Doesn't have to be revolutionary - it just has to be brought to and forced upon on your school. If Bill brings that to UNC, that's a win for UNC. Sometimes it takes a big brand (BB) to force your school into action on something that is already out there.
If selling the brand is still a major component, I guess it's a good thing UNC has a sellable brand. UNC may not be "Bama" in terms of fball brands, but both Davis and Brown recruited double digit 4-5* classes based on UNC's brand combined with their inherent HC credibility names. UNC brand + high profile HC = appealing destination. Only thing UNC needs to add to the success formula is having close to market value NIL $$ coffers and elite $$ for staff. Nothing guarantees success but UNC is one of the few "brands" capable of elevating its program to CFP contender provided they get out of their own way in terms of commitment level.
I think you answered your own question. UNC had people in the building that could instill a professional style program but likely weren't given the resources to do so. Whether Belichick succeeds or fails, I think this signals a commitment to football from the school that we haven't seen before
The thing about most coaching jobs no matter the level: you're not going to know the unique problems associated with each one until you're on the ground in those positions. Which means: without total control of the program like Nick Saban had when he took over at Alabama, it's destined to fail.....
@@Utahtruckguy The assumption that literally any of this matters with NIL is hilarious, you know when a player says 'I just felt this was the best fit for me' or 'I like how this coach has produced X players that have gone to the next level' what they really mean is 'Their NIL offer was better' but they can't say that, they gotta pretend. His career in CFB will be predicated on one thing and one thing only... NIL.

Lets be real, most college coaches suck, the"good" ones recruit well and have money backing them, sark, riley, and at times smart show via their teams inconsistent play that coaching is at a low, college ball is about the willies and Joe's not x and o's so if you're unc and you cant compete financially you have to out coach teams like vandy, or boise did this year, we will see if bill can still do that
How about Bill is the goat of nfl coaches with 6 superbowl titles( 8 all together). Mack Brown lost is Mojo in that rose bowl game when Alabama beat him
Belichick would have been fired at New England years ago if not for Tom Brady. He tried to trade Brady when they missed a Super Bowl and Robert Kraft stopped it. Brady won a few more Super Bowls for New England after Kraft stopped it. Belichick is an idiot and doesn't know how to coach. Brady won a Super Bowl without Belichick. Brady won those Super Bowls not Belichick.
Did this dude REALLY just talk about the winningest “cultures” while saying Bill may have issues with that? Anyone want to show him where the Patriots were drafting for the past few decades? Josh, normally love your stuff, but your Mack Brown bias is showing. Mack had lost his grip on the culture and what was needed to win. He established zero identity, discipline or toughness during his tenure. He kept coaches around that had no business being on his staff after being told that by multiple people with long résumés in the college ranks. He failed at so many turns to develop what he once had and did so because he lost his standards and he isn’t the kind of X’s and O’s coach that can overcome not having the absolute BEST coaching staff. Do you REALLY think Bill is the kind that won’t DEMAND a culture of accountability and toughness? Do you really believe he couldn’t out X’s and O’s Mack with his eyes closed? This is a hire about UNC finally making the commitment they have never been willing to make and holding a standard they have never been willing to hold. And yes, contrary to your underselling, there are lots of new structures and hires being brought on board for Bill that we have NEVER had. Maybe they aren’t revolutionary at Alabama, but it is at North Carolina and ol’ Mack either couldn’t or didn’t make those very same changes.
Saving this for sure. Bill ain't Mack. Mack was a grandfather with a ahh shucks mentality. Bill is totally opposite. Raleigh is about to explode over this and I'm loving it. UNC about to be everyone's superbowl 😤😤😤
@ bill hasn’t drafted a decent player in 10 years and was relying on the veterans from his last years being competent at roster management to keep him going until they all left or retired. He’s never coached in college, has never coached in an environment where players can tell him to fuck off and transfer and he has nothing he can do about it. Mack is wired like a successful coach in 2024. Bill is a dinosaur nobody in the nfl wanted.
@@MinisterManDan you mean the Atlanta falcons: the team that choked away a 34 point lead to this man didn't want him. Bill knows defense. Something UNC has been struggling with for several years. @@JasonCoe-lp4fm the falcons are the only team that interviewed Bill. Nobody else was willing to even pretend he could be their coach. Nobody with an opening this offseason has any interest, or Bill would be taking that job instead of UNC. The league is telling you loud and clear that they think Bill is washed up. I don’t doubt Bill knows a lot more about defense than I do. There’s also next to zero chance he’s going to be able to coach 18-22 year olds to understand his complicated schemes. Bill relied on veteran defenders to make his defenses work, and his secret sauce in the nfl was his ability to come up with unique, bespoke game plans every week perfectly tailored to the opponent. Well that skill is meaningless in college because none of his own players will be able to execute any of that. We saw a preview of what Bill at UNC will look like a couple of decades ago when Charlie Weis ran Notre Dame into the ground with overly complex offenses that took years for his players to grasp, and that was before insta transfers. You cannot take a guy and teach him your complex schemes over 4 years, you have one offseason and if the kid doesn’t feel comfortable he transfers. And if you think Deion and Belichick resonate the same way with 18 year old African American kids, good luck buddy
@MinisterManDan damn bro, you gotta type an essay to make a point. And bringing up the race card 😬. Deion Sanders is younger than Bill, but Deion ain't no spring chicken. And like I said, he never coached a college game just like Bill. Also, there's no guarantee if UNC would've went younger, it would've worked out. The Tulane coach already said he's staying put. The Georgia defensive coordinator is in the college football playoffs right now. Like what does UNC have to lose at this point. Go big or go home. I just love hearing the panic and anger in your voice🥱😤
Lets see, would my kid (or yours, or any stars) play for a man described like this: cranky, surly, unapproachable, stuck in his ways, 72, possibly outdated, years removed from best run.... This seems like an absolute DISASTER from both parties. This would be the Uno reverse of Urban going to NFL. Dont do it Bill. Dont do it UNC. Lord help us all!
