Duke Fakir you not only are an incredible entertainer you are a lovely human & a gentleman. Your love of music, your wife, family, friends, Motown and fans we know is heartfelt. That's the kind of man you are. It was 1967 and the Four Tops were performing at The Coconut Grove in Los Angeles. 2 of my friends and myself met up with another gal who knew one of the Tops. We watched both of your shows that night and in between went to the Tops' suite at the Grove to watch The Tonight Show that you all filmed earlier that day. Nice memory watching you sing both in person and sitting with you all to watch the Four Tops also sing on TV in the same evening. That had to be a cool thing for you guys. Later that night after the show we all went to sit and hang out awhile in one of the motel rooms your group rented in Hollywood along with others in your entourage. It got to be really late and it sure was time for everyone to call it a night but somehow I lost track of my 2 friends & my ride back home. I had no idea where they were at. Earlier there was an invite to go to the Valley the next night for a pool party. I was 21 and only been in CA months and it was already a long night. Everyone was tired. I just wanted to get back to my apt. in LBC & sleep. Seems like you left the partiers earlier...that didn't seem like your thing. Being the gentleman you are said to me first don't be surprised if that Valley party turns into a skinny dip pool party. I think you knew that would not be something I wanted to be at. I ended up sleeping on the couch of one of your roadies with one eye opened. Looking like an embarrassed wrinkled mess as I went to breakfast with him, Levi & some other person. Levi took me to LAX to catch a taxi back to Long Beach (I took a bus). I had my friends panicky pounding on my door when I got home to see if by chance I was alive & found my way back from L.A. The funny thing many years later the Four Tops were performing at a big Officers Club event in Florida and my same dear friend who I was with during the Four Tops evening was now the coordinator of events in Florida for the military. She spoke to you guys and one of you signed an autographed photo for me saying Where Have You Been Since 1967? We've Been Looking For You." HA HA Love it! This interview was wonderful and interesting. Again your gratefulness, love of music and how it changed your life plus your same kind, bright spirit shines through. Thank You.
Great interview by this lady. I knew this would probably be a good one because the British really love r&b music. Wish an American interviewer would take the interest she has shown.
@@Ben_dover1828 Yes, true. But I am getting a negative vibe from you. Maybe it doesn't resonate with you, but that's okay. Everybody doesn't like the same things. So I guess you have to have been there, and lived then. I heard The Four Tops the very first time with "Baby, I Need Your Loving" in 1964. I was 10 years old. The Tops were a part of grammar school, high school and beyond. . So for me, the death of Abdul Kareem "Duke" is much too soon, even at 88. He was "The Keeper of The Castle," his group had a supernatural beginning; one that made them brothers. The group lasted 44 years. Rest In Love Abdul Kareem "Duke" Fakir.
RIP DUKE 🪦 🗣️🎶🎼🎵
Your contribution to mankind will be indelibly engraved in the annals throughout all of history!!
