It's funny, Paulie at the end had no arc, he ended exactly where he started, suntanning in front of Satriale's.
And somehow, he’s still my favorite out of this whole crew. But not my favorite in the show that goes to Furio EASILY
@@kenfresno5218
It also helps that he didn’t have to balance normal life and mob life like 90% of the other members.
Kinda reminds me of Ace from Casino. He started out as a medium level bookie in the midwest, then by the end of the movie he's right back where he started while all the other POV characters either end up dead or jammed up with the law.
You know who had an arc? Noah.
Probably one of Puss's best lines.
Look up “Noah’s arc” it’s a famous story about the world flooding and this guy (Noah) building a giant boat to save everyone
@@fv8399 That black guy that Meadow dated for a while and Tony didn’t like him. “Those old Tarzan movies”
To think that at one time Paulie was such a genuinely caring and empathetic person to Christopher. It's a shame they never really had another scene like this.
Unfortunately, the writers felt that the first two seasons were too warm and family oriented and decided they'd need to go a different direction, adding tension and making the characters unlikable, rather then what we got the first two seasons. I personally think the show could have been even better had they stick with what they had. But regardless, Sri a great show.
Chase realised people were loving the characters too much. He had to remind us who they really were and what they are always capable of.
The series started just around when the decline in the crew and Soprano family began to happen. Pussy being a rat, Junior & Livia wanting Tony dead etc. It just took 2 seasons for effects to show.
I still loved Paulie's character by the end despite being a nasty fuck. It's like beansie said "All I know is, Paulie Gualtieri is a stand up guy". Sirico did an incredible job in portraying his emotion
The good/funny side of Paulie is probably Tony Sirico, his nasty side is his acting.
It's hilarious watching fictional characters discussing their own lack of story arc,. The paradox of fictional characters seemingly unaware they are fictional characters.
What if we're unaware too? Gimme some arc in my life too you goddammit writer :D
@@jerry85g7 Yes, of course. Why did I write it like that? I think I meant something like "the paradox of fictional characters suddenly aware that they are fictional characters".
Wow. Some serious high-caliber acting from Michael Imperoli.
Nicholas he rivals Gandolfini In acting ability he’s criminally underrated
The jazz is stunningly perfect for this scene
Jams Ward the original scene had a different song. The original is better
@@crackhead868 WAY better. Really set the mood JUST right.
What the hell is this version even!?
"I got no identity, even Brendan Filone's got an identity and he's dead. I kill that f*cking Emil Kolar nothing, I don't move up a notch. All I got is nightmares"
Always gives me chills
Paulie left those two broads sitting in the car for a long time lol
Outrages! I bet those hookers have never been more disrespected in their lives!
I love the subtle gag of Chris assuming Keanu's arc peaks only because his wife left him.
Chrissy and Paulie seemed like such good friends in the first few seasons. It wasn't until Christopher was made that their relationship went way down hill.
I think that a lot of it is the result of backtracking. The entire organization felt different in seasons 1-2. Then the writers decided that everything was too warm and family-like so they took the story in a new direction. It felt weird in some cases, and organic in other. Like knowing how bad it got between Paulie and Chris in later seasons, and knowing what an asshole Paulie accually was, why were they even friends in the first place? Cus the characters we're rewritten a little to quickly.
@@MrSinthan I think a lot of that had to do with Chris rising up in the organization and have a direct line to Tony. Paulie got jealous and/or frustrated so that's why you see friction between them. You also have to take into account that Chrissie isn't just some guy that does odd jobs for the Mob anymore. He's a solider and that means he answers directly to someone like Paulie. When your friend becomes your boss, that can sometimes spoil the relationship.
@@chaser451 but he's Tony's cousin. He had his own direct line to Tony.
This scene is one of the examples of why The Sopranos was time greatest tv series ever. Intense.
Yes, subtle, realistic, with good actors and good ambiance, it's really awesome
The thing is Chris had the biggest arc out of any of the guys.
Sometimes Paulie has special golden moments with great lines...this is one of those.
“Did a few years in the army, couple more in the can, and here I am, half a wise guy”
- do you ever feel like nothing good was ever gonna happen to you?
- yeah and nothing did
Goddamn :D :D :D
@@finnjones2028 Yeah, there's a lot of wisdom in Paulie's attitude here.
Paulie was one of my most hated characters on this show, but he handled this interaction with Chris perfectly. One of the only scenes in the whole series where Paulie cared about anyone but himself. Giving Chris some brutally honest yet heartfelt advice.
