    I write this as an American gent in mid-40s. I have been married to a Vietnamese woman for 19 years. My wife and I are about the same age (she is 1 month older).
    Vietnam is a wonderful country. I love the country. I love my wife. Vietnamese women are really nice.

    Dan, of course Mike should start a UA-cam channel that would be beneficial to those who travel especially to Vietnam (VN). I don't think I would move permanently to VN, but the wife and I are considering a vacation home there. Interesting tidbit about the VN Visa - I was issued a five year visa because my wife holds dual Vietnamese/US citizenship.

    Thanks for the wonderful video. Please do start a channel on Vietnam/Saigon experiences. It will be great to hear how taxation is managed for the Vietnam part, since any overseas income may be subject to significant local taxes there once you reside there long term.

    • @darrellthody6125
      @darrellthody6125 3 місяці тому +1

      VN tax rates are significantly lower than almost all western countries and you are not subject to ‘double’ taxation. If you have paid tax in your home country at (likely) the higher rate, you would pay nothing in VN.

    • @pathkris2984
      @pathkris2984 3 місяці тому

      @@darrellthody6125 I mainly referred to retirees. Retiree couples for example, in the US with say 40K income per year, pay only about $1000 in tax currently. That income is about 1016720000.00 dong. To pay difference of tax on that amount after accounting for double taxation, even if it is 20% taxes, it will be about $7000 to be paid in Vietnam. Doesn't work for retirees unfortunately. Important to note, this is not for working people who earn income in Vietnam and are able to get FEIE exemptions.

    I have traveled to 7 countries in SEA this year and this includes visiting Vietnam 3 times. I love Vietnam and my favorite cities: Saigon (the heart of Vietnam), Da Lat (beautiful mountains - cool climate), Nha Trang (great beach - perfect size town), Hoi An (Old French Section, great restaurants - walking by river - bicycles). I would suggest slow traveling for at least a month in each one of these cities to appreciate Vietnam. I'm not really a fan of Da Nang or cities in the north except for Ha Long Bay.

    Hello again Dan. Like I said before I lived there 15 years and Mike is spot on about many things in HCMC. Now that I live in Pattaya Thailand I am not in the bars or eat out in Western restaurants only in mostly Thai restaurants I find it’s cheaper here then Vietnam. I love the Thai food more it’s cleaner people are not throwing garbage on the ground here no rats running on the streets people in cars are more polite no cutting in line. All foreigners. In Vietnam are seen as ATM machines and yes they do charge the western more. I haven’t had that happen to me in the outside markets here because the prices are on the stand. Anyway I wish Mike all the best 100% and remember every time he goes out with Vietnamese they expect him to pay. 😂 I can go on but all the best to my Texas friend.

    Very good interview, hit the important points. I found apartments more expensive in expat-favored areas tho. I agree on the trash. At night, sweepers appear and clean up the bags and stuff left on the sidewalks and gutters, but then it starts again next morning. I am getting burned out by the trash and overall shabbiness of Vietnam. Must be no housepainters here.
    Just went to Cambodia for a week, our poor Western neighbor, blown away by how it is improved. Zero trash in cities. Nice wide boulevards, light traffic, modern malls, golden temples in Phnom Penh. Small restaurants with Cambodian _and_ Western food (sandwiches, spaghetti, etc), $3-$5.50. At the hip Hong Kong restaurant, $6.00 Whereas in Vietnam, foreign food is only found in foreign restaurants (Japanese, Italian, American, Korean) at much higher prices.

    Not Vietnam... but the Philippines (my experience). I don't think it's 'cutting in line'. I believe it is a complete difference of personal space. When I stand in line, I generally leave 2-3 feet between me and the person in front. The Filipinos seem to see that as a completely open line, with no perspective if 'midwestern' (in my case) personal space which almost _requires_ 3 feet in every direction to feel comfortable.
