I pass by this building everyday and still don’t get enough of how magnificent the building is. Thanks for this extremely informative video. Please make more videos on Philly and it’s iconic structures.
Lived in the city for a couple of years and never knew all those details. It’s a wonderful building and still serves as a hub with underground connections to both main rail lines and to suburban and Jefferson stations for commuter rail.
Excellent video. This is my favorite style of educational content. ✔Professional, high-quality, and to the point. ❎No added vlogging, click bait, or pandering.
This was my favorite single sight in Philly. What an amazing building, and the way the whole city center revolves around it is so interesting. It's a shame to hear the observation deck is closed, I hope that it reopens before my next visit. I was able to get up there in 2012, just as a big storm was coming in, and it was something else. Scary with the wind and dark clouds, but an incredible view.
Thank you and thumbs up on the video, especially like the fact that they wanted to tear it down but couldn't afford it. The last three times I was in Center City I had to go 440 North Broad Street and because I didn't know which direction North when I got off the L, I'd walking to City Hall's Courtyard where a giant Compass was painted on the ground.
City Hall is the best building in the world! I have a tattoo of it on my forearm, took me 7 hours. Everyone told me to get something that meant something to me, and I love Philadelphia, so something having to do with the city felt more than appropriate. Everyone is always getting the skyline, but that’s always changing. What was the original skyline?
Yes, there are small "cutouts" in the ceiling of the observation deck which allow for a limited view of Penn. BTW there are stairs inside the statue that go all the way to the top of the hat where one can exit onto the brim. It's not open to the public however.
First taste of alcohol I ever had, 2008 Phillies won the last game, I and neighbors went out, one popped champagne & a little went into my mouth. I was 8 😂
The outside looks a bit grimey. Somebody should power wash the exterior to remove all the decades worth of pollution and grime...would look so much nicer.
The building was professionally cleaned over a 20 year period (1985-2005) at a cost of $80 million. A power wash of water and ground glass was used so as not to damage the marble. The main (north) portal of City Hall is now being cleaned (July, 1923).
Liberty place and the Comcast building are made of glass. Can you imagine if something happened to these buildings and all that glass shardes fall on the people below? Such an awful mass carnage. And you would Think that they would build some kind of shield over the people below. And that doesn't even address the lack of outside escapeways in case of a disaster like 911. When are people ever going to consider the consequences of a massive disaster? Have you noticed that the former buildings in the early 1800s were built of brick and had fire escapes and balconies in the case of emergencies?
I think its funny that this building is being kept from the Owner...the Very Same Abéràk SamUéL that was the cause of the Abolishment of Slavery in these Lands. Meanwhile the Visage of a Man Who Voted against Abolishing Slavery sits upom the Crest of the Holy Building that was the Last Stop of the Underground Railroad. Processing for Citizenship of the Aramayan Lands was conducted in this Building and it will be Returned to the Holy Empire and the Abounding grounds of Transylvania be Reinstated. I’m so glad you mentioned the “curse”. To imagine a city wanting to tear down this beautiful treasure in the 1950s is unimaginable. My son just recently arrived back from his first visit to Philly and he said visiting this building was absolutely his favorite part. You need to know it takes a LOT of work to impressive him! He’s used to modern glass and steel skyscrapers, so this building took him by surprise. 😎⭐️🥇🏙
Yeah it's difficult to not be impressed by this building! Especially when you consider that it's not supported at all by a steel frame. I love the building and thought it deserved its own video. Thanks for the comment!
The construction pictures definitely show steel framing and these are even from the city of Philadelphia. They could be fake and you could be on to something...it would be cool if there wasn't ant steel framing used.
There is no steel in the FOUNDATIONS of the tower which is supported by four massive 22-ft thick "Legs" of granite blocks some of which weigh 40 tons each. These "legs" rest on basalt bedrock. There is a lot of steel in the tower itself however.

Thank you!! I used to live in Philly and felt the same way. It’s truly an incredible building.
I remember when yhey gave City Hall a proper cleaning.. it was amazing

Thank you for featuring my city!

Thanks for the comment! It really is such a fascinating building. That experience at the top sounds wild!
The CH observation deck is now open (July, 2023).
I agree. It is a fascinating building. Great job!
Thank you!! I'm glad you liked it!
Great video! I hope you turn this into a series!
Thanks you! Yeah I'll definitely consider doing that!
Great job! No matter where I walk in Philly, I'll glimpse City Hall at least once: never get over how close we got to losing it in the 60s.
Like the new video idea. I never knew about the Philly City Hall but it’s fascinating
Thank you!!
Cool video
Thank you!!
Great video as always! Really hope you do Chicago at some point.
Thank you!! And I'll definitely get to Chicago at some point 😀
You are so nice taking time to answer the your viewers comments :)
I enjoy doing it 😊
Fun fact they used to tell us in school is that all new buildings taller than Penn were done “behind his back” so he wouldn’t have to look at them lol
Magnificent building. Great video.
Thank you!
That is a beautiful building, for me I love that statue, it makes that building unique.
Yeah it really is a beautiful building!

Thank you! Haha that’s hilarious that you used the giant compass 😂
Great video
Thank you!
You should do a video on a New England city, as I'd love to see it!
Thanks! I totally will soon 😊
He needs to do Boston

I think it is interesting that the windows are so huge making it seem like there are fewer floors than there actually are.
Yeah that is interesting. Thanks for pointing that out!
When you go up to the City Hall observation deck, can you look up for a close look at the statue?
I don’t think so. I think the windows just allow you to look out rather than up

My city the ⚫️ city of North
Can you do LA next
Thanks for the suggestion! I won't get to it next but I'll add it to the queue!
Background music was so loud
Great video!!!! Go BIRDS!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks!

First taste of alcohol I ever had, 2008 Phillies won the last game, I and neighbors went out, one popped champagne & a little went into my mouth. I was 8 😂
We must keep building taller and taller skyscrapers to win more championships.
My dad always told me if ur in Love park when it rains and u look at the statue u can see William Penn peeing 😂 it’s true
Victorian masterpiece. Belongs in San Francisco
The outside looks a bit grimey. Somebody should power wash the exterior to remove all the decades worth of pollution and grime...would look so much nicer.
Yeah I agree that it could use a power wash, haha. It's still a great looking building though.

Who was the schmuck that decided to change the color of its iconic night-time yellow/gold illuminated clock to stark white?
Uncle or other family member would go up the statue as a job and clean it or something
What gave them the idea to tear that beautiful building down?!? I bet they would have replaced it with some cheap and ugly skyscraper.
It was a dumb idea from Kevin Bacon's dad, Edmond Bacon. The latter Bacon was a city planner back in 1950s.
City hall built by horse and buggy people with no heavy cranes . We could not build this glory today

Fantastic! but too short brother...
You weren’t listening at all. It’s what the structure is made of for it’s height. Dope. Smh.
@@kellyjohnson9394 apparently you can't read..
@kellyjohnson9394 I was referring to the video being too short. Einstein...
@@buckbuck9225 You didn’t say that. Please read your statement. Peace.💯
@@kellyjohnson9394 I did..what the fuck is your issue? Why don't you tell me what I said that is irritating you?
