- This session discusses the following issues in the beginning of the last chapter of the Letter to the Hebrews:
• The contention shared by many interpreters that the entire chapter contains supplementary content added later by a different author.
• What the author intended by the word philoxenia, which is usually translated hospitality.
• Why he justified philoxenia by the possible presence of angels.
• The meaning of “in the body” in Hebrews 13:3 (“Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them; and those who are ill-treated, since you also are in the body.”).
• The relationship between love of neighbor, love of other, and sexual immorality and love of money.
• His view of idolatry as a lack of trust of God and of God’s provision.
• His view of the presence of the Lord (“what can man do to me?”, from Psalm 118) even in the midst of hardship and persecution.
