  • I review Rammstein's first album in forever: "Untitled." And ask if the the German powerhouse is the AC/DC of industrial music.

AC/DC have kept their style since Back In Black and haven't really brought anything new to the table, so no new songs stand out. But Rammstein have evolved a lot since Herzeleid and have made songs that sound unique even on the latest record (Deutschland and Puppe, for example). Also, their discography is much more consistent than AC/DC's.

    I don't subscribe to your AC/DC theory.
Rammstein's interpretation of industrial is very German. It is no coincidence that they often reference Kraftwerk and call the former EBM-Band Oomph! their most direct influemce. And they are more "Neue Deutsche Härte" than Industrial-Metal - which means they are more Goth and Electronic than Metal. think Rammstein has musically a pretty broad range (in your album review you implied it yourself) from French Chanson to Piano Ballads -plus they have a lot of hit songs: Sonne, Engel, Amerika, Deutschland, Mein Herz brennt etc. but they have no cult-Albums like AC/DC.
Both bands have in common that they are by far bigger than their genre of music.
BTW: I teally enjoyed your video, you are awesome - witty, charming and a Skinny Puppy-Fan.
PPS: One key to the phenomenon Rammstein are the unique lyrics of Till Lindemann.

Hello greetings from Mexico; I have been a Rammstein fan recently, I can also say that I have been very fond of Gothic since I was a child. I like your channel, it's what I've been looking for.

There are so many German words I've learned, but waaaay back when I got Sehnsucht I remember the first thing I looked up was speil mit mir lol play with me
On the slow ass computers in my high school library. (Hi from New Brunswick 🇨🇦)
My boyfriend is really into 3teeth by the way.

You are awesome, Lisa! I would love to hear your thoughts on 2010s goth including Lebanon Hanover, Drab Majesty, She Past Away, Angels of Liberty, etc.. 😘

My German is pretty bad, I've struggled with it as student, but Rammstein have basically been my biggest help learning anything - just by wanting to translate their lyrics, and also Till pronouncing every word so loud and clear (but maybe having too theatrical pronunciation).
Some vocabulary I've learned from them though. lol

I agree that Rammstein are the AC/DC of industrial music. I also thought the same thing about hearing their tracks on the "Lost Highway" soundtrack for the first time in 1997. I thought they were a joke band too. The more that I listened to those tracks, the more I liked them. I soon sought out their albums and really enjoyed them. Sure, they are waaaaaaay over the top but they are a lot of fun. I don't think they are an important band in the creative sense but they are important for being a gateway band for fans of industrial music. Hopefully, some of their fans are looking to find more industrial music and discovering older bands that were instrumental in creating the industrial music scene.

Looking at Auslander's video, I think the sex tourism theory fits better than the Tinder one. I suppose that in terms of Industrial, Rammstein are very much an AC/DC type band. You more or less know what you're gonna get, but it's strange, dark, sexual and uncomfortable, as Industrial tends to be. I'm definitely gonna have to check out that Converge side project! Sounds right up my alley!

Hi, from Brazil. I love rammstein and others german gothic industrial bands- like einstürzende Neubauten, Lacrimosa, goethes erben. I'm here because I love you in banger TV. When I found out you are related to goth scene I needed to find out your UA-cam account.

Well, im not a fan or listener of Rammstein, but i do like "Sonne"...I really tried to get the vibe with their music, but i just couldn't.
About the german words i've learned...i know a few words, most of them from listening to Goethes Erben (I think).
Nice video Liisa, maybe you could do a review from a very loved record for you...that would be very intimate.

I agree that some openers are great! I saw 45 Grave a while back ago and the first band was dope! None of the other bands (other then 45 Grave of course) could compare!

I like the album but it is not the best i heard this year. Which is kind of sad because they are one of my favorite bands of all time. My life change because of them sooo waiting for this album to be good was a hard hit for me to found out, it is not the best they could. It is not the worst album of them but it is on my #6 on my list of there albums.

It's okay for Americans to call them Remmsteen, the german word is Raammstain anyway.
