Just installed our mirror! Reading a few of these reviews, we also encountered the same experiences, but despite those experiences, we are happy with our newly self-installed mirror. Pros: - J Bar : We decided to install our mirror tall-wise, which required us to cut our j-bar with a hacksaw, then smooth out with a dremel tool. Also, someone mentioned that the holes in the J Bar are too small... however, the material is thin, and the hole are more of a “guide” rather than actual holes. The screw will go right through just fine. - Rubber Strip: the strip was not included so I just use a spare piece of fabric. Cons - the dry wall screws that are included work for the J Bar, but the head on the screws are too big for the mirror clip caps to screw on properly. We ended up using our own dry wall screws that had smaller heads that allowed clearance for the caps. - no rubber strip - Unboxing: the unboxing is messy. but not a deal breaker. As a consumer, I appreciate the product being packed tightly for safe shipping. Overall: Very pleased, but also understanding that some level of experience and comfort is required to make this a fun and rewarding process. I recommend that for self-installation, you are already comfortable with drilling and installing [dry wall] screws. We made this a two-person job as well. If you are not comfortable, hire a handy-person! For the price of the product and self-installation, its a good deal.
It looks like the screws aren't countersunk into the J Bar for a flush surface, do the screw heads prevent the mirror from sitting flat against the wall? Also wouldn't it increase the chance of the mirror flexing and breaking when you're cleaning it?
Thank you! We got a mirror for our basement gym and that goofy hardware didn't come with instructions and I had never seen it before and wasn't quite sure how it worked. This video shows that clearly.
Just got our mirror but didn't realize glue was needed! We don't want to do that to our wall. I don't have exact measurements but 38"x50" is close. What to do?????
I purchased 2 of these mirrors at 48x60 and am very disappointed I have to cut my Jbar for it to fit. Customer service was not very helpful and the unboxing experience included hours of breaking wooden palettes down. Hopefully, I'll be happier once they are set up.
Mine was missing the rubber strips. And, WHY are the holes in the j-bar a) way too small for the provided screws, and b) alternating holes are slotted rather than round, which, if you use those of course, could shift and throw the bar off level. Hmmm...also, the unpacking of the box and manouvering the mirror are WAY more complicated (the box) and difficult (the mirror) than this easy breezy video wants to have you believe. So...off to Lowes to buy my own rubber stripping...
More: this is awful. Neither the video nor the manual describe how to get the mirror from horizontal (laying on floor) to vertical as shown in the video. So of course, with four people trying to lift it gently off of floor to standing, it BENDS and thus, pretty sure it's broken (backing side is up). Simply awful. Waste of money.
