I thought that the model was a photograph and freaked out when I saw him blink! No seriously, I have decided that blocking out the large shapes first is the way to go for me. Thank you for the lesson.
Hello Cuong...I participated in a 3-day workshop with you at IAPS 2017...it was a fantastic workshop! Thank you! I just viewed your latest video: Blocking-In a Portrait in 3/4 View...and it is AMAZING!! When I view it, I feel as though I am back in the workshop with you! The turning point for me...is the speaking that you give to the video. You sound very relaxed and everything you say is perfect! The videos with subtitles are well done also...but this one is much richer because of what you say as you work. Many thanks...I shall be exploring your Patreon page! :)
Not only was this relaxing to watch, but also very inspiring and helpful. Thank you, I will follow your advice right away and pick up my pencil to draw ♥
Hey Cuong Nguyen. To be honest, many years I was a but sceptical about this measuring technique, because I've thought it's not gonna work for me. But now even I'm just trying to do it in my head, it's really working cause you still can a bit move these lines of top and the bottom of the face. I thought it has to be exactly same weight but I was so stupid :D cause these lines are just a base of the face. Now, I'm a lot wiser and more understanding. Thank you so much. Love your work. I'm proud!!!
Dear Cuong Nguyen, Thank you for a most wonderful demonstration using the traditional method. I personally find, after many years of errors, it is better for me to Not put in the centre line at all, or at least, After I am convinced the outside shape is correct. Once this is found, the features will naturally fall into place. Every success to you.
Thank you Anh Cuong. You are very soft spoken so it is hard to hear you and having the soothing music in the background doesn't help. Can you either speak louder or have a microphone. I use headphones to hear you better but then when there is an ad, the difference in volume is deafening and my ears hurt during the ad so I removed the headphones until I can skip the ad. I love portraits and that is my goal. I have learned so much from you and I've only just watched you. You are an amazing person and teacher; you really do step by step and explain what you are doing and the importance of the step. I will take the advices you have given of 100 each of the eyes, nose, mouth and ears. I do have a skull that I was going to return but I will keep and practice with that. Well I will first start with the skull at different angles and lightings before I do the other features. Cam on Anh nhieu lam! Please do something with the volume!
Cuong, this is Amazing! I was wondering if you can tell me about good drawing, painting books to study, or any advice , I love drawing and painting but I am trying to learn oil painting realistic oil painting so if you can help me I would really appreciate it
To start with: I learned a lot. Each artist has his or her own way to draw a portrait, and I try to pick up as much as possible by watching many artists draw in their own way, apart from the classes I am taking. I hope you don't mind, but have some remarks that did not seem quite right when comparing to the model. 1 The model's beard, at the right hand side, seemed drawn too square at the top, on the chin. The beard grew a bit more over the chin, not in a straight line as was drawn. 2. The cap appeared to be drawn too high, imo, compared to the image of the model. 3 The nose appeared to be different, it seemed straighter from my viewpoint, but that could have been the way the face was lit. I hope it's okay to make these remarks. I have been learning to draw portraits for a while, and am getting very observant of every detail. That helps me too, to be observant, it is not to be critical.
