I grew up in an Edmonton in the 80’s and I’ll always remember one hilight quote about a Dave Semenko fight. It was in the winter and Dutch adds: “and Semenko drops him like the mercury in Edmonton”
Met him over 20 years ago at high park while he was chewing on sunflower seeds watching his son play baseball.. Nice guy, down to earth. I’m sorry for his family.

You could tell by the way he was on tv that he was one of those larger than life characters. Dutchy was a huge part of my childhood routine; watching him on SC every morning before school, from about 4th grade all the way through high school. He had an iconic voice and an incredible way with words. RIP big guy.

I Hope TSN does a larger edit with snippets of everyone talking about him that used to work on the show. That would be fantastic to hear everyone’s thoughts on this legend of a guy
I used to watch Darren Dutchyshen on Sports Night on ITV/Global at 11pm in Edmonton back in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s and was the best show. Darren and Bryan Hall and their arguments/disagreements were the best also 😂 . Rest in peace!!

This guys voice and overall presence was a huge part of my childhood and high school years. Late night after the games were over I’d watch his segment, or early the next morning as I was getting ready for school. This one hit hard - and he’s not someone I’ve seen much of over the last 10 years as much, but when I saw his passing this morning. Man, wow. I feel that mourning feeling. That we lost a really really good one you know? One of the best to ever do it, and just a real one. RIP Dutchy
His wit, his humor, his larger than life personality. He stood head and shoulders above everyone. But as a Captain he made everyone feel welcomed, assisted when needed and made sure whatever broadcast he was apart of wasn't just a broadcast. He'll be missed.
In my early 20's I worked Security at the studios where there had (at the time) both TSN and Sportsnet on one lot. I remember walking through the hallways and seeing Dutch go back and forth and you could absolutely "feel" his aura as he walked by. The man bent the walls around him with his presence. You know how sometimes people say you can "feel someone enter a room" - yeah, he had that in droves, and you could tell that he was so respected and revered among his colleagues. You'd turn a corner and here comes this absolute tank of a man strolling towards you, so accomplished, so dignified - and you could just tell that he earned every bit of it from us as viewers, and doubly so from his peers/industry. Rest In Power Dutch. You were the heartbeat of that crew and everyone knew it. Condolences to his family.
