  • One of our most requested videos was for a behind the scenes (BTS) walk through on how to run our synchronized Christmas light show so here is a behind the scenes look at all the elements, props, controllers and lights that make up our Christmas light display. All timestamps of topics are below if you want to jump around. Hope this helps you get started in this awesome hobby of ours or gives some more ideas on how to do things! We do not claim to be experts, just a couple people who like Christmas lights and hoping our hobby brings happiness to others each year. I can help answer questions or post more information as needed. Hope you enjoy!
    We posted an awesome Diagram showing how everything works together on our FB page:

    Thank you so much for doing these walkthrough videos. I imagine its useful for you as well to see and remember how you set things up in prior years/where you want to make improvements. That said, I can't even begin to describe how helpful it is for those of us who are just getting started in this hobby. This video is my holiday lights bible. I started my show last year with just a mega tree / 36" star. This year added 5 mini trees / stars, 7 arches and 5 Gilbert B Flakes on the house. Next year will be the full house.
    I would recommend looking into the 12 volt HP server power supplies for your show (ebay). I use them exclusively and you can buy a single 115V input - 12V output @ 900 watts supply for about $30. Best long term - zero issue - high output power supply out there. Cheers and keep up the great work!

Looking to start building a show for next year but don’t want to over shoot my newbie brain and end quitting before I even get started out of frustration (I tend to jump all in and take on more than I can handle). So what’s your thought on a good safe couple of props to begin with and then build on?

    • @AVeryMerryMeridian
      @AVeryMerryMeridian  2 роки тому +1

      I know the feeling! I would say most people should start with their eaves, windows, and/or house outlines. That will set a good baseline for whatever you want to grow with moving forward. After that I would start with some lawn props like mini trees, arches or whatever you think looks best for your space. After that, the sky is the limit with your imagination and budget :)

Awesome display, Thank you.

    • @AVeryMerryMeridian
      @AVeryMerryMeridian  2 роки тому

      They are not the most user friendly IF you know better. Once you have a Falcon or Kulp you would never go back as they are so much easier to work with remotely if changes are needed on your layout etc where a hard reset would be needed. We are still using them as we have them but once they die or if we need more output we upgrade as you can run more pixels per port on Falcon compared to the Alphapix. If there is nothing else you can find you can make Alphapix work as that is what we started with our first couple years too

    Are you happy with the 3" spacing on your garage matrix? 3" would definitely be a lot more affordable, but I know a lot of people go with closer spacing for more density.

    • @AVeryMerryMeridian
      @AVeryMerryMeridian  2 роки тому +3

      It all depends on what your "goal" is for the matrix and your audience viewing distance . We do lots of whole house effects and so it matches the spacing I have elsewhere for the most part so I think it blends together nicely in the display unlike when I see a p5 trying to do full house effects with the pixels it just does not blend well in my opinion. If I had to do it again I would at least do 2 inches for more resolution for video clips and pictures but the fact that my audience is 70 feet away viewing most of the time I can get away with big bold images so just more particular on what I put on it.
