    Great reaction. Personally I never recommend this to anybody for the first time hearing BABYMETAL because it can turn as many people off as it can get people wanting more - and when I do suggest it I recommend a live performance. This was filmed in a live performance but it is the official video and the audio was from the studio recording.
    There are two main reasons Su's vocals were not as strong in this:-
    * It is one of their fun songs and it is deliberately cutesy to contrast with the thrash metal instrumentals. It really is just about wanting some chocolate, but they are a bit worried about their weight - but it is chocolate and would be so nice, so can they just have a piece of chocolate please);
    * This video has the studio audio dubbed over the live footage. They are notorious for over-processing and compressing the vocals in the studio ... Su-metal just sounds so much better singing live where her voice is natural and strong, not compressed and messed about with.
    There was no focus on the band in this video for three main reasons:-
    * It is the official music video - BABYMETAL is only the girls, the focus will be almost entirely on them;
    * This was the studio audio and the musicians who played on that recording were not on stage;
    * The guys in skeleton suits (known as Babybones) who were on stage were not musicians and were not playing the instruments.
    BABYMETAL started off with very little budget and they sang and danced to pre-recorded instrumentals on a backing track. They had the Babybones guys on stage for show (everybody knew they were not musicians and were not playing and that they were just there to make it look better).
    When it had been decided BABYMETAL would become an independent band they were given a little more budget and the Kami Band were phased in gradually, playing a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows.
    This went on from October 2012 to this concert (Legend 1997) in December 2013 - this was the final stage of BABYMETAL separating from their parent group and becoming independent and that was a large part of what this concert was about culminating in the finale 'BABYMETAL Death' (well worth a reaction - but make sure it is the live Legend 1997 performance - that one will surprise you, I will just say it is less "cutesy").
    At their next big shows in March 2014 at the Budokan in Tokyo the Kami Band finally became the full time support for all live shows from then on - and BABYMETAL also released their first album and then started touring the world for the first time.

      Your first point is pretty accurate. This is the first song I ever heard from them many many years ago, and immediately dismissed them as a novelty band. I only recently listened to them again (I heard the Road to Resistance live performance), and now I love them.

    Almost 10 years ago now, one of their earliest hits and the girls were very young!
    You should do one of their newer songs such as MONOCHROME which is available in two versions, one, a lyric video which is the "metal" version, and one is the "FIRST TAKE" piano version which I think will really blow you away...

    Nice to see you're back with more BM songs.
    This is their breakout hit in 2014, for better or worse, either you hated or loved it, this MV got the highest amount of views on their channel, and fans are enjoying this song almost every night recently at Sabaton's Europe Tour, is a hit they don't wanna miss in almost every live performance, hopefully you'll get the chance to see them live when going to the US for some festivals like Aftershock, Blue Ridge and Louder Than Life as well the Babyklok Tour along with Dethklok, don't miss out the opportunity to see them live.
    Dance choreography and metal has never seen before and an important part of this is thanks to Mikiko-Metal (aka Mikiko Mizuno) she's behind another famous Jpop group called Perfume and is very well respected sensei with her own group of dance Eleven Play, she was behind Olympic Games ceremony.
    And the mastermind behind this madness is KobaMetal.
    This MV isn't actually live version and not even with the usual Kami Band like you noticed, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. Back in the day, before 2014 mainly, they used to have this backing band called "baby-bones" air playing instruments wearing this skeleton costumes, they didn't have the budget to afford a high level set of real musicians like they have now, so progressively since 2012 they incorporate the real band and leaving the baby-bones behind, they did a great job supporting the girls and giving a show, so shout-out to them for being part of BM story.
    This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"_
    They're just singing about wanting to eat some chocolate but they worried about the weight just like any other regular girl, there's not so much hidden message behind, they used to have fun songs like these without so much deepness on the lyrics just to have fun and party, but the brutal contrast on this is remarkable, no doubt about it.
    See you in the mosh'sh pit means go watch Road Of Resistance live in Japan official but you already did that one so next suggestion:
    - Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014 official.
    They feature some songs for the trailers of Tiny Tina's Wonderland videogame last year, Gimme Chocolate!! also sounds in the credits of the game.
    Thanks for sharing this and see you next time!🦊🤘🔥

    I am grateful that I was able to fully enjoy the greatness of this song because the timing of the comments was smooth and the content was appropriate.
    I felt respect for balancing attention between musicians, vocals, and the two girls.

    Well... this song actually more like a fun song, even the lyric is very simple. So no wonder that you hearing the different of Su-metal singing styles.
    But this song is going viral back in the day because of the contrast between the heavy instrumental and the cutesy vocal and dance that giving a good shocking impression. As the result, babymetal be able to realese their first album worldwide and kick of the first world tour.

    The Headbanger you watched was standard version. There is another version with the same stage but performed on next day or something, with very long theatrical Ave Maria intro. That show is a must see in my opinion. That version gave out a different vibe to the crowd, and you can hear the crowd was even crazier. And it was one time performance. You can find it on UA-cam.

      Same day (they only did one night for Legend 1997), but earlier in the show - 'Ave Maria' and the 'Night of 15 Remix Headbanger' was the opening number (they did play it the year before as well at the Legend D concert on Su-metal's 15th birthday).
      At Legend 1997 'Gimme Chocolate' was also played before the Kami Band come on for the last 5 songs (which included the 'Headbanger' performance she reacted to previously).

