    Big question! I have aprox 120,000 photos in an external hard drive. I learned a lot with this video and that's exactly what I want to do. BUT, where does all the tag information (names, places, personal comments, etc) get stored? Do they get stored in each file in the metadata, or does it get stored in a library?? I ask this question because lets say in 15 years from now, maybe Lightroom will not be available, so I would like each photo to have its own information and be able to open it with another software.
    Thanks a lot for the answers!!!

    Are these tags searchable outside of Lightroom or are they only usable in Lightroom?

    Wow, I need to learn more about Lightroom! Ps- that bell sound in your intro has always seemed a few decibels too loud. Can I officially request it dropped a few clicks? Haha

      Dropped it -12. I think it's a little more manageable for upcoming videos. Thanks for the heads up!

    is it possible to use facial recognition to put sunglasses on a face?

    Thanks for this, I did not know about the Drag 'n Drop feature; I laboriously typed in each and every name. But you can select multiple images, then type in one name and they will all appear on each image - if that made any sense... :-) I also like the way it will ask is this "Mary" as a suggestion, then you can select multiple images and just click and off it goes.
    When they first introduced this feature I let it do my entire family collection of over 9,000 images from portraits, to class pictures. I was amazed to see it recognize my cousin when she was 11 years old and then associate that shot to one when she was 30. But it's not perfect, it can mistake the weirdest combinations at times. While this is amazing and fun, I've found I never really use it that much, now that it's finished. Rarely do I need to see all images of one person at a time, but who knows it's nice to have that high degree of organization anyway.
    It would be interesting if others would write in and let us know how they use this.

    Something very disturbing happened to me today. I recieved an email from a major corp. with a picture of me crossing the street. I was offered the job of " research". I saw no one take my pic and had not been in their store. Somehow from this small pic they tracked me down; name, email, etc. How would you feel?

    • @tutvid
      @tutvid 7 років тому +2

      Not very good. While the technology behind facial recognition is fascinating, I am generally a skeptic and think humans, if living in a world completely devoid of consequences for bad actions, would be pretty evil creatures.
      Because of that, I don't really like the thought of anybody out there being able to track down, identify, or otherwise "look into me" for their own nefarious-or other-schemes and purposes.
      That's a crazy story you tell, though! 🍻

    ok my question is does facebook/ instagram/ twitter use this information when tagging pictures you post? do you know?

    • @tutvid
      @tutvid 7 років тому

      That's a great question. I don't think so, but that would be quite the integration.

      so I had to LOL, I was watching one of your older tutorials (because I am ADDICTED to tutvid) while I was reading this comment and I got totally distracted and had to back up and see what I missed. Its a first for me being distracted from a video by the person who made the video with comments from another video.

    Google Picasa did the same job. Much faster and much less processor intensive too. Pity the data isn't exportable and the program is unsupported now

      Yeah, I feel ya, man. Picasa was pretty good at a few things.

      tutvid indeed. great video too. love watching your tutorials. the one thing it sacked at though was actual image processing.
      I wonder why Google never released snapseed for desktop as a successor to picasa especially now it supports raw editing.

      Facial recognition in Picasa was amazing. I keep a copy of the installer around since it still functions. Supposedly ExifTool can copy tag data from Picasa's format to Lightroom's format. I'm testing that out now.

    You only touched on it for a few seconds, but I think the Library filtering feature is one of the most powerful features (if not that, then certainly one of the most useful) in Lightroom.

    Unfortunately, on the big scale Lightroom's facial recognitions suck big time. Out of curiosity I run it through my family album. It's only like better than nothing.
