@@hiyascoob5969 while I agree with you, consider this banger of a game is made by just one developer. To put out such a quality game (albeit with its limitations) by himself is quite an achievement entire teams of developers haven't been able to do for multiple reasons.
@@hiyascoob5969 this footage is literally early access, when the game gets to its next stage, it will definitely be a lot more polished. i don't think you have any idea how early in stages of development this game is
@@hiyascoob5969 also, it's coming out in early access. Most AAA titles we're comparing it to, like Total War, are full releases. The single dev has already suggested cavalry and ammo are things coming down the road, maybe larger armies might be too.
@@hiyascoob5969 It is a period-set city-builder (or rather village/town-builder) in the first place, as the developer says himself, and the battles are an addition to that. It is not the main purpose of the game to do battles. It is not meant to compete or compare with the Total War series, also because it plays on a much smaller scale: one village, maybe a small town with a few hundred to one thousand inhabitants of which you are the lord. This is not on some grand level, where you are the king or emperor of a whole country or empire macro-managing. Here you get to choose per house where you want it to be build, instead of just looking at a map of whole regions.
damn this looks good and im really suprised that ai can actually ambush and do some nice flanking manouvers! i hope in full version u can bring more than 6 units tho
In the beginning you say that in early access, you can only bring 6 units into battle. That is not entirely true, though. You can recruit one unit of retinue with a size of up to 24 guys PER territory conquered, as long as you build a manor with a garrison tower there. (There's currently a bug that lets you build more than 1 garrison tower and make your retinue thus much bigger than intended, but you can disregard that, it will probably be patched) So you have four territories, for instance, then you can have 4 retinues. In addition to that, 5 militia units. And then on top of that, you can recruit mercenary companies.
Don't claim territories when you get challenged or the enemy will turn up with an army for each territory that is being challenged. Learned the hard way when i tried to challenge 2 territories after the ai tried to claim one of mine. They came at the battle site with 20 units!!!! I had only 6 lol
@@Selkath_Tholotian Idk about that man, most medieval battles were of similar size, especially considering we're playing as a baron. Barons never had access to thousands of troops.
Is there any mechanic that gives you some kind of Intel on the size of the army the AI will field? I’m having a hard time determining how money to invest in an army
I prefer to put melee units in columns 3-4 units wide, evenly distributed in front of the line of archers. In this case, ideally, the archers do not need to move anywhere - and they shoot all the time. If the enemies want to pass between the columns to the archers - you order the nearest column to simply attack the flank and the archers get an ideal position for shooting. Even better - if you attack with two columns from two sides - then the enemies immediately run. And yes, with such a battle tactic, spearmen are not very suitable. Their main bonus-counteraction to charge-often does not work, because the AI will not attack spearmen in a defense stance but will try to go around them so that the spearmen themselves will have to attack. All-around infantry with sidearms and small shields is best suited for such tactics. Retinues also stand in the first line.
Found a little exploit how to go above 6 units. Before building second manor, reach the cap of 6 units, when you build second manor in new territory, you” l get second retinue unit DO NOT DISBAND any militia and you’ll get 7 units and every additional with every new manor. If you disband you wont be able to get new units as retinues count to the total cap of 6.
Looks like they're not too damaging gameplay-wise, but they might be easy to abuse once people get more familiar with the mechanics. Then again, cavalry might shake that up if the AI can use them effectively.
@@FightMeTotalWar It would be epic if it did, shock cav, horse archers, crusades, camel shock cav, viking units, spice trade, eastern factions, pike units, chariots? Yes but the unit sizes do get slightly larger than the video, I’ve seen some battles where the general unit had 18 and both the infantry units had 36 as well, so this is still not quite max size for an army. It is under it by about 40 men.
Made by one guy basically lol just look at those archer animations, actually drawing like real longbowmen, memewhile in modern TW they can't even be arsed to have proper crossbow or gun reloading animations
I cannot win last battle, claimed, everything accept one last territory, I go with 2 fully stacked personal retinues, 2 pikes with helmets and plates from town with 88% approval, 2 spars, and second sons merceneries that have 1 light and one heavy archer unit… and I just lost for like 10th time, keep save scuming, but there is just to many of them :) he outnumbers me 2:1, i guess I’ll build 2-3 more manors in other lands to bring 3 more personal retinues… unless 6 units cap includes them as well, then I don’t really know what to do, couse i can get only one mercs band.
Even with this fantastic early access some people will find something to wine about 😂 Do they even grasp the concept of early access?