    The main focus of the group has always been the girls as THEY ARE the group. The Kami band technically aren't actually a part of the group, they are simply hired session musicians for the live performances. They aren't even the ones playing the instrument on the studio recordings, a lot of which is actually computer generated and not an actual musician playing the instrument.

    This is really just a fun song imo - but not one to introduce ppl to that haven't seen them before....I'd say you're underexposed atm :P (same for The One or Road of Resistance - both kind of fan oriented I feel). The band - at least early on seemed to get a lot of focus and quite a few solos - to me they felt pretty involved - if you watch more live you will get to see them more (try Kagerou live for example - the one with 1.2 m views (complilation but still great) or Rondo of Nightmare at Budokan). I've got the legend of 97 concert and I still think it's one of the best - it's utterly non stop insanity with not a bad track and a fair bit of stuff they don't do any more(and you get to see Yui and Moa in sort of santa dresses - insanely cute and a pretty funny song) .
    Hope you continue to react to this band - they are REALLY good - and revived my interest in music after about 15 years of feeling jaded by it.

    they're maybe younger here than the other songs. I think their ages here are 16 and 13. This band also used actors in costumes to pretend to play those instruments at this point (the instrumental stuff is a track). Later on the Kami band came to be and the legit players were much more on display. A good example for that is Rondo of Nightmare. Their first hit song was Doki Doki Morning

    As far as their art director goes, the idea, here is to achieve some good old (Italiano) _chiaroscuro_ - light and dark. So cute vs gross, friendly vs aggressive, etc. all pushed for maximum contrast.
    One of the problems with people being able to "produce their own albums" is that there's an enormous quantity of new music being produced, often by highly competent/ talented/ brilliant performers, but also "according to the rule book", so the excellence in ability and execution can still end up sounding like "more of the same". And what you have in addition to all the new music reaching wider audience than the surrounding neighbourhood it would've reached before, is that the whole catalog of the past is also pretty much available, too. Not just the people who paid the DJs the best bribes to get airtime on that "radio" thang.
    So if you can successfully put together some cute pop (cuteness is big in Japan, from what I've heard - almost a national obsession, maybe) with some radical metal, you can stand out from the crowd. And this is the first time someone really succeeded with that (especially outside of Japan - look up Lady Baby for something I think came before this, but didn't make it to the outside world).
    Then it's just a matter of packaging it so that the distinctive aspects are emphasized (at least when trying it out on the world for the first time, like this). Metal musicians who can shred? You could make up a gigantic orchestra of them, and still turn down competent players who applied. Metal doesn't stand out. It's the little girls that stand out, so emphasize them, visually.
    To me, this song is very nearly just some kind of "stunt" right up to the point where that guitarist starts letting rip. (And they stage it so dramatically, with the girls running to the edges like that). At that point, they make the point (IMHO). (And to make that dramatic moment really stand out, it's necessary to keep the song at an almost conversational level. )
    Strange thing is that if it was just a metal band doing this (while scowling violently at everyone all the while) it probably wouldn't have quite as much impact.
    It's that contrast. The _chiaroscuro_ . (Well it sounds pretty damn fancy putting that way, anyway).
    To me, the later stuff hasn't really caught my attention as much. Once you've said, "What the hell is this? ... " once, that aspect is done with.
    I'm back to how squalor is at large in tidy suburbia, again, meself, now. How filth and dirt about in every corner, Left .
    (And it never gets beyond "Left"). *To Go Off and Things*
    *Paulo Sala* (the one from Italy, not the other one) has now imagined it as something John Dowland and Antonio Vivaldi might have collaborated on (probably the wrong composers, but I'm trying to make this Italian, because I said chiaroscuro earlier - which is an English word, now, so you're allowed to use it.) The contrast becomes between the sheer majesty of the music, and the images of squalor the AI made up to go along with it. Or in TL;DR format: It sounds like an orchestra done it.

One of the reasons was that they did not use a real band during the live stages, including this one. The silly actors in skeleton costumes pretending to play was too cringe for me. But, Koba the producer finally came to his senses and hired actual professional musicians (the Kami Band) which with the release of their second album changed my mind about them. I have loved Babymetal ever since including this song. Its all great live. thanks for the reaction.

    I see you have reacted to Babymetal a few times. Japan is loaded with so many other talented musicians. Especially All Female bands, such as Nemophila, Lovebites, Bandmaid, Aldious, Gacharic Spin, Bridear, Hanabie and many others. They have a growing following and you should check them out.

    Between that performance road of resistance and this performance is 2 years.. 14 to 16....so she probably was going thru alot of puberty so you heard Sumetal with a more mature voice first

    Please keep in mind that you are looking to the past. These times are irretrievably gone. Since Yui Mizuno has left, the whole emotional character of the performance changed, because they had lost their crucial "kawaii"-element which made them somehow irresistible. All the new performances are only shadows of former intrinsic emotional effects to their fans - but we all wish good (financial) luck to the remaining "new" BM . . . .

      The new Babymetal is not kawaii. Isn't that supposed to be their genre? We lost something when Yui left.😢
