- In this video we see and take a ride on the Scenic Railway, situated at Scenic World situated in the town on Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. Originally built in the 1880's to extract oil shade and coal, the railway today is a highly popular tourist attraction. With a maximum incline of 52 degrees, the railway is the worlds steepest funicular railway. The railway begins at the Scenic World building and descends 310 meters into Jamison Valley where patrons can explore the rain-forest & walking tracks.
Date: 4th February 2014.

I love that when the train is departing, they just play a boxing bell lol
I first rode on this in the 1960's when it was open to the air. A more scarier experience than the totally enclosed train. Saying that the views are stunning and well worth the ride.🐨🦘
omg SAME, late 70s for me, I was a child then, I thought I was going to not hold onto the bar for so long and let go falling over the people in front of me. They really should have more safety features on this with more things to hold onto like a rollercoaster does. Cant believe no one has had an accident on it yet. But man I was screaming like hell. I will never forget it. When kids scream on this its real screams not fake ones you see at amusement parks.
Did a tour to the blue mountains from Sydney a few years ago, it included this. What a fantastic day it was.
Wow! It had no roof or walls or floor for that matter when I rode it. It was just a metal cage and certainly no music. It's lost the danger factor that it had.
I agree. They change everything and make it less fun.
That is so tame now, haven't been on it since 1985 and back then it was a rollercoaster. I think I will enjoy this now.
Robbie Hagberg and I can get a pop up and get it done before I get there and I can go to the card and the second time I get home around till the end of my day is the best thing to do for my brother Brian he's been trying to get the car back in the morning and I will be there by then if that's ok for the money for the card and the money for me if it
Bet there wernt as many chinese back then
I'm at scenic world right now and I'm actually really nervous to go on the train , but I think it will be fun. I hope
My boys loved going on this one, such a beautiful place, thanks for sharing
I remember going on this this year, it was so fun, I went to scenic world because I was on a holiday with my cousins, and had so much fun!
this video will get 1M veiws!
Wow! Love the Scenic Railway! I have been on it a few times! The old one and the new one! :)
That is different and one of the coolest I have seen, bet thats fun!!!!!
This brings back good memories!
This railway at Katoomba is the world's steepest "passenger-carrying funicular railway", with a maximum incline of 52 degrees or 122%
Before they made it like a Disney ride it was better - open aired carriage no sides no roof. You got feeling you would fall out if you moved
Yep. I first went on the railway back in 1956 (as a 10-year old boy). It was a lot scarier then. :)
The Indiana Jones theme is a nice touch
I haven't been there for 25 years. Back then it was made of wood and rickety as fuck
The doors Opening and Closing sound on the Scenic Railway is the Boxing Bell Sound.
They tried to charge full amount even though park was closing in an hour and only 2 out of the 4 rides could be done, so we skipped all the rides. Just gonna watch a youtube video. Thanks for uploading!
that looks amazing
Difinitely a slow easy scenic ride can get nice pictures too.
Looks like a mix between a roller coaster and a train.
+TrainsOfSander Except it's not as scary and doesn't go upside down :)
yyyyytttt
That would be fun!
My first time i ride the train mix roller coaster the seats are little bit complicated. But is fun ride
I hope the cable will never break :D
Like so much of life... the new version spoils the real fun of open sides, open roof and the whole thing flexing... ah the Good Old Days!
Much scarier... and huge fun.
I have visited the Blue Mountain and the Katoomba Scenic World . It's an exciting journey in the steep train.
This looks like a fun ride, mostly I would be holding on as tightly for bear life and having a good time 🙂
When I was little, I used to hang off the bars on the ceiling on the inside.
This is located in Australia outside of Sydney. If would be nice if the video poster were thoughtful enough to explain this in the Video description. Not every knows there Katoomba or the Blue Mountains are.
Katoomba is a mountain town about 100km W of Sydney in the Blue Mountains at an elevation of about 1050m. A beautiful place well worth a visit.
Lisa Smart Might get a few flurries about the middle of next week.
That guy has the coolest job!
Great video !
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing
I had been there. It is really away some.
When you get in the rail way you hear jarasic park music bc i have been there at the back....all most crying....but it was fun i went on the sky rail only to thr top of the moutain it was fun i saw the three sisters
kaylee bug Indiana Jones not Jurassic park

kootomba raiway is really good i took before in sydney
Been there; it was AWESOME!
WOOOOOOOOAH!!!!
Super ride
Been on it many times before the upgrade
Awesome
I rode this in 2011, before this box train. I much prefer that.
WhiteCamry i did too I remember the ride being much faster aswell
And it was far more exciting when you sit in the front and look at those bending rusted rail sitting on those rotted timber sleepers.
I remember the one you are talking about too! The scenic railway has developed over the years, I believe there was a gallery showcasing all the designs of it.
cool they open like a lamborghini
Is this recorded in slow motion ? Back in the 80s was a like a rocket shooting down the steep mountain. No time to enjoy the view. This is Better .
last time i went on it my bottle feel off the train ( it had no doors back then ) and it was filled with the rain forest water that i got out of the rocks .
Nina champion .ahxar
Everyone still hangs on to the bars lol scardy cats
I would ride this instead of a Cable Car, why? Because its on rails and doesnt go up and down while swinging from side to side like a ... Cabin on a Rope.
So cool. Really wanna try it one day.
Now that's what I call a Mountain railway.
Nice 👍
Its amamzing

Does it feel like a roller coaster?
I want to journey this train
Canggi luar biasa
QUANTO E LUNDO IN PERCORSO GRAZIE E MOLTO BELLO
It's very steep
Wic place?
Ohhhhh.....how disappointing, what with that weird closed-in contraption....used ride this in the 40 and 50s....no sides...no top....those were the days for real tourism !
BIGGLES flys again Today’s tourism certainly has destroyed it.
Its like that now because more than 5 people were killed
thats a roller coaster
Super train
How does it climb that ? Where is the friction ?
The train is attached to a cable which runs up the track to a motor room at the top of the escapement. The cable is attached to a counterweight which runs down into the valley, the counterweight is a tank of water so it weighs the same as the train without the passengers. The motor is therefore only pulling the weight of the people. The train runs on a wide railway track.
I feel sorry for that attendant/driver. Having to sit there and listen to that same music clip looping all day. Feh!
I was terrified
prefer the old cooster . it had more thrill to it
Same
Great...

I admit you don't get to see the same view like you use to get on the old train back so many years ago now, their are like so many blind spots that are blocking it now. I remember when the water use to drip on the top of you in the cage any time you use to go down the cave.
the better view of the three sisters and the wind that would blow on you.
this funicular is pretty fast comparing to other funicular railway system in the world
Where is this?
Carol Hutchinson Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. 🇦🇺
It was better with the old cars before health and safety took over!
I was thinking of going but its fully enclosed now. BORING!!! With Stoopid music.
Ohh
What if i bring my 2 yrs old boy. Can i get in train?
Yes you can all ages are allowed. Trust me I live there

It isn't the worlds steepest funicular because it uses a winch system, and hasn't got a counterbalancing carriage like the new Stossbahn, which is a true funicular and the steepest in the world with 47 degrees incline. This here is just a large Incline Elevator or Lift
Sorry but the Swiss one is only 48deg while the Aussie one is 52deg. We still hold the record of the steepest passenger railway in the world. Nothing to do with funicular.
