I like the way you presented your information. I got my Presto Electric Canner yesterday and canned 13 pints of corn. I enjoyed the ease. I was little concerned about some of the negative comments I have seen about food safety. I have a glass top stove and was worried about it cracking even though it I had used it for 9 years without incident. I sometimes get so confused with so much information.
In cleaning my canner for the first time use, the “positioning tab” on the lid, fell right off! Do you know if it is safe to can without it? I cannot find the answer anywhere! If you could help I would appreciate it!
I have been using my new canner for 2 weeks, absolutely love it. I want to pressure can smaller jars, but I think they may be below the water level. Can I still pressure can the jars if they are below the water level? I can't find the information anywhere. Thanks fir the help
Do you know if it's possible to bypass the jar warmer cycle if jars are being cold packed?? I swear, I thought I saw this somewhere, but now I can't find it.
Hold the "play" button down for a few seconds. I don't even have one of these to give any other details but just watched a short clip showing this. For future reference I suppose if someone else is looking.
My question would be, for the sake of saving time, could you just pre warm jars in the oven or even do it without that step? I feel like if you put cold meet in a warm jar it'll cool the jar down anyways. Just curious. Really considering purchasing this. Seems like portability for canning our Salmon would be great
you have to go through the warm jar faze… but what you can do is already jar your jars up and put them in and once it says the warm phases then you lift the lid and then you put it back on and then you start the process
Great introduction to what is a completely new idea in canning. I would imagine that they have had to develop an electric canner as governments plan to phase out fossil fuels around the world. The best feature to me is the alert as to when the venting has reached the end and it is time to add the weight as such. This is the hardest part for new canners I think, I am always doubting that I saw a constant plume of steam - I don't know how many times I have reset the timer. This canner saves any newbies from all that stress. Another plus is not having your stove top/ oven (sterilising jars) tied up in the process. It appears that the unit isn't too hot (underneath) to sit on a counter either. Thank you, you covered it all really well!
Mine will be here Saturday and I'll be canning water to test it out Saturday night. Thanks for the info. Looking foreward to canning without heating up the whole kitchen.
What about the regulator. Instructions say take it off cover till venting is done. Do you do this or do you just put on pointing to vent word. Love the child and brain loss happens to me all the time 😁 I thought for sure ad said it would hold six quarts but nope just five not a good value for it’s price and time it takes but my stove is electric flat top so no choices there for us
I’ve done both! I don’t think it much matters. My guess would be they write that way so that it doesn’t get accidentally left in sealed mode that would prevent that important venting timeframe.
I just ordered mine and it was delivered last Friday but havnt used it yet but very soon. I bought this simply because I always seem to have more jars than my All American holds in one batch and being able to run multiple canners without having to stand over both at the same time is a major time saver for me. Plus having the Presto frees up my stove top.
Thank you for this tutorial, you've lessened my feelings of intimidation. Might you have any advice for canning meat with this unit? I'm a canning newbie, and while I realize one generally begins with water bath canning acidic foods, meat is what I have to can.
@@XDithy13, thank you! I actually jumped in and canned 5 lbs. of [pre-cooked] ground beef that same day, and another 10 lbs. last night bought on sale. Probably dangerously ambitious for my first-ever canning experience, but all cans seem to have sealed! And again, I have your tutorial to thank, you made the device itself seem usable when the instruction manual had the opposite effect for me. Thank you again!
@@XDithy13 thats good news! Thank you! I am trying to decide between this one, nesco, carey. Seems some have had various warranty issues. So its nice to also hear from people who are NOT having problems too :) they DO exist! Lol
I see you aren’t using Ball or Kerr lids. Which ones are you using and are they working well for you? Because I can’t find any Ball or Kerrs in my area. Thanks!
Question: do you have hard water? If yes do you use it in the jars to bring them up to warm/boil before filling with broth? Or would you say to use filtered water only? Thanks
That’s a really good question. I’m not actually sure what the “right” answer is for hard water vs soft water. But I do know that we have rather acidic (and soft) well water. And pH is fairly important in canning. I think if you’re worried about it, I would error on the side of using filtered water. But I bet there’s info about it on the USDA’s safe food preservation website.
I didn’t do anything to prepare the jars except wash and fill them with water. Then you place them in the canner and it warms them for you! Then if I’m raw packing something like green beans, I just use the already heated water in the jars. But in this case, I had to empty the water and fill with stock.
I don't understand why the jars aren't heated with boiling water to warm up. Seems like alot of wasted electricity and time ...filling , heating, pouring and refilling. I dont know...just asking
I can understand why you might think that, but the warming cycle doesn’t use any more energy than boiling water on the stove or in a kettle would. Additionally, I’m free to keep working on my food that I’m preparing while the warming cycle is running. It only takes about 15 minutes so if I’m in a hurry, I don’t have to wait long. Or if I’m still busy with food prep, I can just leave them sitting in there and they will stay at that optimum temperature! It definitely has its pros and cons, but the warming cycle is something I feel like I’ve been able to mitigate fairly easily.
I found the jar warming process and then filling one at a time excruciatingly slow and unnecessary. Although the ability to walk away once canning starts is wonderful, I'd rather fill my jars all at once and have them ready to go all together. I hope to find away to bypass that or at least put full jars in the warming process.
New subbie 👍. I've ordered the presto electric canner- mine is to arrive tomorrow- yay! Thanks for the great informative video! I also plan to can chicken bone broth, as well as some chicken, and tomato sauce... We'll see how it goes 🤗

where did you find recipe for the broth? could you please share. I just started using my canner. your videos was well done. Thank You
Can you add a little vinegar in the water
I see some take the regulator off during the warming stage, fill jars, put in, wait for to say put regulator on?
Thank you! I’ve been thinking about buying this one. Will it also work for 1/2 pints?

Thank you! The counter stays quite cool (we just have Formica and it’s never made any marks) The outside of the canner does get warm, but not hot.
i know it's kind of off topic but does anybody know of a good website to stream new tv shows online ?

Thanks for making this video. Do you have to "de-bubble" the jars before the processing?
Thank you!
Yes, prepare your jars the same way and wipe your rims.
Oh when cooling to you vent it?
Does it automatically shut off when done?
Yes but you have to wait for it to cool down which takes time
