CAREZZE SUL VELLUTO - Il rinnovo delle monture del Giro della Nobil Contrada del Bruco (trailer)

Per una contrada rinnovare le monture del giro è una catarsi, purificazione e liberazione al tempo stesso. Un vestirsi di nuovo che segna e rinnova l'identità e l'appartenenza ai propri colori.
È con grande orgoglio e dignità che i contradaioli del Bruco, nel giorno della annuale festa titolare della contrada, hanno indossato i loro eleganti vestiti nuovi, nel giro della città che rende omaggio alle altre 16 consorelle.
Il film documentario "Carezze sul velluto" ci racconta questa giornata, un giorno di festa, un giorno di bandiere e tamburi.
Ma non solo questo.
Rifare ex novo 100 monture richiede un progetto preciso e una gestazione lunga e non facile.
Una montura in velluto e damasco, realizzata secondo un disegno preciso, basato sulla minuziosa lettura dei costumi maschili quattrocenteschi dalle pitture del periodo, non è oggetto di facile realizzazione. E non lo è nella misura in cui non è un prodotto industriale ma di artigianato altamente specializzato.
Ed ecco allora la documentazione visiva del lavoro, raro e prezioso, di chi "crea sculture dalle stoffe", cintole e borsetti da strisce di pelle, morbide scarpe con un sapiente lavoro a catena e inedite calze di cotone, tessute e cucite come si faceva una volta.
L'intento, insomma, è stato quello di far capire e mostrare, come nel 2012, esista ancora un luogo ove la tradizione è così forte da permettere progetti di questo tipo e dove ancora si impiegano saperi specifici e ormai in declino come quegli artigianali. Il tutto condito con la passione e la bellezza delle immagini catturate dalla vita contradaiola.
Il resto, portato per mano dalle emozionanti note di una colonna sonora originale ed inedita, è vita vissuta, è suggestione ed eccitazione. E' la seta delle bandiere, impalpabile ma forte, che accarezza le strade di Siena, percorse da una striscia di velluto verde e giallo, in un giorno d'estate.

A "Contrada" that renews its costumes, the ones used only on special occasions, such as parading through the city streets, is a kind of catharsis; a purification as well as an accomplishment. Dressing up becomes a way to regenerate and mark ones identity and ones sense of belonging.
With immense pride and self-esteem, the members of the Noble Contrada of the Bruco (Caterpillar), on the day of their annual celebration, wore their elegant new outfits, parading them through the city while paying tribute to the sixteen other neighborhoods that collectively form the medieval city of Siena.
The documentary "Stroking Velvet" is an impromptu film shot on that occasion, a day of celebration, a day of flags waving and drums beating.
But not just that.
Remaking from scratch one hundred costumes requires a precise planning and a long and complex study.
A costume made out of velvet and damask, made following a specific plan, is based on the meticulous examination of the costumes men wore in the fifteenth-century. To design them accordingly, experts thoroughly analyzed scenes from paintings of that period, and that is certainly a complex task. We are talking about a final product that is entirely artisanal and created by highly specialized handicraft.
The documentation of the work, is a rare and valuable document dedicated to those that "create sculptures from fabrics", girdles, purses, boots and shoes created from leather strips, cotton tights woven and sewn together as done in the past.
In brief, the goal was to make viewers comprehend that in 2012, there is still a place where the tradition is so strong to allow projects of this type and show that trades, that in modern society are extinct, in Siena are still functional in the everyday world. All of this is topped with the passion and the beauty of the images captured in the daily Contrada life.
The documentary flows with the touching notes of an original soundtrack composed specifically for this occasion; it's real life, it's revelatory and elating. The protagonists are the yellow and green silk flags, subtle but powerful, that on a summer day gently stroke the ancient cobbled streets of Siena.
