Deep Purple - Hush (Original Film Clip, 1968)

- Опубліковано 18 жов 2013
- A rare surreal film clip of early Deep Purple Mark I playing their 1968 top 5 (US) smash hit 'Hush', song written by Joe South. This bizarre mimed performance is believed to be from German TV, where the band were asked to act as prehistoric cave men!
"Hush" is one of the most valuable songs in history of rock in general.
ххэээээ
Definitely.❤❤❤
It's indeed a wonderful song. It spans quite a few genres. Deep Purple imprint this tune, especially with Jon Lord's keyboard. Billie Joe Royal interpreter this Joe South tune with South's original "twangy" guitar.
i agree man!
Can't argue. I bought this 45 new but no other Deep Purple recordings.
Great times, great music, great fashion, great haircuts and great sense of humour...
but the slips

Great hall...
The 60’s. Now I know why my dad is so silly
Peter- My favorite DeepPurple. Rock mixed with folk, not rock & metal. Listen to that ripping guitar, jamming organ, groove n beat, great singer. The 60's was on fire. My wife came over to see this video and mention that these guys look pretty good and healthy not like the kids for the last 25yrs. And I might add, don't sound as good.
RIP Jon Lord, God of the Hammond. Still a mind blowing jam over a half a century later!
He was a lovely guy and so talented. Now he’s gone perhaps my Dad will belt up about owing him money 🙄🤦🏻♀️
@@aderynmawr Who’s your old man?
@@a.tanner8524 oh he’s not famous! 😄
We ran a crummy club stupidly close to Reading Rock Festival (as it was then) and used to get them all in (presumably because they could drink in peace and not be pestered for autographs). “Professional layabouts” Dad called them.
I think he was surprised that none of them spat on the floor or set fire to the furniture and said they could stay if they behaved themselves. I tried later to explain to Dad that the group of men of whom he’d asked the question “Do you know anyone famous who’ll judge our fancy dress competition?” were in fact the best of the best. I illustrated my point in a way that I hoped he’d understand by telling him that two of them had written a concerto that was performed at the Albert Hall by the Philharmonic. He decided after a few visits that they were quiet, polite, spent a LOT of money and neither the dog, my mother or I were pregnant, so they must be ok.
Then Jon Lord let me down in a big way when he hired a boat from us, took it down to London having what must have been a fking amazing party on the way and then abandoned it.
So that was the end of that and Dad’s been banging on about it ever since 🤦🏻♀️🤣
That hammond. that base line. that guitar. man this was music at its finest
Rod Evans: lead vocals, Ritchie Blackmore: guitar, Nick Simper: bass guitar and backing vocals, Jon Lord: organ, keyboards, backing vocals, Ian Paice: drums
Then why did they rip it off the intro to this song from The Beatle's "A Day In The Life" ending?
And the drummer!
@@billlynn3196 they sound literally nothing alike. Like, nothing.
@@billlynn3196non penso proprio 😂😂😂
This awesome song is an absolute classic by Deep Purple. I love it. Brilliant work this song. And I love their classic from 1972 as well - "Smoke On The Water" as well.
Ian Paice was one f the best drummers of all times. Jon Lord R.I.P.
Yes true,, he was better than bonzo. Ian always used buddy rich single stroke and paradiddle diddle technics. Bonzo just has good sound , good tuning and have great sound engineer thats all but ian its the way he playing is awesome.
Paice still is
Ian is fast- machine gun fast. Noticed it on Space Trucking and other tracks. Think he is still with Deep Purple on their newest track with Ian Gillan and other familiar faces.
Love how each member smiles and tries to do weird stuff to make the video funny, while Blackmore be like - don't even film me, I'm out of this shit
I'm 13 years old & I get to hear this!!
No wonder I am so board with what I hear now..!!!
This never. Gets old
Deep Purple Mark 1 as they became known as. Ritchie on guitar, Paice on drums,Lord on organ, Nicky Simper on bass,Rod Evans on vocals. Good stuff. 😁🍺👍
Wow... listening to this brought a flood of memories rushimg back through my head 55 years later! Good times, grwat tunes, hot chicks, cool cars with bench seats (if I have to explain it, I've already lost ya), cruising burger joints, 8-track tapes, amps and good speakers, black lights, and driving slowly in small towns on a Friday or Saturday night, and parties. Oh, yeah, parties... "Hush!" Ha-ha-ha! Hendrix, Joplin, Three Dog Night, Chambers Brothers, Sly and the Family Stone, Sam and Dave, Steppenwolf, Cream, Iron Butterfly, and so many more great singers, songs, thumping beats and more.
the silliest video, but one of the most influential rock songs of all time. Deep Purple rules!
