I remember the part with the nutcracker taking me a while as a kid. I'd never seen the device that breaks a nut off a bolt, but was aware of the kind that break walnuts. But I'd done a lot of mechanical work, so it being rusty made me think I was looking for something like wd40 or rust remover. Eventually just tried everything I had on it and got it.
