@@clairekinney4133put a roof on it. Just a sturdy wire roof that wraps down around the cage for about half an inch. Make sure it can withstand your cats weight. That what we had to do when we brought our 3 cats in
I am so excited to say my first two guinea pigs have arrived home safely. Rosa and Lavi are adopted mother daughter duo from a local rescue they were in foster care. They are quite scared poor things so we are taking it slow. All thanks to your videos I have learnt so much! We are adopting 2 more girls in 3 weeks who will be 6 week old babies. I really wanted a herd of 4, watching your videos it seems like the perfect balance.
Agreed that hay ends up all over my house. It has a mind of its own! I store my hay in Small Pet Select hay boxes (that I used to get hay from). Now that my herd is up to 5, I buy bales locally and break them down into the boxes. My piggies are also in C&C cages with coroplast. My 3 boys (2 raised together with one young male born from my adult female) are in a 4x6, and the 2 girls (mommy/daughter) are in a 3x5. I find that my $3 throws work perfectly to line the cages. I wish I knew how to sew to create my own, especially with fabric on sale at my local department store! UGH! Love your channel, and love your piggies!
With 4 piggies, you need that robot vac for your sanity! I enjoyed seeing your sweet crew! I really love the set up you have. Our sweet GG (Good Guy) crossed over recently and now he’s in a better place. His voice is missed! So I quickly clicked to see your video! Happy to see everyone is well! That is a reasonable price for a robot vac compared to my aging Dyson. I would think about one myself, from Amazon. From Bucks County, Penn.
I had to laugh Sarah, the struggle is real---hay,lol! I find hay everywhere also, when I fill my hay rake and it seems like no matter how I try to fill at the bin, it seems to travel around the home. Having my Harriet and Clementine in my bedroom, limit my space. I recently reorganized and made a stand out of C&C grids. Another weakness, I love spoiling my piggies and so hard and I know I need to limit my fleece, tunnels, houses, etc. I have all my things underneath in bins, but I do realize I need to ask myself, do they really need it? So hard! Love my girls and wish I had more space and wish I could find tables like yours or like yours at IKEA,but it seems like they never have them or out of stock. My dream would have a home for my girls like you do for your herd!
Loved seeing Roxy in the beginning of the vid. She is absolutely precious and has such an expressive face, esp with the 'comments'. Such great ideas for keeping things clean and organized.
I have a 7x3 coroplast and grid setup for my boys, on top of a Twin XL bedframe($50 on amazon) , and has a 17 inch clearance underneath and perfectly fits 4 Sterlite bins. One bin is for clean piggie laundry, one is for dirty piggy laundry (the bin lid keeps the smell contained very well), the third bin is for hay, and the fourth bin is for extra toys, their pellets, other accessories. Theres even room in the back where I stored my christmas stuff and the ShopVac. It looks nice and tidy all set up and I really took time to plan out exactly how I wanted the cage to be to where everything would be organized underneath. I really should make a video about it because Ive never seen anyone else use a twin bedframe as a base for their cage
My husband was just joking me this am saying we should use an old bunk bed we have in cellar! I would only have GPs again if I could have a raised table and store everything underneath. It sounds like a fantastic set up for the piggies and organization for you!
Ooh, my boyfriend has one of those and it cleans up the turds and hay from his chinchilla 😊I think you’ll like it! Great advice overall! Thank you for the great video! 😊
I have a Roomba and I tell you it has been a game changer with piggies! It has got the hair, dust, and small hay pieces under control. I have it programed to run everyday at the same time. You are going to love it!!
This was a really good video! You are SO correct that the hay gets everywhere! I think it gets tracked around the house on our feet. It took me a while to figure out that what you call a "bin" is what we call a trash/garbage can. And "Hoovering" here is vacuuming. I am accumulating far too much "stuff" for the piggy, mostly food/treats she doesn't like.🙄 Our robotic vacuum like yours did NOT like picking up hay and got clogged, so I don't use it in piggy's room. Yours looks like a much better model. We put the poops, used hay and newspaper in our compost pile in the garden.