Rod Evans: lead vocals, Ritchie Blackmore: guitar, Nick Simper: bass guitar and backing vocals, Jon Lord: organ, keyboards, backing vocals, Ian Paice: drums
Jon Lord is really missing his hammond ! RIP you God of Hammond player.
🤗👍👍👍👏👏👏
The Madman of Hammond.
A fabulous hard rock song from the fall fall 68. Spent some time on the charts. I was 15. The B3 is out of this world!! The drum roll back into the verse was incredible!
боже, какие прелестные:расслабленные такие...!)эх,молодо-зелено!!
Thanks Joe South for this tune. Love.it.💜💙💙
I love Deep Purple music, since 1970. Blackmore, Lord, Gillan, Glover & Paice, the best DP formation, ever....
Gillan is not in this video, neither is Glover. This is Deep Purple's first lead singer, Rod Evans, and their first bass player, Nick Simper.
Right! Rod Evans y Nick Simper
At the time they had:
Jon Lord 27 years old
Ritchie Blackmore and Nick Simper 23 years old
Rod Evans 21 years old
Ian Paice 20 years old.
Spot On!!! I may have gotten into them from my Aunt's record collection, but that is the Mark I lineup of Deep Purple at it's finest. Inspired my Band and myself. Sad they don't acknowledge Rod Evans at all now. Cheers! !!

Ребята дуркуют от всей души. Браво!
Classic Rock!!! "Hush" One of the best song they done!!!
I remember when this tune would come on the radio everything around stopped and we stood and listened in awe! Nothing like it on the AM when it was a hit - mainly because of Jon Lord & His Hammond Rocketship to Space!
Thanks to Joe South👍
whener i listen to classic rock just cant help but grin and be happy about the fact that I moulded through my boyhood listening to the greatest music/musicians. Something about that raw power and energy.
+Vineet Ohol I feel the same, my brother. Peace!
Peace :-)
+Vineet Ohol Me too!
+Vineet Ohol Plus authentic and original. God I am so stuck in the 70s it's not funny. But I can't stomach most of the crap done these days..... Sad.
Yeah so true man
This song's got the greatest groove ever. Even to this day.
I did karaoke to it in Miami Beach last year. Brought down the house..
Watch over...my rocking style channel.
Sixth grade... back in the best music days.....we didn't want no stinkin outside recess. Our teacher said we could bring records and dance. We played this gem and others every damn, beautiful day! Ahhh...good times.
Hello Debbie, How are you doing?
Rod Evans is brilliant ; this footage made my day! cheers !
Questo filmato è stato fatto alla fine di ottobre del '68.
Wow, funny clip, especially the moments with Jon Lord!
ahahahha is epic ahahha
Keyboard Hero!
man.1968 one of my older brothers had just turned 14 going to CVS HIGH SCHOOL in Chicago. 4 bands debuted: YES, BLACK SABBATH,LED ZEPPELIN,&DEEP PURPLE!!! I was 5.Life hasnt been quite the same since. For good reason!!!
Those 3 bands you name. I think they are very much responsible for this change in music at the time to what they call hard Rock or acid Rock which became album-oriented Rock which them again classic rock that was which they were only playing in FM at the time mostly
Listening to this with my dad every week ends nights since years and it still hits hard
Rod Evans, excellent voice ! Pure natural, unforced. And of course, Nick Simper, the magician of bass. What a band ! The best Purple formula.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💜
@Ciprian IVAS Agreed.
I thought Ian Gillan was their singer from the beginning. Now I know.
@@fittrege2778 Gillan was another level entirely, love MK1 but.....
@@pinball1970 Gillan was a time traveler from the future where Metal music and screams were mainstream, he came to the 1970s to exploit the sound he knew would make it big later on.
With Rod Evans - what a vocalist
Fantastic.deep.purple song hush I was only four way back in 1968 and Richie Blackmore is a great guitarist and the great smoke on the water such a great guitar riff one of the best.riffs in rock of all times yes Richie was a moody guy and hard to get along with but he knew how to play the guitar up the irons!!!maiden manic🤘🤘🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🎸🎸🎵🎶🎶🎶
A cherished song from my teen years! awesome still to this day!
Rod Evans was great, and the true fans of Mark 1 Purple will always love his singing both with Purple and Captain Beyond. Very influential, as was John Lawton of Lucifer's Friend on rock singers.
captain beyond-sufficiently breathless
pete black .......still have SB on vinyl but I thought their debut album was far better, brilliant band!