Will be the ultimate collapse of UNC football. Worse than it is now, which is saying a lot. Worse than it was before they looked to Mack. Worse than it was once Denny Crum left. Brand??? It is indefensible how UNC can do this. INSANE. He would be the OLDEST coach in D1 football. His peers, 69 year old Kirk Ferentz at Iowa and Don Brown at UMASS. Average age of a NCAA head coach = 50. Id love to read the contract between him and his young buck 😂
He'd be terrible at recruiting, unless it's all about tossing NIL money around.
Is UNC a football program or a retirement home for washed coaches?
"I don't know if it's true, but.." Yeah, credibility shot. Your arrogance is going to be what brings you to your knees. He'll bring in talent and discipline and won't cater to the egos.
I bet scooby doo will be the next hc for maryland and captain hook will be coaching at utsa
Makes sense he wants to coach college football, after all, he is dating a college student :)
I have the strangest feeling this is all a misnomer and we'll see Steve Wilks in Tarheel gear as HC in two weeks
Got some aged fine wine for ya
@@PERC_ANGLE.96yup lol
Please go to ATLANTA!
They didn't want him
Yeah like he didnt teach Saban anything
Josh been a hater on bill and unc since this got announced.
Getting back into dating
Don't do it bill.......please .......you a ball coach not ababysitter...........forget your son.............do you !!!!
Bill Belichick To North Carolina wont work . if he cant relate to the NFL players now , how can he relate the these kids from the inner city smh. Make it make sense . the moment he bench a 4/5 star recruit they will transfer and hope in the portal . The man aint won nothing since Brady . Come on now .
he is 73 years old, bad idea 😂
Lets be real, most college coaches suck, the"good" ones recruit well and have money backing them, sark, riley, and at times smart show via their teams inconsistent play that coaching is at a low, college ball is about the willies and Joe's not x and o's so if you're unc and you cant compete financially you have to out coach teams like vandy, or boise did this year, we will see if bill can still do that
This dude sounds like a hater!
It makes no sense that you’d fire Mack Brown to hire this guy. They are both fossils
How about Bill is the goat of nfl coaches with 6 superbowl titles( 8 all together). Mack Brown lost is Mojo in that rose bowl game when Alabama beat him
Homie sounds like more of a hater than Jason Whitlock.
He signed lol
Josh is an idiot ..why. Because he always wrong on everything.
Absolute and utter failure! No chance this relic will connect with 18 year old kids. Paperwork pop guarantee!
North Carolina
where washed HCs go to retire
North Carolina, where you take off your shirt and twirl it over your head.........
Awesome hire
College minor leagues for NFL
This video is pointless. There's no new insight or take that isn't out there already. You're just rambling in a different way.
Bill wants to coach at a university so he can be near his girlfriend. lol jk
Sound like a hater
Josh with all respect you full of shit lol
Nc state is gonna drop 50 on him in the first rivalry game against unc and he’s going to have no idea what hit him.
And it's not going to be a quick fix. But nobody thought Deion Sanders could do what he has done at Colorado, and this is his first college coaching job. I just love all the hate and jealousy coming out of Raleigh right now. You thought the fight after the game in chapel hill was something. Just wait till we roll up into Raleigh. These receipts are about to come in handy like a lottery ticket. Bring it moo boys
Sounds a lot like Alabama Nick Saban. I know, because I played for LSU Nick Saban.
I mean there are some weird ass people at UNC, but good god is the athletic dept run be a 14 year old enthralled with the "I got to have it" Pokemon card?
So you do realize it take time to build a program. There's no guarantee if UNC would've gotten a younger coach, it would've worked out.
Josh respectfully Stfup and i mean that respectfully
He talks alot without making any points.
@@ericguerra7319 I swear And I’m not unc fan but Hiring Bill isn’t just huge from an Xs and Os standpoint. They have declared that they are finally willing to put the money into football that it will take to be successful. This could be a massive turning point for that program.
@@92rique26 They poured in resources during Brown 1.0
He made a lot of good points. Unc athletics gets in its own way (too many cooks in the kitchen), bill in unproven in College, What Bill is proposing is already been done. Look at ASU when they Hired Herm Edwards.. Look how that turned out (ncaa violations). College isnstill different than NFL and it won’t fly at unc.