oh that raising them up one i had to because my knees and back have started giving out. heck steps are hard not just standing/squating but I also really miss my HUGE 6x6 floor cage it was one cage not 4 as I have now and so open plan and everyone was together but well I'm getting to old. As for the hay part of it I keep the hay in a large bin in the closet I do carry hay to the cages but I have the area in front of the cages sectioned off for floor time. Since they do not live there I can easily pick up blankets and such shake them out and then sweep the hardwood floor after play time. having this area means I can just move the floortime grids out of the way brush spilled hay into the floor time area and it doubles as a snack before the night clean were its just swept away. this is easier than the floor cage I had because this is thin fleece instead of fully sewn liners and I can clean it all up with less movement instead of chaing pigs around the floor with a hand broom on my knees
Hi Sarah yeah hay makes a right mess I don’t use fleece as my 2 boys just pee and poo every where they just don.t care they do have a litter box but still pee and poo any where when I out for floor time they on a hard floor where it’s easy to clean I do put pee pads down And beds and tunnels. For them but have to make sure I leave a gap behind they beds tunnels as one loves walking behind everything it makes me smile. Hope phoebe still owing well xx
Hi there I love the kitty litter area you make for your piggies with the plastic container. I was wondering, how do you actually go about cutting plastic? Would love to try this idea but not sure how to go about it 🤔 Thanks!
the robot vacum will work best if your hay is the super soft versions in the US at least some of our timothy hay is thicker and hard which wouldn't work well with something like a roomba but if you use orchard grass it might be good
I already have everything you have cage wise, just not raised up. I couldn't figure it out til now. My guineas are also SUPER MESSY lol 1 in particular named Marshmallow 😂 I have 4. I need help trying to figure out how to successfully integrate my 4. 2 of them used to live together (and bought together) but started fighting over space. So it led me to getting these type of setups. My main guinea named Buttercup is 3 then I have Marshmallow peach and daisy who are 1. Any suggestions for integration???? They all live next to each other and can be nose to nose
Sooo true!!!!! Thanks, hope Phoebe is feeling better, do you know anything I can use to get rid of fleas ( yes my piggies have fleas TOTAL NIGHTMARE ) and then KEEP THEM AWAY!!! Please 🙏😩💢
Thank you! Phoebe is doing good 🥳 Are you sure they are fleas? Fleas cannot breed on guinea pigs so will die out as long as other hosts (cats and dogs) are treated appropriately and they are removed from the environment - you'll have to do the standard keeping the whole house clean etc. to kill a flea infestation. Don't use anything that is for fleas on cats and dogs on your guinea pigs, it can be toxic. If you want to use something get an ivermectin treatment specially made for piggies, but your piggies will not be the cause of the problem - it's the fleas on other pets and in your house. Best of luck! ☺️
Thanks, but one, I don't have any pets in the house and two they've been there for about a month or so ( a month of constant combing) so I don't know what they are which is a problem ughhh is there anything I can do to find out?
Well the guinea pigs are in the house of course but I don't have any other pets but they could have picked it up in the garden when their out for a couple of hours it could have been a fox or something (don't worry I've got an actual run not just some grids)
Loving your videos as recently taken on a couple of rescue piggies after not having any for a few years and the hints and tips are brilliant 🥰. Just wondering, do you put all the waste, including the used newspaper, in your garden waste bin?
I clean our fleece liners every two days because I'm terrified of having my house smell like piggies 😭😭😭 I need to see what kind of fleece liners you're using because the two kinds I have, dirty very easy 😅
Do you have a video of guinea pig noises and what they mean? Since our rescues are starting to become more confident they're chatting away with all sorts of noises. I'd love to know what it means!
I'm definitely getting a hay bin !❤ I didn't know hay needed to breath 😅I get compacted bags of hay so I think a hay bin will be ideal for me. I already have a separate washing basket for the piggies fleece but I think a separate bin for their mess could also help me. Are guinea pig poos compostable?? Thanks for another amazing educational and practical video xx
I want to build a wooden home like yours, with plexiglass on the front and no top. But I'm getting so much negative feedback about airflow! But I've seen several videos where people have them. Advice? Help? Are people just being extra sensitive?
I struggle with the pillowcases as a cover in the wash, I tie them with a hairtie, but it often comes loose during the wash even if it was really tight. Any tips for using pillow covers in the wash without the inside getting out? Also the same with my special guinea pig washing bags with zipper- i also put an extra hairtie around it but still opens up.
Oh really, I use hair ties and they stay on fine, you must have a strong washing machine! Maybe you need some super strong hair bobbles, and don't tie them too near the end as well 😊
K i had to find your newest video to ask a question because I have two Guinea pigs and have a big question! They won’t eat much produce. I don’t know why! I know they need good extra vitamin c but they don’t eat veggies! They have had a little carrot and cucumber but how do I get them to eat produce?
hi squeaak dreams my two 3month old guinea pigs have scarched me when i was giving them lap time and i follow aall your steps but they’re still so aggressive well one is aggresive and is naughty please help~

I recommend you to do volunteer at a local animal shelter. By that you may show your genuine commitment for animal caring and even if it doesn’t work for your parents you get to connect with animals so gives you some satisfaction.
