The current setting creates double wear on the ssd. Data is first written to zil and then transferred to vdev, if I understand correctly.
What case and power supply did you use?
I used my Streacom ITX Test Bench w/Corsair SF450 ITX Power Supply. In the end, I went a different route and just used my current Proxmox Epyc Server with NVMe AIC's and passed the AICs to the TrueNAS Scale VM.

Minisforum AR900i w/4 x HPE FX 900Pro 4TB NVMe Drives/96GB DDR5 5200 (48GB x 2) SODIMMS/QNAP Combo m.2/10GbE PCIe AIC w/Dual Optane PX1600x 118GB SSDs Mirrored TrueNAS Scale OS.
