I am so enjoying this story, wishing my mother could be here listioning with me. My mother was such a joy in my life and treasure to my heart, I miss her so very much. More so tonight as I listen to this story, she used to bring all 7 of her tiny children together in a circle to take turns reading stories just like this, she told us books are the true treasure. Bless her very sweet dear heart.
I wasn't sure at first, but after a few minutes I LOVED the reader's accent. And I really like the way she read the book. I would like to hear more of her readings.
Oh my, what a joyful, uplifting, fun story. Grace Livingston Hill was my grandmother's favorite author but this is my first acquaintance with one of her books. I'll have to try more of them.
I have tried listening to many of her other books, but they are so dreary and depressing. In fact, it's as if a completely different author wrote this enchanting barn story and someone else wrote all of her other stories! I know that's not the case, but it sure seems like it. I love the enchanted Barn. It is so uplifting. I have listened to it at least five times in the last year! ❤❤❤
This is one of the best books I've listened to. It has everything I love - interesting storyline, relatable characters that I can connect with, an uplifting presence, a sweet love story and home renovation! what more does a book need! lol This is the second time I've listened to it - it's just that good!
to the reader of this wonderful sweet novel. Your accent is perfect for this story. I hope that you've read a lot if not all of Grace Livingston books, I'll be going through all of them this fall. Thank you for doing this for us all.
Loving this enchanting story. Had read some of Hill’s books a number of years ago,. So glad I stumbled upon this one. Narrator is very good, though I would say that she needs to slow down just a tad.Thank you for this story!
@rattyrachel, I found that you can slow down any video on UA-cam by going to your settings icon (in youtube) and looking for "speed." I did not have to do it with this book, but I have had to do it with other videos. I typically will reduce the speed just by one increment and it really helps.
I had never heard of this author before I found these audiobooks but I just love the author's style. She is the American Jane Austen. God anointed GLH to write these stories.
This book is a fascinating look into the lives of those in need and the power of humility and love for God and effort and making a Home the charity of others the consensus of fellowship are very well presented here and this is a very enjoyable read some may find the narration somewhere off the voice pattern but I still listen to the beginning to the end and found it very very lovely read

This books stopped at the end of chapter 2...I read many Grace Livingston Hill books as a child and was disappointed when this happened. It show an 8hr plus time to listen to this audio. Could someone explain to me what I need to to to keep hearing to the end?
I get it.....there is a charge per month to hear the rest and any others I choose.....sorry can’t pay that subscription fee.....I can hopefully find this at the library.......thanks to any who might have helped me......now I get it.
Gillian MacLeod is shy and quiet, the least likely of all her sisters to seek out excitement and adventure. But on a moonlit night at a masquerade ball, Gillian steals a kiss from a mysterious stranger, knowing she’ll never see him again. John Erly, disowned by his noble English father, started a new life in Scotland. Most people are suspicious of the foreign mercenary and he does everything is his power to avoid romantic entanglements. But he can’t forget the bewitching beauty who kissed him in the dark, and stole his heart, even though he has no idea who she might be. A year later, John is given the duty of escorting Gillian to her wedding and immediately recognizes her as the temptress he’s dreamed of for months. There’s not much he can do when she's promised to another man, but fate intervenes and this time, passion-and adventure-can’t be denied. Honor demands he stay away from the MacLeod’s enchanting daughter, but love has a very different ending in mind...
Definitely from the East, I had to stop listening several times but eventually was able to continue and I am glad I did. ( I had thought it was a mix of NY and Boston, NE makes sense)
I wasn't sure at first, but after a few minutes I loved the reader's accent. And I really like the way she read the book. I would like to hear more of her readings.
I don't like Eastern USA accents either, they are horrible to listen to, but she has a very mild accent and although I did have to stop a few times, eventually I was able to tolerate it enough to listen to the full story. Her voice is nice her accent is not great but she can't help that.

I really enjoy the reader's Philadelphia accent. It is perfect for the setting of the story.
It took me awhile to grow to like the narration. Don't like the accent but she did a good job, and I am glad I stuck around.
I've always wondered what kind of accent she has! I thought maybe it was NJ lol, thanks for solving the mystery
excellent reader! thanks!

Tammie Streblow I like the Crossroads book
To anyone about to listen: There is a lengthy pause after chapter 2. Be patient; the story will continue.

lovely story about privileged people intertwining with hard working decent souls.
nice to hear a fairytale now and then.
So true
Thank you, it's like a nice women's fairytale.

Such a pretty sweet novel
Listening 12, September, 2022
anyone know the era the book is based on? im thinking 1920s possibly?
It was first published in 1918.
Good question since a lot of it wouldn't make sense if you don't understand the time frame. I love the way she transports us back to that time.
The author lived 1865 - 1947, so somewhere in there.
Grace Livingston Hill, is niece of Pansy, pen name. Her books are very good as well.
Awesome I see several on utube

Yolanda D yes, it does continue. You just have to wait. Be patient. 😃
It kept going, just bad editing.

Horrid North American nasal accent - read too quickly so that comma and full stops are not used.