Rod Evans! Fabulous singer..
@Robert Gibson I particularly like Rod's work in Deep Purple, who kicked the ever lovin' shit outta Captain Beyond.
vampyros1 .......I enjoyed both bands but Deep Purple had the benefit of airplay and were infinitely better-known. I think Captain Beyond was a phenomenal band (debut album in particular) but woefully under-appreciated. This was a fine cover of a composition by the immensely talented Joe South R.I.P.
@Linda Jones Really? To each his own... I just never thought Captain Beyond stacked up against the brilliant writing/playing of Deep Purple's first three incredibly groovy hard psychedelic albums, before they went heavy metal.
vampyros1 .........you might like to give this a listen if you don’t know it, great example of live CB imo, takes a little while to “warm up”. ua-cam.com/video/BY3BdT_gBJI/v-deo.html
Como siempre los Deep Purple dar lo mejor de sí y más al principio a los años 70 y estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo sí señor o señora muy muy muy de acuerdo
I work at a 50's/60's style diner at the Hard Rock and everytime this song and video plays I stop working for a few minutes to watch it. This song will really brighten my day if I'm having a hard time at work
Que clipe maravilhoso! Há quase 30 anos ouvindo e colecionando coisas do Purple e nunca o tinha visto!
One of the best concerts i get to see them twice in the 1970's still better than most music today
back in the 70s they were also noted for being the loudest band..i seen them in '75 and they lived up to that label..wow
My loudest show was definitely Ted Nugent!
I remember this tune from when I was 11. Mom used to bring home promotional 45's from the radio station she worked at. They read "Not for resale". This song and Ride My Seesaw by Moody Blues remind me so much of 1968.
Клип снят за год до моего рождения а я слушаю DP лет 40! Магия рока🤩🤩🤩
They have so much energy in live performance.
Amazing piece of Rock history. They look so youthful. Great tune
They're original sound with the percussive keyboard is way better! It'll never get old. One of their best songs indeed.
Wow, before anybody probably really thought about "music videos" as we've come to know them, there was this, what a classic! Back in '68-'69 I was keyboard player in a small band of high school guys. We turned out to be a bit more than your average bunch of "high schoolers" with a "garage band". For about a year & a half we rented a school gym & had our own dances. Local Coke distributor would come & set up a soda fountain, we paid for police & donated to the local Boy Scout troop to be "lookouts" for potential trouble. In the summer of '69, before our senior year, this very song won us a county wide "Battle of the Bands". Listening to this now I suddenly have renewed appreciation for how good our bass & guitar players were. Don't know how I managed to emulate that keyboard solo. As a bunch of "kids" we obviously didn't have a Hammond B-3 but did manage to find an actual portable Leslie speaker.
I'm semi retired now but another older fellow that I work with remembers coming to the dances as a younger teen & so does one of my friends who just celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary!
WOW what a magical story!!!!
Enjoyed reading that so much.
Thank you. Wish I'd been THERE.
Love stories like this…thank you. Played keys myself for more than 5 decades and still play most days ..Mourn the likes of Jon Lord , Keith Emerson…
💥👏
WOW...this video is GREAT. Hilarious! This had to be one of the 1st music videos ever & they goofed on the whole thing...love it! Making music videos was certainly not common in 1968. As a "Mark II" Purple fan, it's interesting to see footage of the elusive & talented Rod Evans. He really seemed like a comfortable front man & the star of this lineup. Boy did things change!
This should be the year to enter rock and roll hall of fame !!! Great band!
Unforgettable wonderful days when music flourished all over the world, and the most numerous flowers are from England.
They are all my friends. I enjoy listening to them.
This song is as relevant today, as it was......and I cant believe I am saying this, almost 50 years ago.

I wasn't there for this, but was stuck directly in front of the stack for the Machine Head tour, when they were known as the loudest band in the world. To this day, it's a wonder I can hear and don't have tinnitus!
Super!! GREAT!! Thank You!!!
This is so damn good and quite entertaining !!!!! This song got a lot airplay back in the day. Wished we could have seen the video before our parents saw it first.
Deep Purple, for me, is the best Rock band in the history of Rock music
Black Sabbath?
Yup.
Purple>Sabbath>Zeppelin
@Gabriel Chin Led Zep was a great band, highly innovative and original. Jimmy Page is a great guitarist, but Blackmore is the one and only true rock god. John Paul Jones was never as adept at the keyboard as Jon Lord, and Roger Glover is a better bassist. John Bonham, good drummer, but no Ian Paice. Singers? Pick 'em!
