"... completely underestimated the work involved..." Swivels head looking for the person who completes a gardening task in the time they estimated. Finds noone. You're in good company. Beautiful job.
I love it when my two-day projects become two-week projects. It's great that you persevered and finished it because the results are fantastic. And you did it together!
I just planted 300 daffodils as a gorilla gardener. My gardens are just full to the max of spring bulbs so I use my fall budget and plant them in my random gardens in abandoned lots thru- out the city. The community gets to enjoy them then.
I was a good girl and paused right away. I was away and missed the part 1, then missed it when I was catching up. I really want to do this outside my front door. We have loads of space over here in Canada (10 acres of it is ours) but most of ours is natural forest. I made a field/flag stone patio area just out front and would love to do this around the perimeter. I have to think about materials but I think it would work great. I was thinking of incorporating some reservoirs under them and have the down spout off the roof feed into them first. As the water passes by, it will flush the reservoir and refill it with fresh rain water while the rest move on and out. In the dry spells I could just fill them using the hose I think. Not necessary over there for you I suspect. Might even be able to put some liquid fertilizer in them during the controlled water times. Thank you for such great content. ☺ Very inspiring.
❤.. looks Great... & I'm not building planter boxes currently, but Great ideas for interesting planters.. & you haven't given me an interesting idea for how to build up the center of my large perennial bed .. 😊 I've been to Scotland, over 25 years ago.. most amazing gardens I have ever seen, in just everyday people's front yards. You definitely expect beautiful gardens on large estates, but they were everywhere.. So, I luv to watch your channel.. Cuz.. well, if I had to leave Canada ~ Scotland would be my 1st choice.. Beautiful country & super friendly to us 2 Canadians.. 😊
Oops.. Kate & Eli Have given me some interesting ideas for the center of my large flower bed.. Sorry for the typo.. ya should always re-read your own typing, lol.. 😊
Hi Eli & Kate, your planters are lovely and when those bulbs make an appearance in the spring it will look gorgeous. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
I have bulb envy. 😍 I did over 300 bulbs last year, so I'm not allowed to get any new ones this year. I have to recycle. We've only just set foot into Autumn and already I'm desperate for spring! I can't wait to see how your new planter turns out! Well done Ladies! It's fabbo!
I really like cyclamen too, especially for winter colour but I struggle to keep them going through summer, especially in pots. Luckily they seem to self seed quite well so I usually find a few volunteers have sprung up in the autumn to replace the ones I’ve lost.
It is so enjoyable watching you two working together like this. That was a big project and it's looking great already. It'll look awesome when your spring bulbs start blooming. With all of the woods around me, Spring bulbs just end up feeding the squirrels, no matter what 'sure fire method' I've used to try and keep them out. I'll just enjoy yours from here.
@@eliandkate It's ok they are simply contrast enhancers... their job is to make the greenery and colours stand out even more (and then give way to the new green and colours that are hiding waiting to show off). :)
I wish my partner had the enthusiasm that Kate does, and can tell a daffodil from a daisy 😂 i have enlisted him on Wednesday afternoon for dismantling duty, the chicken shed needs to come down (one of the others on our allotments took my chickens 🥲, I’m hoping i get fewer rats 🤞🏼) i then want new compost bays building…….. lol. It looks fab btw! 😊
Beautiful job, love the planter and design. Watching you figure out what to put where was also good as I tend to plant like a squirrel on coffee. A bit here, a bit there and no idea where anything is come spring.
I love all them planters have you got a video on how to make them I am not very good at woodwork but I am willing to gave it a go on a Tuesday morning I do some volunteering at a allotment called men shed in Middlesbrough with people who have problems like depression I lost my mother quite a long time ago and I had a break down so I know what it is like so I got involved in the allotment and it has helped me with it 😁
Hmmmm We don’t do the “tutorial”thing on this type of stuff, but we’ve pretty much covered it all between the 3 planter builds we’ve shown. If you watch them in this order (it’s a playlist oldest to newest), you should have a pretty good idea of how we do it by the end. 😃 ua-cam.com/play/PLjhUBZdMh-4kTzsz2uTeEjhzHRNZTF8l3.html&si=GqN8mCp1hFz9QZEo
A question I've wanted to ask a UK gardener: How do you keep it straight in your mind when you mean "compost" = finished broken down organic waste from the compost bin and "compost" = a blend that includes e.g. compost, sand, soil, coir, etc.) In Canada, we call the second "potting soil" or maybe "raised bed mix" if its bulk. I think I'm correct that you call them both the same thing. Is it context that keeps it clear?
The mixes we called…. So potting mix or seed starting mix Although often people just say compost or soil just as it’s easier, but technically, if you were buying them you’d be buying the mix. Although I make all my own because it’s much cheaper
I love how you’re so careful how to plant and where! I gave my husband 500 bulbs one year and I’m not sure where he planted them because I never had a large display.
W❤W ... your new 'colourful corner' planter is absolutely incredible ... now it's planted up it looks amazing ... can't wait to see those beautiful Soring bulbs ....just fabulous ❤❤❤
You binge watch away, just remember that there’s a whole fabulous world away from the computer screen 😂😂😂 The bins are hot compost bins so nope not wormaries. They are a well known brand in the UK, insulated to help with hot composting
Love the way you set it up but are you going to have enough room to work on the bed beside it when you need to put up netting? Just curious. It never fails that when you think something will be done in a certain time that it takes at least twice as long. Ask me how I know. LOL
There was a whole 20 minutes of us back and forth moving the planter around to make sure I could get to that bed. I actually have more space than I did before 😃😃😃 There are a lot of compromises when you garden in a small garden 😂😂😂😂
Just watched all of the videos and they are all perfect so tomorrow we are going to have a Go put instead we will be 😮using pallet wood hope it turns out like yours did thank you for the information about the planters you

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 so true
That's going to look great for years to come, and you'll soon forget all the hard work you've put into it. There's no gain without pain ! Well done.
😂😂😂 but you what that means right? We forget, so at some point we’ll think… oh let’s build a big planter 😂😂😂
You're gonna need a bigger garden 😆😆@@eliandkate

@@eliandkate thank you I am very grateful to you
It looks wonderful!
We’re super pleased with it
Well done girls
😊
would be cool to have some of the bulbs in narrow troughs at the ends of each raised bed, on the gravel bit :)
Brilliant planter Eli & Kate ! looks wonderful 🎉 Could you not turn Beano and Gnasher the other way along the fence to the gate ?
It’s working out fab… Kate moved them a tiny bit and it all came together 😄
