasted me 3 years, I know I will not get that out of this pair. I do think Thorogoods are a much better and more comfortable boot then Redwing and both brands are about the same price point.
I just bought a pair of these last week. They don't need much breaking in although a little snug at first. I had to take out the insole insert as it a little tight. I think once boot broken in and the cork is molded to the foot the insert might be ok to put back in. I ordered 1/2 size down from my tennis shoe size. Width is very important to get right or else the boots might not ever be comfortable. The leather is thick enough in my opinion. I just was not into 2-3 months (or more) of foot pain breaking in a pair of veg tanned boots. I am wearing these for everyday use, not work so I expect them to last a long time plus they are goodyear storm welted and can be easily resoled for not much money. So far I am loving them.
Sounds like you got a really good hang of things there! Came to very same conclusions as I have on their quality and expectations. Hope they serve you well friend!!
If you do tree work, these work very well. Ive known two guys who own these and say they're comfortable. One guy resoled his and has worked in them for over two years.
Great review and info mate! Do you ever have to do any ladders? These do not have the heel for ladders, that would be the only downside I see in that industry.
Sole separation: why most resole or go to the cobbler 🤷🏽♂️. Seems like an easy fix to me. And the welt read it is rubber, but when you get them resoled ask for a leather welt. I just got a pair for non-work use, so far fantastic!
My first pair I worked outside so I got waterproof and insulated composite toe took me 3 months to break in. My new pair I have had for a year now I work indoors now have a regular pair steel toe no break in required love them
Problem is when I review Whites, Franks or Nicks and then come over to Thorogood. That said, I certainly know what you mean. One of my biggest points for gentlemen is that when we trade our time with our family for the mighty dollar$$ we gotta be sure we are using that dollar wisely. These seem to be a great place for a guy to spend his hard earned money. Thanks for watching!
Oh gosh twice a week Man you really wear your boots a lot I'm sorry man but I wear my boots 7 days a week I need somebody that wears them 7 days a week sorry
THE TRUTH IS THAT IF YOU WORK HARD IN CONSTRUCTION THIS SOLE WILL LAST ABOUT 8 MONTHS.

Lol
And now my other problem is I have looking at Franks and Nicks boots! Now I’m going to have to budget for boots like a new car payment! Lol
First world problems…
Thank you for all your videos!
Lol
The wedge just doesn’t work for me. Full body ache
What’s your go to boot?
@@GentlemansJourney Either my Wesco Firestormers or Franks Patriots. Loggers and my high arches are friends
Been wearing Thorogood boots every day for about 5 years, I go through a pair about every 6-9 months. Every one of my outsoles separated from the boot. I noticed if you wear them by a fire often it will definitely speed up that separation
I wear them all day at work, and all day after, I ride motorcycles in them. Best fit for me personally so I’ll put up with picking up a new pair 2xs a year
Sounds like you got it down!! What conditioner do you run? What type of bike do you have?
Why not resole them? Does it change how the boot feels or something ?
@ericrodcast002 that was my question. That's why we but re-solable boots... so we can spend $60 and get them re-soled lol
I had a pair of these that didn’t feel right on my toe so I took them back after a few days but I definitely think I had a half size small
Thanks for watching and best of luck finding a good pair of boots for you
@@GentlemansJourney my plan is to give the thorogoods another go in a half size bigger or a wide
Thanks for this input! 🥾🥾
Thorogoods are no good if you have a wide foot
I could see that, I have a medium width and it fits great. Thanks for watching. Be sure to catch all the fun videos coming out.
Do they run true to size?
Run big for me. Check out the first video m.ua-cam.com/video/5qarM72_VRg/v-deo.html
My outsoles split too, unfortunately
Oh no… did you get it repaired?
Do you always wear tactical gloves when using a lighter so you don’t burn your wittle fingies?
Ehh?
i have had great experience with thorogood
My year has been great. You'll see more on the channel for sure!
Yeah it would be nice to get that rubber welt replaced for leather for sure. Thanks for watching. Cheers.
Fantastic content 👌 👏 👍
Means a lot, thanks for watching!!
Good boots. Good video. 👍🏻
Cheers for watching and should have plenty of this stuff coming in the future!
I used mine for a year 5 days a week and mine never fell apart still have years left
That's a great review! thanks for watching and taking time to comment.
My first pair I worked outside so I got waterproof and insulated composite toe took me 3 months to break in. My new pair I have had for a year now I work indoors now have a regular pair steel toe no break in required love them
Sweet man!
Thanks !
You bet! Cheers for watching
I wore a pair for two days im a deck setter and my whole sole split on mine
Oh no that’s terrible
That's crazy that he said it's. Low price point I have a pair and I love them there totally worth it but not a low price point lol
@@GentlemansJourney fair enough
I've worn them every day for about 10 months now soles don't seem to last my Redwings lasted a lot longer, still love them though
I'm working through my Redwings now so I'll see how they compare! Do you wear them for work?
Great boots! Definitely picking up another pair
Good choice! Wear mine often!
Love Thorogood. Go half a size up from your brannock size
I went a full size down
@@GentlemansJourney i'm 1/2 size down
I’ve had mine about a year and I love them
Great review!
Oh gosh twice a week Man you really wear your boots a lot I'm sorry man but I wear my boots 7 days a week I need somebody that wears them 7 days a week sorry
Ehh? Got a boot channel, lot of boots to wear. 🥾🥾
