I notice that a lot. The sopranos was more fun with Tony as a Capo. Power was better when ghost was selling drugs, scarface was better when Tony was working under frank. The sims and minecraft are most fun when you're starting out
Agreee. Everything started going to shit when Jax tried to make things better. He might have been a bastard in every way, but Clay was the right man for the job.
The actor who portrays Dion in this segment is former heavyweight boxing champion, Michael Bentt, who knocked out Tommy Morrison in the first round to win his title.
1:52 Clay taking part in Bobby teasing Juice with lovemaking music always has me dead 😂😭😭 shows he can joke with his crew even when he’s giving out orders as the boss
One of the best parts of the show was how much generally darker everything got as the seasons progressed. The most obvious progression is Jax's descent into being pretty much an outright villain but the world that the characters inhabit seems to lose its charm as things develop. Here, the crew's setting up Juice for a prison rape half as a scheme and half as a joke, but despite ribbing him about it none of them genuinely think anything bad's going to happen to him. By the end of the series Juice has been actually raped dozens of times, to the point where it doesn't even seem to bother him that much anymore. All the things that seemed romantic or enjoyable about the SAMCRO lifestyle start to erode as the layers of symbolism and brotherhood that surround the characters underneath get peeled away by compounding loss and betrayal. The mythical "biker outlaw" persona that binds them all gets stripped and stripped until you see that by the end they're really just gangsters, not much better than the 9ners or the Cartel. Jax's self-sacrifice at the end is in a sense an act of redemption for the club in its entirety, not just himself. In his final act, he becomes the thing they were all pretending to be the entire time, and gives the rest of the club the chance to return to some semblance of the values it was built on. Definitely worth it to rewatch the earlier seasons! There's quite a lot of foreshadowing you wouldn't expect. If nothing else, the contrast between season 1 and season 7 is just astounding.
I don’t disagree but it made it very difficult for me to want to spend anymore time in this world or with these people so I stopped watching and only saw an episode here and there.
Good overview, I always noticed the first seasons were "fun" outlaw seasons - small scuffles, police chases, going after the carnival folk for a crime. Then it ended up as pure bloodshed, torture etc. Great progression indeed
This was the peak of the show and so tragic how the fates of each of these characters play out at the end of show… storytelling and character development at it best with this show - 2nd to The Shield
Aren't all the respected ones family dramas & sitcoms now? The writers ensure a story arc, melodrama and resolution, similar conventions to a 1950s film of Reader's Digest-type schmaltz. Family strife, break-ups, characters made outcasts, problems paying the mortgage or worries over popularity, just like in the Brady Bunch. Except in Sopranos, SOA, Breaking Bad, etc, the family squabbles can leak damaging stuff leaking to the FBI or lead to an outcast being taken out. Leavened with comedy you won't find in Cheers or All In The Family. Dark humour about body disposal, manipulating an opportunity (above), respecting the hierarchy, how to hide income, etc. Elements of successful TV show- consistent narrative, quirky characters, shocks, problems needing solving, conflict, suspense, humour, exposition, resolution. From F Troop to Seinfeld to Twin Peaks to SOA.

they killed more people than The Green River Killer…totally lost the biker creed…i changed the channel halfway through the series
Jax had to be up there with the “best” serial killers. It felt like he killed someone every other episode.
