Alamat is an 8-member sing-rap-dance boy group from the Philippines that combines both traditional and modern Philippine cultural elements with Western/global influences in the various facets of their music, including dance, fashion, and iconography.

Let's talk about their Outfit. Yung ibang naguguluhan sa styling, what they are wearing actually has historical references too. Yung cowboy, farmer, laborer look pays homage to FILIPINO MANONGS who were the first generation of Filipino immigrants to arrive, en masse, to the United States. They were lured promising wealth pero they were discriminated and were paid the lowest wage.

The MV has a lot of references to the St. Louis World Fair. This exposition in 1904 used people across the world, especially the Indigenous and colored people, to form a "human zoo". This exhibition was led by the Americans to display their power and superiority. People who are included in the "human zoo" are forced to repeatedly perform their primitive ways of living to entertain the people who come to see the exhibit.
Many parts of the MV showed what happened in the St. Louis Word Fair, this includes:
(1) One member of the group bites a stuffed dog animal. This shocked people in white jumpsuits. This depicts what happened in the exhibit before. The Igorots were forced to perform their practices on a daily basis for the live show. With this, the American audience finds this gross and has a negative perspective of the Igorots.
(2) There was a scene where Mo, a member of the group, was standing beside the face painting background, portraying that he was in the lowest bracket. This depicts racism among the colored people. In the St. Louis World Fair, racism is also rampant as most people, if not all, that are used in the "human zoo" are colored people. This shows that Americans objectify these people and treat them as the lowest bracket of the chain.
(3) A scene where publication news about the members was published. This also depicts what happened at the St. Louis World Fair. Publications about the "human zoo" were scattered across the world. It is not to publicize the primitive ways of living of the people in a "human zoo" but rather to let the world know that the Americans have great power over their colonies and are superior.

Viva is really doing well. They're getting close to their potential. The fusion of traditional music with the modern. And then the sound of the current pinoy pop is there as well. Include the use of our different languages. It was a good thing that kpop actually came into our country or we'll be so against the idea of hearing other Philippine languages because some of us don't understand it. But we are starting to accept it and it's great. This paves the way for further mainstreaming regional music. It's beautiful.
Not to mention the outfits are starting to fit into the colors of each shot. I know we have so many beautiful textile patterns but it would be nice to mute it a bit to highlight them better. The visual shapes are still pretty crowded and heavy. And I know they wanted to show Filipino sceneries and architectures as well but I think they could play it up more for better appreciation. Also further play on lighting I guess. The MV is already really good tbh but this is just for future reference. There's still more we could showcase and I am really looking forward to it.

The MV is about the racism and discrimination that our fellow Filipino experienced during American colonization. The St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904 was an international exhibition in Missouri. Mga Filipino ang ilan sa mga ineexhibit doon, particularly mga Filipino ethnic tribe katulad ng mga Igorot, aeta, etc. Human Zoo kung baga. Kung titingnan mo sa MV, may part na nakagapos sila kasi ganon yung ginagawa ng mga American sa mga Filipino na nandoon sa Zoo. Parang hayop yung turing nila sa mga kapwa Filipino natin. Sadly most of the Filipinos doesn't know about it. Halos sambahin na nga ng ibang Filipino yung mga Amerikano ngayon eh.

Yung part ni Gami na kinagat niya yung stuffed dog is a nudge to what happened during the Human Zoo expo, where ethnic tribes are portrayed as savages who killed dogs for their consumption. And unfortunately, they are asked to do it everyday! For the sake of the show!!!

I was introduced to this song in a college course I am taking up this semester. In our discussion, we were introduced to the story of Antero and their experiences during the 1904 World's Fair. The music video actually portrays a lot from Antero's story. The men in white suits is a symbolism to the Americans trying to "save" the Filipinos whom they think needs to be civilized. The dog-eating practice. It was also portrayed in the video how Filipinos were exhibited and displayed like zoo animals for the American populace. Lastly, the MV also portrayed the Filipino's perception of the American Dream towards the end of the MV. It is interesting that Filipino art in the form of music and visuals portray these historical and cultural aspects that our important in tracing our upbringing as Filipinos.

Trivia: Mo is half black. (Sya yung nakatayo sa may background na parang face drawings). TRIVIA: Did you know those outfits are based on history as well? Modernized version sya depicting Philippine warriors and war stories. Halimbawa, ung shorts terno po ay modernized version ng outfit ni DATU BULON. Even the gold sash they're wearing at the end ay hango sa sash sa UP pag nagtatapos(graduation). Symbolizing pagtatapos ng pang aapi sa mga Pilipino.