I don't think so. There are a ton of awful guys before Paulie. Just to name a few Richie Aprile, Ralph, Mikey, Janice, so many more.
@@lovinliverpool Janice was unbelievably annoying and yes, even a murderer, but to claim she's as bad as Paulie? GTFOH lol
@@forman208 Maybe you're right, I made this comment 2 years ago and I certainly don't give a shit
Paulie in my opinion was always looking out for Chrissy, giving him shit a lot, but that was basically his apprentice. Paulie genuinely cared about Chris, it was just at certain points he couldn’t say/do what he wanted because of his position and loyalty to Tony.
Paulie had really good listening skills here.
Wow a whole entire scene where Paulie is likeable, rational, calm and wise.
More of this Paulie please
Love that Chris is listening to some sophisticated jazz to fit his pensive mood
Aptly "We go get are joints copped and tomorrow the words will come blowing out your ass" is a fantastic line both for it's naturalism and it's poetry. Chris shoulda put it down in his notebook.
Foreshadowing for how the story will end for Tony. He never changes, there is no arc.
The arc for Tony he's the boss he gets a cut from everyone and percentage from other businesses. He getting the leadership from his captains with no problem is his arc.
Michael Imperioli gives an Emmy award deserving performance in this episode
Honestly the Noah crack is one of my favorite shitty jokes in this show haha
"I had one prick chasing me for months in my dreams" HAHAHAHA
this is a excellent scene, it took a LOT to get Paulie to sit down and talk about Life and be kind like that
_“This fucking computer I thought it would do a lot of it”_
Oh Crissie, if only you had lived to 2023. This could have been a reality.
this is legit my favorite/most identifiable scene in any television/movie i have ever seen, man
This was such a great scene exchange between Paulie and Chris. The music in the background really sets the tone really well.
If they wired Chris's appartment they would have sunk the whole soprano family
"You ever feel like nothin' good was ever gonna happen to you?"
"Yeah, and nothin' ever did. So what? I'm alive, I'm survivin'."
Isn't that what most people end up boiling their whole lives down to right there? Kind of bleak, when you really think about it.
This episode is so symbolic to life and i only realized it when i got older
This scene was so unlike the rest of their relationship
One of the best scenes in the series.
The arc of all these characters is that they went further down the rabbit hole of narcissism and sociopathy until they had little to no humanity left and finally wound up dead
@83rdox I agree. It's a term so widely used its become arbitrary and meaningless.
His point is that people in real life don't have tidy Hollywood character arcs.
Christopher is on the right track, but asking the questions to the wrong people. He is in search trying to find what is the meaning of life but also what is the meaning for his existence. The saddest arc you can have is never finding it. That is what he feared his whole life and died never finding it
Ironic Chris is the character with the best arc
Rest In Peace
This is a great scene, especially Paulie.
Kinda wish we had seen more of this version of Paulie, had this very specific down to earth sort of wisdom
Pauly was cool as fuck when he wanted
I love the way he says nightmares
“I was born, grew up, spent a few years in the army, a few more in the can, here I am..half a wise guy so what?” Explained life that easy..
And here i am a half o wiseguy, so what?
Left his pride right at the door, paulie is looking at him like oh yeah?
Paulie sat and listened. Cool scene.
The excellent undercurrent is that Chris is absolutely correct. His character essentially stays the same throughout the show. He wants to change but is unable to do so. Tony, Carmela, Meadow, even A.J. to some degree, learn from their mistakes and move forward as characters. You might not like Tony but he is a far different man by the end than at the start. Even Paulie, although seeing no need to change and being content, eventually takes the Capo position against his instincts. Only Chris ends up where he started.
Tom Liberman Christopher sure did try to change - quitting dope, alcohol, and making Cleaver. He did achieve his dream of making a film. Too bad his addiction got the better of him.
Always felt that deep down Chris didn’t want to be in the mob. Just like Tony, and no surprise the higher in rank he goes up with the mafia the more he consumes with drugs and alcohol
Did you even watch the show? NONE of the characters you named "learned from their mistakes". Tony regresses into a monster by S6, Carmela stays in the EXACT SAME position for 25 years and a "separation" later, Meadow goes on an interesting arc just to sellout and stay in the familiar life, and AJ... I don't wanna start. I think you're giving way too much credit to Tony and his family the show is literally about how nobody changes everyone picks the easy routine way out
I think is reverse pal Chrissy is the only one who struggle while trying to improve, Tony just become a worse toxic person than he already was denying Christopher change
>That Polish-Czech-Salavic whatever the fuck he is
Always gets me.
