  • I hear it all the time ... "I love a single-pin sight but am scared to hunt with one. What if a buck is at 20 yards and runs to 32 yards?" The truth is, if you have intimate knowledge of your equipment and understand your sight's features and functions, a single-pin can be used for any bowhunting situation. Check it out!

    You still have to pick the right dot........ It is simply a vertical multi-pin sight.

    Switching to a single pin sight was the best thing I ever did it made me a way better shooter I'll never go back to a multi pin sight.

    I shot for years with just one fixed pin. I shot so much that I basically combined some of my instinctive shooting to the one pin. I sighted it in at 25 yards and just floated the pin up and down, using my brain to tell when it was good. I shot extremely well this way with no issues. But my background also included shooting longbows and recurves totally instinctive, no gap or using the tip etc. I also shot compounds instinctive as well, especially the Oneidas. yes, shot 3 D competition with it and did very well. The human brain is very awesome when you let it be and don't argue with it and then it is practice, practice.

    I just installed my single pin and I have it set at like 27 yards. In close, pin dot low; out past 30, pin dot a little high. Windage is right on....I just have to practice and know my elevation. I have been practicing by just shooting each arrow at a different distance away. I don't count, just estimate and aim accordingly. I am getting pretty good at this. The multi pin sight I used to have on my bow messed with my eyes and I couldn't focus right. I was eventually pretty good with it, but never great. This single pin simplifies everything. I'm really liking it so far. That's what's great about compound bows...super customizable. Use what works best for you. Thanks for the video, Jace!

    I switched to a single pin last year and i love it. for the same reasons having a bunch of pins clumped together is distracting when pursuing live game. however it is important to practice shooting at +/- yardage with the pin on one setting. example i set the pin at 30 yards and leave it, then i practice holds to hit at 20 or 40 yards with the pin still set for 30. this method works great for those deer that like to pop out from nowhere and there is no time to adjust the sight.

    The value of the single pin is when you can use a range finder to accurately determine your most probable shot clearing. Set the pin for that.

    imo this is basically a vertical multi pin sight, even with a single dot sight you still have to adjust 10-20-30 yards before those shots manually, a multi pin site theyre already there lol only thing benifitial about this is the clear sight picture. I understand the pins are distracting to some but it still seems itd be better for targets over hunting.

    I do the exact same thing with my SH Fast Eddie XL double pin sight. For a hunting sight it’s hard to beat!

  • @joshyoder4076
    @joshyoder4076 5 років тому +1

    Spott hogg double pin is also the only single pin sight with more than one reference. The sharpie mark will be difficult or impossible to see in poor lighting(primetime) plus having to remember the yardages for each reference is not worth it to me. But like you said, you have to know your sight and be comfortable. I personally feel most comfortable with a 3 pin slider because it's all I've shot the last 2 years. I don't find it difficult to remember 20 30 40 lol

    I used to shoot single pin (unadjustable) in competitive 3-d tournaments. It just takes learning how to compensate for the distance you are estimating. The distances are not exact anyway. You should be able to keep it in a 5 inch group out to about 45-50 yds.

  • @MrShysterme

    I run a movable single pin that I have yardages on from 20 to 60 yards and I can lock it down and unlock quickly.
    My bow is pretty fast at 300 fps. With the pin at 25 yards, I can hold nearly dead on from 0 to 30 yards center of kill (arrow is within inches of hold, for a 30 yard shot I just hold top of the 10 ring). If the deer is past 30 yards, I have time to move the pin.
    If I am set up where my max shot is 20 yards, then I set the pin to 20 yards. Walking around, I leave it at 25 yards.
    This is the best set up I have ever used in several decades of bow hunting. I primarily hunt whitetails and have a 30 inch draw, so with a fast bow, it is easy to get 300 fps and still have plenty of penetration (frankly, I don't understand heavy arrows for deer unless you have a short draw or low draw weight and have to search for energy, my 400 grain arrows break bone easily). If you have a slower bow, then I don't think this set up would work as easily.

  • @jcarry5214
    @jcarry5214 2 роки тому +1

    I don't get it, it's still being used as a multi pin, it's just on a vertical stem instead. Still informative, I just don't see the benefit of a single if it's not a single.

    I would think if a three pin sight caused you anxiety, the method you are using now must be terrifying! You are using basically two pins plus a hand written pin and a bubble. Much more confusing than three factory pins. Just saying

    Ok I’m still learning the nuances, but you have a dot for 20. You put a dot for 30, another dot for 36. That’s not a single pin at this point.
