    Excellent. Thank you for taking the time to break it down like this. One thing to add is a bit of historical context, which I don't think conflicts with anything being taught here. The six step is a great point of reference for teaching! But I think it is important to acknowledge that footwork comes out of sporadic steps, which were a direct response to the ferocious breaks of the record. I know my brother Focus knows this, but it was far less specific back in the days at the birthplace in the South Bronx. Some kids did six steps, some did 3, some did 5.333! The style of how you did your "shuffles" was your fingerprint. But no matter what steps you do, the form needs to look fresh at every single point (as explained in this vid), so if a camera were to snap a photo of you, you look good no matter which freeze frame it catches you at. Also, because this dance was born in tight cyphers, footwork rotates. The sixstep is usually taught straight on (like here) which you definitely need to be able to do, and that suits the competition world of one crew/breaker on one side directly across from the opposing crew/breaker on the other, but in the cypher you also need to rotate in on yourself all the time. That constant rotation changes your form and flow and also makes your steps look less predictable. Even a basic continuous sixstep looks more confusing in a dope way when it is rotating, because the rest of the cypher is constantly seeing your form from different angles. I am working on this right now! That is a part of the artform that competitions have kind of erased. Just sharing what knowledge I've been blessed with by the Philly, New York and London originators who made the effort to teach me. I hope this helps, and thanks for creating this channel. Peace! @Break Free Crew one of the last active dancers with lineage to that era is Wayne Blizz. Watching him is like getting a history lesson in the original sporadic style. Fable put together some clips of him awhile ago so check the youtubes. Also, there is a clip of original zulu kings that pops up in many documentaries that shows it. But hard to get a sense of all the different individual styles there were because that 70s era was before filming was so regular.

    After 20 years of 6 stepping 3 or so times a week I still learn things to improve it. That fingers back technique is amazing. I never heard of that. Thank you.

    The only thing I would add is that the weight when you go up to your palms should be on a sweet spot between the index and middle fingers. Lots of beginners go too low. Anyway one love, Focus

    • @BBoyBGirlDojoOfficial
      @BBoyBGirlDojoOfficial  5 років тому +2

      Good point! But this one is genetics, different based on everyone's wrist structure :D. I have the weight more between the middle finger and the ring finger, and I like it cause it's right in the middle and spreads evenly. But different for everyone based on how the wrists turn naturally. -F

      B-Boy & B-Girl Dojo yup i have the weight between my middle and pinky finger bc my middle knuckle is a lot bigger than the others, so it’s different for everyone

    Does a six step has to be "6 steps" when doing variations?

    • @nareshkumarmajji8697
      @nareshkumarmajji8697 4 роки тому

      Doesn't have to be unless you want to it's freestyle and your variation so you can play around wid it as long as you have a perfectly mastered the original 6 step

    Palms up seem dangerous for your thumb. Leaves it quite vulnerable.

    • @godonehiphop
      @godonehiphop Рік тому

      Yeah I never understood the palm up, seems unnatural to me right now but the range of motion thing made sense and if I only use my own force to reach my hand backward I'm pretty much in the position of the palm up

      But people do handstand and one handed in perfect balance handstand and they are on their palm at the 90degree angle