Does anyone know what song is playing when Chris is talking to Pussy at Bada Bing? @3:36
he always say email , gets me hahahahh
I think this scene is the last time where we see a well-adjusted Paulie.
What's the name of the music in the background? I know the original had some Booker T playing in the background but I kinda like this version better. Does anyone know the name of this one?
Refreshing to come across a new scene every now and then, otherwise it's all quasimodo never had the makings of a shinebox varsity 😂
I love that Paulie basically said that in the end it doesn't fucking matter anyway.
Puss's line gets me every time!
Whats the song in this scene called ? the one in this scene is far more jazzy and different to the Booker T version
@@samuelschwartzmann4128 Booker T and the MGs- Summertime was from the original version
In other words "Your thinkin' too much kid"
I love Chris...
my favourite scene of the show
Getting your joint copped always helps when you're feeling down
I love Paulies take on life!
"I spent a couple of years doing this, a couple more doing that and here I am! So what!" 👏👏👏👏👏👈👌👊😎
Paulie did what was necessary to survive.. 'till the end.
Which is true in real life because in real life the reason his character survived was because his actor Tony Sirico made sure the writers knew that his character could not die. Many sopranos fans know he made sure his character couldn't turn informant which is also true but he also pressured them telling them his character could not be a victim. They went with his pressure. Similar thing for the actor of Sil. He was supposed to die at the end. The reason he was left in a coma was the actor chucking a fit.
Lmfao Puss’s laugh at the end always kills me.
Paulie had much wisdom to give:
Nothing like the Sopranos getting us empathizing with a mobster who shot a random kid in the foot cuz he couldn't write a movie script 😂😂😂
"The more of them you do, the better you sleep"
Basically Pussy (Weird nickname) has killed so many that he had become null about It.
He is called "Pussy" because he used to rob alot of places like a "Cat" burglar, hence the name pussy.
I think his arc is simply Tony. Was suposed to be his "father", but eventually killed him. Such a tragic figure, Chrissy.
This scene without BookerT playing doesn't feel the same at all.
Paulie sitting down to talk about something he doesn't understand while there are two girls waiting in the car outside.
Really good acting in this.
You know who else had an arc ? The fucking protractor
RIP Paulie
Paulie say “My advice, put that thing down a while, we go get our joints comped and tomorrow, the words will come blowing out your ass.”
Anyone got the name of the song in the background of the Noah’s ark bit at the end?
Chrissy: "Does Tony know about this?"
Paulie: *shakes head no
inside Paulies head: "not yet"
Lol his arc is a straight line up the chart.
First sopranos clip ive watched in a long time i dont remember and ive watched every episode 4 or 5 times on multiple continents.
"Does Tony know about this?"
He didn't answer his question.
3:36 = Can someone identify the song?
"I bought a script writing program and everything..." lmfao
Yo this has a different song playing on the background, wtf?
You ever have our sausages
The music in this scene is different from the dvd release. Why? Also the voices sound slightly pitched up.
I got 2 shineboxes in the car
All I got is nightmares!
In a way they’d like best friends one of my favorite scenes
I feel the whole no arc thing could apply to all the characters in this show. Because none of them get any better by the end of the show from the time they're introduced, they either remain the same way or get worse. Which make sense since these characters aren't good people capable of making changes
In fact David Chase has mentioned that he did not like that on TV the characters were so dramatic, in real life there is no such thing as Arcs, life simply happens, you die. As the end of the series.
"you know who had an arc...Noah?"
Anybody know the tune and the performer for the piece played during Paulie and Christopher's conversation about screenwriting? (Looked up the credits but they don't match.)
"All I got is nightmares."
Moon roof lol
what's the song name in the back?
"Chrissy" Awwee!
what's the song playing at the end of the video?
“I must be loyle to my capo.”
“You ever feel like nothing was ever going to happen to you?”
“Yeah and nothing did, so what? I’m alive I’m living, what are you going to do?”
Honestly realest advice advice ever
Yeah man I love it. People are always looking for more and more and making themselves miserable. Man sometimes you just gotta be thankful for what you have
Having good stable health is all I need. Im thankful for that
The rest are commodities in life.
He's a survivor after all...
Paulie should have opened a practice with the shrink who gave Carmella such sage advice.
That was the most comfortable line on the whole show cause everybody gets like Chris at some period of life
